The new 3ds' cpu is actually a quad core arm11 based cpu that is clocked at 804 megahertz. It also has more l2 cache than the original 3ds' cpu which in turn makes it way more powerful. The new 3ds also has twice as much ram as the original

The n3ds is the way to go if ur Modding it, then it allows you to play 3ds game at 833mhz (instead 233) so no shuttering in Pokémon.

From the short time I was able to use the original sized New 3DS, one of the biggest differences between it and the New 3DS LL is definitely the build quality. While the LL has always been very sturdily built, the OG New 3DS feels quite a bit cheaper strangely. Regardless, the form factor of the New 3DS as opposed to the LL feels just right and I would love to find one for myself. Too bad the price of the limited quantities of the Happy Home Designer New 3DS has gone up as significantly as it has lately.

They both have their Pros and Cons, the New 3ds is *"much prettier"* than the Old 3ds, but the Old 3ds looks more professional! In the end, the New 3ds will be much superior, even more superior to the New 3ds XL because of the Screen being exactly proportioned to support the resolution of 400x240. With both the 3ds XL and New 3ds XL, due to the larger LCD Screen, the image quality decreases, and it looks *LESS* sharper than on the regular New 3ds or Old 3ds. Personally, unless you're interested in playing Xenoblade Chronicles, Fire Emblem Fates/Awakening, or Hyrule Warriors Legends at a *-stable frame rate-* then keeping your Old 3ds would be a wise spending choice because really there is not much of big difference in performance other than the New 3ds running a Quad-Core Processor while the Old 3ds is running a Dual-Core, and the amount of New 3ds games that have been released, it's not really worth the upgrade and the spending of *ANOTHER* $200. But if you do not own a 3ds, and you're willing to buy one, then definitely the New 3ds not the XL, is the way to go!

Marton Gabriel Yeah, the Aqua Blue was literally my all time favorite color from the different colors on the 3DS. But Honestly..... I still do enjoy the old Top Screen 3DS look over the new one. The one thing I don't like about the new 3ds is it's circle pad I noticed when I use my new 3ds that my thumb slips off real easily while the older 3ds my thumb stays on it and it's a bit bigger on the original 3ds. And when u play the new 3ds in the dark it can't track ur head so it spazes out while the old one doesn't if your playing in 3d other than that the new 3ds is pretty good but I like to use my original 3ds for 3d gaming In the dark and playing 3ds games

Weird because it's made out of higher quality materials, sounds like you're basing that off of bias, the Matte type material protects against those massive lines that on the older one will naturally form simply by closing the hinge

Paintamaster2000 I would say you should get a new one. A lot of new mario/zelda/polemon games for 3ds will only work with the new power the new 3ds has. tl;dr It would be a good investment to get a new one.

Lemmy No. All 3ds games will work on every 3ds and 2ds. Stop spreading lies, they might run a better on the new 3ds, but their won't be any games that require it.

I already got the New 3DS with Pokemon Sun and I actually do have an older model and tested both. The result was that the game will run fine on the older version of the 3DS but has some FPS lag during battles

Very amazing review, you went into really in-depth detail which is something i look for in reviews. I received a 3ds for my birthday awhile back, and it really annoyed me with its outdated features and slow processing. I'm preparing to purchase a new 3ds XL soon, and i have a feeling it will be outstanding compared to its previous counterpart.

Since this has the ZL and ZR buttons, i would it expect it to have Wii Virtual console, considering you can play wii games with the Classic Controller attatchment, which has the same buttons.

So I have a 3ds XL and even if it's not as good as a NEW 3ds I still like it. I don't care about the loading times and the gameplay is also the same except for games like Monster Hunter and Hyrule Warriors. The 3DS XL also has loading lags, but I find them quite normal and totally undisturbed. Otherwise, the gameplay should actually remain the same with e.g. Mario and Luigi Games, Paper Mario, Smash, Mario 3D Land and and and. At least I didn't notice any difference in the games in terms of frame rate. If something else is the case, you can tell me.

The c stick was also available as an add on for the original 3ds which explains their availability in earlier games.

Blazenoise 358 I got a big phone as well. However, I also own the original 3DS which is too small. I replaced it with a New 3DS Super Mario Black Edition on black friday. Much better.

I like my phone smaller because I bring it with me everywhere, but when it comes to handheld game consoles, the bigger the better. The new 3ds being bigger is definitely an improvement.

I bought the old 3DS model not realizing there was a New 3DS. Was hoping to play Super Metroid with, but apparently it's impossible for a 2011 console to play a game from 1994, but it has the power to play 2017 Samus Returns. Thanks Nintendo.
