I love that you are using a SxS. Everyone nowadays has an O/U. So nice to see it done the traditional way !

Any particular reason not to shoot the woodcock? Superb video!

Thank you Andre. Just personal preference. I generally shoot at least one woodcock each season. But as a lot of them have had a long migration to get to the UK, and there are not that many in the region that I shoot, I thought I would leave them alone. I also asked the guns on the shoots that I help run if they would do the same, unless it would be a really good shot. (But most woodcock I see are not really a too challenging shot, despite their reputation for being so.) In the future if there are more about, I will probably go back to shooting a challenging one each season. Thanks.

My opinion is similar. I am from Portugal, here we have a good wintering contingent of woodcock, but even so I think hunting them only becomes intense with a gun dog like a pointer, setter or similar. Shooting a woodcock in a standing position is not very challenging but many here do not think the same way...

Nice shooting and good looking farmland. Any chance of a few Agri videos also fair play on putting together the Easter European videos must have taken a bit work.

Thanks Paddy. I have been busy filming all of the stages of the game cover establishment the last few weeks. Have just got a couple of herbicide applications left to apply/film, then I will edit it all together. There is always a lot going on in the way of work on the land, it is just making time to film it whilst also getting the work done as quickly as possible.

Where abouts in Suffolk is this, I lived near by to Leiston in 1988-90, with a family of shooters.., I would love to pay a visit and have a days shoot.., I have a walk up shoot here in Wales, Woodcock in abundance and likewise we have a "no shoot at Woodcock" every other season.. Great videos you have... do you use a "Gopro4 Black"...?

Hi Glyn. Glad you are enjoying the videos. I haven't shot a Woodcock for a few years now, as despite their reputation they rarely look too challenging to shoot and I like to see them about (Especially as we don't see big numbers in this area of the country). No, I still use a Gopro Hero 3 Black Edition. I keep reading bad reviews of the newer Gopros, so I have stuck with the Hero 3 for now. Thanks.

why are you shooting low birds
@SuffolkFarmLife7 жыл бұрын
As this is a very small shoot with lower numbers of wild birds. A lot of the birds don't fly too high (especially when standing on the end of the gun line, they often pass by low and wide). So you have to alter expectations compared to a bigger driven day where you can be far more selective and only shoot at higher birds. (Similar to comparing a walked up day to a high bird day.)
