Where does a plug-in S-Class fit? A new F-150 inspires change in pickup crash tests. And we demystify an oxymoron: dry sump lubrication.

Good Job Mercedes. We already know they have the A and B Class Electrics, the SLS Electric, and their Smart Electric cars, which I believe Tesla makes the motors for all of those, but now they're adding Hybrids, which more people buy over pure electrics. This is a very nice car, and has the luxury and tech background to where they should be adding hybrid and electric versions to all of their cars, like what Toyota is kinda doing.

What I'd really like to see is an all electric S Class. This seems more like a ploy to sell an S Class in California. Calling this a '550'e really?! Maybe an S350e.
@swunt108 жыл бұрын
D Jaquith lol no. nobody would want a e-s class. you can't drive an e car with80-120 mph over any sort of distance. driving 60 behind trucks in the slow lane is not exactly s class typical and people who shell out 100k+ don't want that just like they don't want to sit in a truck stop waiting for their car to charge every 2 hours.
@DJaquithFL8 жыл бұрын
swunt10 Huh?! Look into Tesla and then tell me what you posted isn't nonsense. I've owned S Class cars since 1994. However, I'm seriously considering a Tesla. The Tesla cars have a 280~300 mile range, can be recharged fully in 20 minutes, 0-60 in 2.8 s, top speed software limited to 130~140 MPH, full auto drive is about switched on. And the P90D is not some cheapo car at $118K. No the Tesla is pretty damn good!
@swunt108 жыл бұрын
D Jaquith lol. nope. you can't fully recharge a tesla in 20 minutes and not even tesla say that. also 20 minutes would be a ridiculous long wait compared to not even having to stop/refuel in a hybrid or petrol car. certainly people who can afford s class mercs don't sit around truck stops for any amount of time if they don't have to. you don't get anywhere near 200 miles in range if you go over 70 like I said. full auto drive is not available just like in any other car. but unlike the tesla other cars like the c-class are full of driver aides. even the p90d is still cheap looking and cheap in quality. that they ask for so much money is ridiculous. you can't just make a car more expensive to get into a higher league. the tesla is quality and design wise on the same level as the japanese cars (unfortunately not in technology, price or engineering). people who even consider the s class and tesla as equal choices must either be brain dead or americans (with all their culture and sense for good taste). btw the tesla trolls and their internet spamming (or guerrilla marketing are just as hateful and stupid as the Kremlin trolls out there.
@DJaquithFL8 жыл бұрын
swunt10 Okay Troll! Last year the Supercharger was 40-45 for a full charge, but unlike your ability to research it's 2015 and the time is down to about 20 minutes. LMAO you trying to to me what Mercedes owners do and don't do with their time. Often I go to our dealerships free Saturday car wash simply to shoot the sh!t over a cup of coffee. All of the data I posted above is factual information from either Tesla but mostly from articles where the Tesla was tested and evaluated by third parties. Moreover, I'm living in the USA and Tesla is a USA company, so bravo to the USA! :-)
@swunt108 жыл бұрын
D Jaquith "a network of “supercharging” stations-designed exclusively for its Model S and future electric vehicles-that could charge a battery halfway in 30 minutes. In May, it announced an upgrade that cut that time to 20 minutes." so half way. there you go. "but unlike your ability to research it's 2015" did that sentence make sense in your head? so you are brain dead and american. good to know. that explains everything. you are excused. bravo USA

wow blind spot tech, what a surprise. If you would just check your blind spot you wouldn't need it in the first place!
@Lucky8s8 жыл бұрын
Eric Pettersen Depending on the car, a blind spot could be huge, and that's where blind spot tech comes in handy. It's a problem and I'm glad they have tech for it. If it's something that could prevent an accident, why not support it?
@maybach65368 жыл бұрын
It's not that I don't support it. It's just only necessary in certain cars. Dodge Challanger, Alfa 4C, vehicles with large blind spots as you said earlier, but if a car doesn't really have a blind spot in the first place (like in most commonly bought cars) it's not really needed in my opinion.
@Lucky8s8 жыл бұрын
Eric Pettersen It's more of a selling feature, even if the car doesn't have large blind spots. Ford is a good example of this. Their cars come with all sorts of new technology (blind spot, automatic parking etc.) and that influences the decision of many consumers.
@4lc4418 жыл бұрын
Eric Pettersen It's more convenient to just glance over at your mirror than it is to turn all the way to look regardless.

WHO WOULD WANT THE MERCEDES S550E? LIMO COMPANIES!!! I lease W222 S-class for clients and these hybrids are PERFECT for Manhattan traffic which is a bumper-to-bumper waste of fuel. You can't "legally" exceed 30 MPH in the city or 55 on the highways. These cars are PERFECT for ferrying clients. The regular S550 uses far more gasoline - wasting it. The 550e will save us far more on lease. I would RATHER be able to lease a TESLA MODEL S for the same purpose and go 100% electric - probably lease 6 of them...but they ARE NOT BIG ENOUGH. Rear legspace isn't good enough for clients. BMW 7 2016 and Mercedes S-class were my picks.

Thanks to the government this hybrid S class is one of the dumbest cars I've ever seen. A complicated, heavy, unwieldy car no one wants to buy and that Mercedes doesn't want to make. Why are we letting the government decide what kind of cars we can buy?
