2015 Superbike 1000cc Shootout | Testing 7 hottest Supersport Bikes

Europe's biggest motorcycle magazine "Motorrad" went to the Eurospeedway Lausitz to determine the Queen of 1000cc bikes. Nils and Kuki joined in and took command of the filming. Ex-racers and pro-riders from Sweden, Spain and Germany took the bikes to their limits.

Why did you not include the R1M in this test, as I assume the price of that bike would be not too far off the RSV4, as compared to the standard R1. +James Marshall The M has very little that makes it faster on a track. Not in the hands of mere mortals, at least. People think it has a different power output and the like but no, it's slightly heavier overall and the active suspension is only likely to improve things because it's a better quality suspension, not because of the active features. Take a look at Fast Bikes for a comparison review that I trust. North American magazines are too, shall we say, coin-operated.

+James Marshall you are right the price tag is similar for r1 and rsv4 rr, R1M has same price as rsv4 RF, the rsv4 RF is 23.9k, the R1M is 25.9k. the regular R1 is 20.9k and the regular rsv4 is 20k. So the yamahas are actually a little bit more expensive. if you are going to spend about 25000 on a bike just test ride them and pick the one that puts a smile inside the helmet

this video is really fair, and i totally agree with the lap times. Only three problems: 1: The bikes on this review were the best from each manufacturer, except the R1. They tested the base R1, which is sort of a disadvantage because there's a flagship to it, the R1M. I feel this is unfair because apart from the R1, everything else was flagship(RSV4 has a base RR, Ducati has a 1299 R, the Fireblade SP has a base Fireblade), but the R1 wasn't flagship. If it were here however, it'd have less laptime and far higher on that list. On all other reviews, its managed to constantly beat all the rest, but here, its left out. 2: Grading the bikes by averaging the laps times, makes little sense. It seems to grade the riders too rather than grading the bikes alone. Personally, i feel that if this review is about grading bikes only, only the fastest laptimes ought to be considered, regardless of the rider. A faster laptime only means that the bike was more capable, and we know what happens when a bike's limits exceed the rider's limits; what we get is rather less than what the bike is capable of. The riders here are clearly gradable, you can see who's better and who's not, but in my honest opinion, if this is about grading the bikes, then only the fastest laps ought to be considered. Best illustration of my point would be the Fireblade ending up a step lower than the Kawasaki, despite having a faster laptime by the fastest rider. The other riders failing to do the same only means the Fireblade needs more skill to fully make the most out of it, more than the Kawasaki, but the fact that it does does not mean its lesser. 3: All these bikes have their different aspects, but here i assumed you use three riders because some will be better at tapping the potential more than the other. But a bike suffers for not being able to be easily untapped. Especially in a game where there's bikes that can do full clutchless shifts both up and down, then there are bikes that have all sorts of electronics for the track, then there are those that seem almost fully analog, no clutchless shifts whatsoever(no quickshifter). In as much as reviews give alot of information about the bikes and advise on what the rider ought to get, they fail to address what these bikes can do if everything was fair, and the playing ground was fully leveled, like what they do in MotoGP. I doubt the Fireblade would be where it is. I'd say the same for the BMW.

+Dave Njoroge I was about to write similar thing but you beat me to it. I'm not sure what they use R1 which comes with KYB suspension rather than R1M. Kinda of agree with fair sample. they should have tried all bikes without electronics interference, just to see how is the base mechanical quality are. Somethings tells me the CBR and GSXR would do better.

Vignes K that would have been best. Testing the bikes while all electronics are shut off, because they're a big advantage. If that was made possible, definately the Fireblade would be ahead. I don't know why Honda sells it without electronics, but the few track Fireblades that have electronics are pretty badass. The GSX-R as well.

+Dave Njoroge I really don't think this is true. The RSV4 and R1 at least would be reasonable to ride without electronics. The BMW definitely needs them with its midrange as would the Panigale; they can be a handful even with the electronics at times.

Great video! My 08 CBR 1000RR was stolen last week. It will most likely never be found so there’s a really good chance that I’m going to be put in a position to get a new bike. As of right now I could only afford a used bike in the 2015 range so this will help a lot when I start looking at for sale ads.

AWESOME camera work. I have no idea no one has commented on it, but it is so smooth and gives such a good view of what the rider is seeing or would be seeing while riding rather than static-mounted camera views from mounted cameras. Did you use a gyro for certain shots? I am almost certain you did some editing a la "Sherlock Holmes"/Gavin Free. :)

Congrats on great comparison test although R1M would be better choice and a street side review would be a welcome plus as most of riders do street riding most of the time ;) Don`t know what`s up with the Honda... putting all the magic in RC213v-s or what??? Just by my profile pic you can see my fav bike. One question for 1000PS: was the aprilia rev limited? on the straight just 10k rpm, where in some other tests lead by professional riders it reaches 14-15k. Maybe without the restriction you could have a even faster bike. Ps: I live just 30km near Noale, headquarters of Aprilia's manifacture :)

+luca bonato The stock ECU and pipe limit the engine somewhat, and it doesn't make more power over about 13,200 or so. With a full system and race ECU it pulls to about 13,800 and makes (seriously) about 20whp more. You drop a lot of weight off the bike, too.
