Great review. Thanks for sharing the Ford/Mazda partnership info. I like the new Mazda and would buy one immediately because of the driving dynamics but i REALLY wish it had a moon roof for the rear. What other CUV/SUV's has great driving dynamics like the Mazda?

@RicochetPuno: no sadly not. Though for Australia were I live it is said to come with sky active in 2014. If your a person who needs the diesel version, like me for example because of my boat, you'll have to wait.

This is the only reviewer that describes the CX 9 as having vague on center feel. The Cx9 has the most road feel of the 3 row cross over bunch. You always know what the wheels are doing. plus the Cx9 starts at $30,000 not $34,0000 unless that's in Canadian dollars.

The point is that the tailgate needs to be unlocked first, either with the key fob or the door switch. This is not a true proximity sensor system like other cars.

I don't understand. Do you do your reviews in BC or Ontario? Most of the cars you review have Ontario plates, but this one is BC??

I have seen many reviews but this is the first one I saw someone moving the second row seat forward with the seat belt on. What's the point? Should the kids move to the third row seats while the car is in movement?

My father have a 2009 cx-9 and I think there's little black botton under the back Mazda logo(right side of the door handle) push it once to unlock rear tail gate ...so you dont have to find your key in your pocket and press it like that....

Well done review that hits all the major points. We have a 2013 loaded touring AWD. This our first Mazda, we have been very impressed with it overall. You are right on point about the lift gate function! But I got used to it and appreciate the power operation. I agree the Bluetooth connectivity and streaming audio is first rate, unlike my wife's MB GLK which is dismal and won't even read her phone contacts. I wish I could have optioned back to the 18 inch wheels. The 20's look nice but the ride is firmer than I want in my middle aged-ness and they will be expensive to replace. Only none routine maintenance was a warranty replacement of the Bluetooth module. The dealer customer care is excellent. Got it back washed with a tank top off for my having to leave it overnight. Otherwise, it has been the typically reliable top notch Japanese made vehicle. A lot is also made of the Ford DNA and motor. Only the lower end is Ford. The upper end and tuning is all Mazda and the engines are quality controlled and final assembled in Japan. Fuel mileage is spot on with what my Acura MDX owning neighbor reports so I think it is average for the class. Subjectively the wife thought it was the best looking in its class and I thought it was the best driving. Some reviewers mention the hard plastics on the dash, really how often do you fondle your dashboard? Very plush where it matters being the seat, the center console armrest and the door armrest. With a hefty dealer discount, a factory rebate and zero % loan, we have a near luxury vehicle for an ordinary price. I think if a shopper looks past brand snob appeal to actual substance the CX9 offers high value vs cost. The wife's Benz was much more expensive and lacks a third row, navigation, sunroof, and even rudimentary infotainment ability. Finally, can we keep the subject on the vehicles? It certainly isn't worth high blood pressure to argue over who's pronunciation of "Mazda" is correct. Especially since variety is the spice of life and Canada and Canadians are our neighbors and among our best friends-allies.

That was exactly my response when I was looking for a new SUV - price point - price point! Luckily I am not in marketing but this would be a much more interesting vehicle if they could bring the bottom down to 29,500 and top out around 41k

I find it funny how the say Mazda in the USA, and they also want everybody else to say it the same as they do, curiosly in Mexico where we speak spanish we say Mazda very similar to how you say it in Canada (phonetically Canadians call Mazda as it is read in Spanish)

don't buy a cx9 my 2011 has been in shop for over 2 weeks for power steering pump problems and still no sign of a repair (REALY MAZDA ) local dealer in Sault Ontario Canada isn't the what I would call helpful, and if you are wondering they all have same pumps from 2007-2014 and from the forums I'm not the first with this defect, maybe a letter to NHTSA would expedite matters. The cx9 does drive nice but there warranty if needed is sketchy.

@@Motormouth... Coincidentally, I am. I've heard plenty of Americans say it that way too. It's just funny to me that people will willfully mispronounce a proper name. Especially the Australians I've seen in the comments who will jump all over you if you say Melbourne wrong. Or, the British who constantly berate Americans for their use of the language and then call their car a Jag-yoo-are. It's a very Americanesque thing to do to just take a name and blatantly mispronounce it and say someone else is wrong for saying it the correct way.
