Good video, but, there should have been a light coat of brake grease inside the slider plates, the those tabs should probably have been reformed slightly as those pads should move easily towards and away from the rotor or you will have premature pad wear and possible hot spots on the rotor. At 5:58 the top slider plate you can see the bend in the top plate. When you put the spring clips back you can see they didn't budge the pads, that's their job, to move the pads away from the rotor. Teflon plumbing tape works great as a thread lock, and it doesn't glue your screws or bolts.

I'm about to do my brakes tomorrow (assuming parts arrive on time!) but it will be my first attempt and I plan on using your video as reference so I'd like to thank you for the straightforward and easy instructions. If I may ask a question, assuming you still check these comments, what sort of grease do you use on the slide pins? And do you use the same stuff on the piston/bracket?
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 Жыл бұрын
It's a different grease. On the piston n bracket you can use "caliper " grease, on the slide pins you can used die electric grease. If you use anything else it'll cause future problems with the slide pins .

@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 4 жыл бұрын
If its difficult to go in you're better off replacing the caliper... It'll cause all kinds of problems. Happened to me a few days ago. Used a caliper that i had a hard time forcing the piston in. It held constant pressure on the rotor.the wheel wouldn't spin freely and the pads were smoking after a short drive almost catching on fire! Just replace the caliper
@bobbarker3248
@bobbarker3248 5 жыл бұрын
You don't need to remove the cap on the master cylinder when compressing the caliper's piston. Also, I would suggest removing that bottom fastener so you don't need to pry on the caliper's piston. Prying on the caliper's piston only on one side can damage it. Notice how the tool you used later to compress the piston applies an even pressure on the piston.
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 5 жыл бұрын
Of couse it doesnt have to be removed. 95% of brake jobs i dont i dont remove the cap. The problem is if i didnt include it in the video the people point it out... Apparently if i do do it people still point it out 😂. I agree with not pushing the piston at an angle but its just a very small amount. As long at the correct tool is used to compress the piston itll be fine. Thanks for watching

Alot of mistakes : First off new pads on old rotors such a waste of time ( not even machining ) or replacement. Don't expect brakes to last long.Nouse, pulsation,uneven wear. Next you put new pad retaining clips non with out cleaning,sing of poor workmanship. Next not properly removing bot caliper pin bolts leads to seizing. I would like to try and take rotor off next brake job.That will be fun and from all beating and banging next time that harms the wheel bearing. Lastly no lubricant,antiseize or disc quite on back sides of pads . . . .
