@ Mike Ludes. Thanks for posting this. I've had my 2013 C2 for a little over a year now and the car is a manual with Sport Chrono Package. I generally drive around in Sport mode (for the noticeable difference in the interior exhaust note) and occasionally Sport Plus mode but have always had mixed results with the rev-matched downshifts -but didn't know/couldn't figure out why. I was beginning to believe that my car just wanted to do rev-matched downshifts when it felt like it. After seeing your video here with the Boxster, I now know why I haven't been getting the rev-matched downshifts every time. I need to be first and foremost in Sport Plus mode and depressing ONLY the clutch pedal while downshifting to get the desired result. This was undoubtedly helpful! Can't wait to get out try this on some dry pavement soon! We've had bad winter weather off and on here in Dallas, Texas for the past week and a half. Cheers.

Great video man, I learned a lot about this Sport Chrono. I did't realize the manual had all those features. That shifting is sport plus with out lifting the gas made you look like a pro, and the auto stop start relives a lot of stress if you stall.

@XtremeMontage taught myself to drive a stick when I was 14 and home alone unsupervised for weekends. That was wayyyy back in the 80s. I used to have dreams of Ferrari and Lamborghini but, as an adult...you have so many other things that come first. You'll get there, keep plugging away. Took me 52 years to get a used porsche. But my wife and I will both have a daily driver and our fun cars. She's got 21 wrangler and 18 jaguar f-type 380 awd convertible, and I've got a 24 nissan frontier (pulls our boat) and next sat, 14 boxster. All paid for....only thing left is pay off the mortgage. I have a Porsche Boxster S (981) from 2013 with maual transmission and Sport Chrono Package and sport exhaust but I do not get any rev matching whatsoever? Do you know if the rev matching is only available in the Cayman? Do I need an updated software for the engine? Without the rev matching, I have no clue what the chrono is good for?

Chrono as a factory option is a major upgrade. Way more than just Sport Plus/faster throttle response. Chrono should always do rev-matching if you have manual, you are in Sport Plus mode, and you use only the clutch pedal during shifts. If you engage the throttle at all during the shift, you will override the automated rev-matching.Benefits of Sport Chrono, from my training program (launch of 981 generation):• Engine characteristics and chassis modified to improve performance • New component: dynamic transmission mounts • Greater distinction between comfort and performance • Active transmission mounts for optimal adjustment of the rigidity and damping of the engine’s and the transmission's connection to the body

Hi Mike, thanks for getting back to me. Since I simply did not get automatic rev-matching (no matter what I tried), I talked to a local Porsche dealership and they had a look at this issue. Eventually, they told me that rev-matching for manual transmission with the Sport Chrono Package is ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE CAYMAN, not in the Boxster. I was quite disappointed to learn that but apparantly, the feature you describe is not available in the Boxster.

Correct, we get partial leather and Alcantara interior, with Alcantara lower dash. The option is to add the full Leather & Alcantara package, which adds a leather dash top, window sills, door panels, center tunnel, etc...

CHOPERUS23 In a manual you're supposed to manually rev the engine to the rpm that the engine would sit in at that gear with the same speed. IE: @ 100kmph you are at 2krpm at 6th gear and 3.5krpm at 4th gear. So switching from 6th to 4th you need yo rev the engine to 3.5krpm otherwise any higher, the car will jerk and any lower then you would slow below 100kmph. This system revs the engine for you before the clutch is fully released which would save you the trouble of doing it yourself.

That's right. Automatic rev-matching is only in Sport Plus mode. There's three ways to do your own rev-matching:1) regular mode, no buttons selected2) Sport mode, just drive!3) Sport Plus mode, with PSM DEactivated (turning off stability control will return all control to the driver, including rev-matching).

actually it's just the clutch. But you'll probably be on the brake when you're on the clutch anyway.

I'm almost positive that the rev-matching feature is active all of the time while you're in "Sport Plus" mode. You can't turn it off unless you use either the "Sport" or "Normal" mode.

Jeff is correct. When you select "Sport Plus" it is always on. With either "regular" or "Sport" selected, rev-matching is deactivated. For a manual trans car, to me this is really the main reason to get Sport Chrono, and the only reason to use Sport Plus. With a PDK (auto dual-clutch) it's a whole different story. If this were my daily driver, I would usually alternate between Regular and Sport modes anyway, rather than Sport Plus (Plus is a bit punchy, hard to control the throttle unless you are going for 100%).

Kinda... some dealers will offer Sport Plus as a dealer-installed accessory. It only adds the Sport Plus button and the relevant programming, but does not include the other Chrono options like the dash stopwatch, and the dynamic transmission mounts. Here's some great details from my technical training literature (981 series):Engine - Sport Chrono Package / Functionality • SPORT PLUS button on center console. • It affects throttle characteristics including PSM, PASM, PDCC, sports exhaust system, and PDLS (if equipped with these features); also activates motorsport-derived gearshift strategy (for PDK). • Additionally, the SPORT PLUS button activates the PDK Race Track shift strategy. • Dynamic transmission mounts to reduce transfer of vibration and improve stability. • Analog and digital stopwatch on top of dashboard. • Performance-oriented shift assist display (manual transmission) • Launch Control (for PDK). • Additional steering wheel display (for PDK) for display of SPORT and SPORT PLUS mode as well as Launch Control activation.Drivetrain - Dynamic Transmission Mounts • Included in the Sport Chrono Package these mounts change their rigidity and damping characteristics according to the current driving situation by using a damper fluid with magneto-rheological characteristics and an electrically generated magnetic field. • The field increases or decreases the magnetization of the fluid particles, changing the viscosity of the fluid and making the transmission mounts harder or softer. • When steering into a corner the delayed power impulse produced by the mass moment of inertia of the engine is significantly reduced and any “after-pressure” on the rear is minimized with hard transmission mounts. • The dynamic transmission mounts combine these advantages and at the same time reduce vertical engine vibration during acceleration at full throttle. The result is a more uniform and higher propulsion force on the rear axle with better traction and acceleration. • The system is automatically regulated by the PASM control unit with a response time of just a few milliseconds when switching between soft and hard transmission mounts. • Information processed includes steering angle, lateral, longitudinal and vertical acceleration, and the fluid pressure in each transmission mount. • The control strategy is also influenced by the pre-setting of the sport functions. • SPORT or SPORT PLUS buttons pre-set damping for sporty driving. • SPORT PLUS pre-sets a very high damping of the transmission mounts, suitable for a race track.
