Known for reliability not passion, the 10th generation Toyota Corolla was past its prime. New York Tines contributor Tom Voelk and his neighbor Dick check out the new 2014 model to find out if it's back in fighting form.

I don't understand why auto reviewers always downplay reliability. The Corolla is a great car, and playing down the middle is exactly why it does so well; it appeals to nearly everyone.
@stephenhendricks679010 жыл бұрын
Or it doesn't appeal greatly to anyone. No offense meant. Obviously, the Corolla is a huge sales success. But a design devoted to avoiding offense to anyone makes for a very boring vehicle.
@NeutralGenericUser10 жыл бұрын
Stephen Hendricks Corolla detractors often use subjectivity in their negative remarks, and you're no exception. What is boring to you, is not necessarily boring to others. I find the Toyota's styling to be better than many of its rivals, and possibly the best in the segment. The interior is also very elegant.
@kokopuffs578910 жыл бұрын
They don't downplay reliability, the reason is kind of left out is because in the past 10 years many other car companies have improved their reliabiliy. The Hyundais/Kias of today are a lot more reliable than their late 90's models. The new Fords are also more reliable too, same goes for chevy's, Chrysler's and Nissan's. I don't know if they will be more reliable than a corolla, but most of us cant be sure if this corolla will be as reliable as before, especially after the recent wave of recalls from Toyota/Honda.

Dude said "emotional" to describe a car! I bought my 2014 Corolla LE because it gets great gas mileage, it's reliable, inexpensive, etc, not because of an emotional attachment to it.

Just bought one in December after getting rid of my old 1996 Saturn SL 2 which got a grand in trade. This trim has the most bang for the buck, includes a back up camera which should be standard in all new cars. Didn't get navigation, because of updating maps, or a moonroof. After almost two months still no problems, unlike some US cars including Saturns.

Toyota has a good thing going. They have developed a customer base that keeps coming back, even though most of the competition has surpassed Toyota in almost every way. It's like Apple.
@joeb25889 жыл бұрын
This car sells by the thousands over the competition. Look it up. Not to mention, the only car he mentioned that would be close in reliability would be the Civic. You know the dodge or Chevy aren't as reliable.

What other brands are as reliable my corolla has almost 100,000 miles all I replaced was tires

The front seats don't go back far enough, which is really bad for the knees of someone over 6ft. I also think the dash is very bulky, and doesn't match well with the plain exterior. I drive a 98, and I enjoy it.
@BTC90910 жыл бұрын
Front seats are tight, back seat is great. Looks far better inside and out.

ya the competition offers much more than the corolla. people who buy the new corolla are either did not show properly or are just plan loyal to the corolla family.
@76carmel10 жыл бұрын
Corolla is considered "old reliable". Those who purchase the Corolla just wants basic, reliable transportation; essentially a typical Toyota Corolla customer. Nothing really wrong with that.

Is 17 inch rims all wheel disc navigation heated seats power seats moonroof auto climate controll ..... Is that basic commuting. What makes this basic transport vs others in the segment
@ext3reme9 жыл бұрын
Every single reviewer criticizes the rear drum brakes.. If they only knew that the front disks do 80% of the braking.... I get it that the public think the rear disks make it stop way way way faster. Car manufacturers love that, the only job the disks have is to rust and the pads to start squealing so that they could sell more spare parts. If that's more of a car status thing then you could just accept that it's a economy car and the drums are there to save you money...
@joeb25889 жыл бұрын
I don't know why people look at what I call foolish characteristics. Like 0-60, or rear drum brakes. How about, how many years of trouble free driving you'll get.
@DrivenCarReviews9 жыл бұрын
joe b It's my job to be objective and take everyone's interests into consideration. You may consider 0-60 foolish, but the buyer who merges in aggressive LA traffic finds that information vital. While ext3reme thinks disks in the back are status and money grabbing, I see being able to stop even 1 foot shorter a chance to avoid an accident. It's pretty tough to quantify "yeas of trouble free driving". Statistically, the quality gap of today's modern vehicles has narrowed, all are much more reliable. My wife's Kia has been completely issue-free for over three years. I owned a Ford Focus for 9 years and only put brakes, tires, gas, and oil into it (plus a heater relay that cost $14 dollars). My 7 year old Volvo just got its 100,000 check-up that cost $97, one of its most expensive services to date. And I know a people that own "dependable brand" vehicles that have had serous issues. I'm a big advocate of buying what you love. That's the car you'll take care of better and keep longer. Ultimately that's the best value and most fulfilling.

you can get a base gti for this price or better yet a loaded 2015 golf which can get gti speeds with a quick ecu tune. you'd be a lot happier in a VW golf/gti then this plastic on wheels cheap feeling car.
@inc5510 жыл бұрын
***** VW.com base 2015 golf starts at $17,995. Corolla LE starts at $19,100. The turbo charged golf is the clear winner. A simple tune and you will be in GTI territory.
@inc5510 жыл бұрын
***** Look, I drive a mark 6 gti fully loaded (even the base has quality) and I see the level of quality of these cars compared to that of a corolla or even a camry and there isn't a comparison. Toyota's feel very cheap and utilize lots of plastic. I'm just telling people that instead of buying this LE they should look into a base gti or base golf. They would be a lot happier with the golf. At least they have an option to pay $600 for an ECU tune to make their golf a lot faster. Yes, the toyota will last a lot longer but you'd have a lot more fun in a hot hatch.

Saw the interior - cost cutting galore...Jetta with its "all hard plastic" dash, still finds a way to appear like a step up. Toyota Corolla has no class, a Jetta has a little.

The 10th generation Corolla was released in late 2006 in many parts of the world. It came to the US in early 2008 as a 2009 model. In addition to those tires, I'm going to guess you changed the oil once or twice too. It's quite common for cars to go 100,000 miles with basic maintenance these days.

говн...kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4nZdZmuZrurkLM Выбор есть думайте Господа .это марка у меня была любимая, по этому так сильно и ненавижу,от любви до не навести один шаг .kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3-rlZKwnNmIf5o

im sorry...car manufacturers still make rear drum brakes??? lol i have '12 mazda3 manual with 155hp and gets better mpg 28/40. Times have changed people. Please do your research when buying a car.
@jacky958410 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong I love the mazda 3 as well but I have to say that if you did enough research, you should also know that there's a LE ECO edition (costs only $400 more than the LE on the base model, mentioned in the video) and it gets 30/42 mpg.
@verynick10 жыл бұрын
***** HAHAHA thanks Mr. Wong for commenting but if you do enough ENOUGH reserch, you would discover that first, Corolla's 140hp vs Mazda3's 155hp while only losing 2 mpg is a no brainer. Corolla uses CVT vs conventional 2 dual clutch auto. Corolla isn't a top safety pick by IIHS compare to Mazda, Focux, Civic, and even Elantra. Electronic Steering isn't as direct as Mazda3. Corolla's ride is comfy but very vanilla. More expensive than Mazda even with Base model. Biggest factor, 2012 Mazda3 vs Corolla 2014, we are comparing cars that are 2 years apart. Don't even get me started with 2014 Mazda3. Thanks for the comment though!
@jacky958410 жыл бұрын
lol i was just saying about the LE eco that's all, of course i know all the numbers i'm also a mazda 3 fan here, don't get me wrong

The Corola is pure snooze. It doesn't even say thrifty. It just says "I have no personality so please don't look at me." There are cars that are just as reliable that are fun to drive and to look at. I think Tom said all that. But I thought of it first...I betcha.
