2015 scion tC sunroof button only works sometimes, lets fix it!

A bad solder joint was causing the sunroof to only work intermittently. heating up the joint and a little fresh solder and it works like new again.
I tried and tried to capture it not working on camera, but the little bit I did get was all I could get. Its like when you swear somethings broken but when you try to show someone it works perfectly every time....

Hey brotha! You're video is very informative and very useful for a longterm solution done properly. However I just discovered a quick solution. If there's just contact not being met put a piece of tape or something on inside of the dome light casing after removing the circuit board. For us non professionals with no saudering tool, tape gets the job done!

Hey, so I did exactly what you did in this video and was able to confirm continuity between the contacts on the board, however it still isn't working. I noticed it works until it gets hot outside. Then when I click the open button, it makes a click sound but doesn't open.

What I have discovered is that depending on the weather/time of day the sunroof has no issue opening. Almost every evening/night the sunroof has no problem opening at all. During the day (especially on a hot day when I need it most) it refuses to open. I tried what you did in this video 3 separate times but didn’t seem to work. I’m guessing the motor overheats in the sun and doesn’t want to open until it cools down

Great info on the lights and sunroof here. On a side note, the aftermaket airfilter is a really good mod on TC's since the oem air intake is positioned a lil low in the driverside fender and runs the risk of hydrolocking when driving in wet conditions. The relocated airfilter/intake helps prevent catastrophe.

The problem is in those clicks bottom inside. I had the same problem. You have to add like an robber spacers because the open close plastic switch is plastic and with the time it get worn out. I had that problem before and I fixed.b

@@rickethyo yep just finished at auto zone today actually. glad rhats over. blew the fuse under the hood. but i upgraded to the red map lights so thatll be nice in the morning instead of the blinding but dull whit light

Mine wouldn’t work on my ‘13, but one day I was like lemme just rev this shit and see if it goes and it did, tried it again another time and it didn’t. Things weird man

I replaced the whole part (brand new) and still having the issue.

I haven't had an issue since I resoldered the connections with mine. It's possible the new part you installed is also bad, or that your issue is in another area. I would recommend (if you're comfortable) re soldering the old board if you still have it and swap it out to see if it solves your issue before going any further.

Ricky Buchanan thanks for the reply. I’ll have to continue to troubleshoot. It worked just fine after replacing the part. But days later I attempted it and it didn’t work. It’s a hit or miss everyday. Is that what yours did?

You could always replace the board. I didn't price one out but another commenter said they replaced it from dealer. I'd recommend trying to solder it! The solder points are huge, and easy to get to. You can pick up a cheap, decent soldering iron about anywhere. Watch a few tutorials and go to town. If you ruin the board, we'll it's gotta be replaced anyhow. (probably should purchase it first, just to be safe)
