Back in '94 I built a 90 Mustang with VR4 boosted to 14lbs and a little nos for upper gears. Running 11.7 at 124mph. Street legal car - daily driven for 8 years before selling. To see what Camaro, Vette, Charger and Challenger have done today should not be taken lightly. I now own a Challenger. Never thought my 11.7 124mph car would be rendered to just 'okay' for power when compared to todays offerings. Love it.

Patrick Connolly not brake horsepower lol. You're lucky to get 600 on the GT500. Luckily Mopar never overrates like Ford.
@Chuckers8410 жыл бұрын
SaintsRow1224 Every manufacturer rates hp at the crank "bhp" GT500 makes 662 bhp. (600+ whp) depending on the dyno you use. No manufacturer rates through driveline because wheel dynos differ in power projections. Your comment is useless.
@hartsickdisciple10 жыл бұрын
SaintsRow1224 "Brake" horsepower means power at the crank, before drivetrain loss. A 2 second google search would have told you that. A GT500 makes over 662hp at the crank, meaning "brake" horsepower. It makes roughly 600 at the wheels. Since all manufacturers rate their cars at the crank (brake horsepower), Dodge is also referring to their Hellcat making over 600 horsepower at the crank. All of that in a car weighing over 4200lbs. I will give Dodge credit for the Neon SRT-4. That car was underrated, and made almost 230hp at the wheels, which was the factory rating. That's not par for the course though.
@hartsickdisciple10 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure Ford isn't too concerned. They have a 3850lb car from their outgoing generation that makes over 660hp and 630 lb/ft of torque.

The gt500 and camaro z28/zl1 are still going to Fuck this thing up. They can put as much horsepower as they want into a challenger and it will still get shit on on a track. And the gt500 will probably beat it on a strip since it's a more balanced chassis.
@CorruptedGov9 жыл бұрын

This thing is going to be a BEAST! Oh... for those GT500 fans (I consider myself partly one as well), the TOP SPEED of this Challenge is supposed to be 234MPH! Of course, the GT500 engine is so efficient that it Doesn't get hit with a Gas Guzzler Tax!
@hartsickdisciple10 жыл бұрын
234mph? LMFAO... This car won't top 190. You're on crack. Where do you get this stuff?
@gardnrobe10 жыл бұрын
Chrysler tested the vehicle which did 202 mph. Actual speed will probably be about 200 mph.hartsickdisciple
@hartsickdisciple10 жыл бұрын
gardnrobe It would take a hell of a lot of power and aero to push this brick to 200mph. It's going to weigh over 4300lbs, and we all know that the Challenger isn't the most aerodynamic thing on the road. The GT500 has a hard enough time touching 200, and we know it puts down 590-610 hp at the wheels, while weighing 3850 lbs. Also, not a very aerodynamic car.
@hartsickdisciple10 жыл бұрын
gardnrobe The street version of the Superbird with the 426 wouldn't come remotely close to 200mph. Although that car was lighter than the current Challengers, and did have a TON of Aero built into the bodywork.

I have talked to Alex (great person and very helpful) from Chrysler World Headquarters and recommend this motor comes as a limited production srt Ram. I am currently on my 2nd 2014 Ram Black Express because the first one leaked at the 3rd brake light in the first storm we had. Needless to say I didn't want a Chrysler/Dodge product at all but I talked myself into giving them another try since the dealership wasn't wanting to buy me out of my loan. So I settled for another Ram. Same year just more options and I got screwed on the 5k I already had into the other 2014. Chrysler assisted in buying a remote start and Mopar Cold air intake but I was still at a major loss. I'm hoping if this motor comes available in a Ram that I personally get contacted to see if I wanna preorder one.

it looks so cool... with an aftermarket suspension setup this will be a absolute beast on the track! thank god its not turbocharged... supercharger is he way to go and you still get a manual gearbox... german engineers take note!
@murdergorilla408710 жыл бұрын
Turbos are way better. More potential power out of them in the future if desired, they are more efficient, also when peak boost hits........ its alot funner than a linear power producing super charger.
@Dmxravin10 жыл бұрын
yes but linear power delivery is very important on the track you dont want to hit full boost during a corner and spin out... a turbocharged engine will drink fuel like a hole at high rpm... yeah the sudden power surge is nice but meh.... driving on a track is more fun then just going a bit fast in a straight line... plus you have to run a very expensive setup just to counter turbolag...
@MrKdr50010 жыл бұрын
2014 Lemans 1st & 2nd cars are turbo'ed...how often are race cars in low enough revs to suffer "turbo lag" most modern turbo's don't suffer from lag as the run higher compression than they used to aswell as running a recirculating system. A V8 would have enough torque that any lag there may be would hardly be noticeable.

I would say no. SRT used to be a branch of Dodge a year or so back. The new viper is not part of that branch because the SRT branch does not exist anymore, it may be a play on words or something but the new viper would outperform this Hellcat by a lot.

MoparTech
@MoparTech42610 жыл бұрын
256UZI4YOU Yeah, the Viper would most definitely stomp the Challenger... But although the Hellcat Challenger is heavy, I've visited Dodge's website, and watched plenty of videos. It is very surprisingly nimble and quick. It handles like a car that weighs half a ton less. I know that the only power rating that we have to go by from Dodge is "600+", but I firmly believe for good reason that the Hellcat will be putting almost 700 horsepower to the street. I also have seen evidence that all of those ponies are usable, because you can floor this thing, and it'll just skip across any curve on the road. The new Hellcat is a serious contender, and I do believe that Ford and Chevy had better watch out...

The GT500 needs to work on their interior for that price. The GT500 comes from ford, goes to shelby. The hellcat doesn't go to any aftermarket source. Anyway, the hellcat and GT500 are very nice cars!! Muscle cars rule!
@TeHBawNeY10 жыл бұрын
Cool but the current SRT weighs 4150 pounds, Now their adding a SC, larger brakes, heavier tranny, and supporting components with no mention of weight savings. Its legit probably going to weigh about 4,400 pounds. That means it will need to make AT LEAST 640 HP to out drag a ZL1 and about 740 (LOL) to be at the GT500's door. Its probably going to be real expensive too. Considering how much this will cost they should have went all out and went hard on the weight savings. If they could get it down to 4000 even or even a bit below this would be killer.
@TheCompyshop10 жыл бұрын
Mopar Onine lol no. A pulley will not get you up in the 900hp range. You don't know how boost works. About 14psi of boost is equivalent to roughly 100hp in gains. And superchargers don't handle boost that well. I doubt you will be able to get anymore than another 3-5psi out of this supercharger.
