I was happy to see you use cruise control on the way down. People have been saying that is what they do when going down steep descents. It is nice to see how well it actually works. One big reason to buy a diesel...exhaust brake.

I always thought you guys should use the cruise control for the downhill. I use it on I 70 every time I head down to Dillon. The truck does great using the grade shifting, but you have to drop the cruise control about 5mph under the posted limit. If you do that no need to him the brakes.

Crazy how low gm rates their trucks. 12,000lbs. Most people tow 40' tow haulers that weight a lot more empty and still have zero problems

Unknown Trucker You’re calling him a dumbass, but don’t understand the fact that he’s actually 100lb over his 10k GVWR. It’s a 2500, dude- you’ll exceed payload before hitting max towing and/or combined weight rating. Gotcha.

I love the Brand loyalist who dish other brands. Can't appreciate a nice truck. This is a nice truck, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Pretty easy. Or just go to your Brands channel and watch them do the ike gauntlet for your truck. Oh wait, they don't have one. Guess you'll just have to suffer threw this brutal video or this pitiful truck that most of you only dream of having.

Like some have said on here,it would be odd for a 2500 to only be rated 12 something. I think the Cummings titan is rated for that much. On a side note I do think its a good looking truck. I tend to like the body syleing of Dodge but I believe I would be happy to own that Chevy.I got an 01 Dodge ram and after I got it we found out that my wife can't get up in it without alot of help. Her knee buckled from arthritis when she tried. I think it has a slight lift.I like the Truck but their is that draw back to think of.I have been told that chevy is lower to the ground and would be easier for her to get in and out of.So I have found myself looking at chevys more.

Love the video! But I have a request for you guys. You do the Ike gauntlet with the trucks at, or vary close to there max. And this is a great test! But most of us that actually own these trucks, rarely, if ever, max them out. I'm a good example of this. I own a 2015 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Z71 Crew cab. I bought this truck because I did not like the way my last 1500 handled my loaded trailer. I tow a 18' car trailer with my Jeep on it on the weekends. Loaded it comes in right about 6,500lb. Almost exactly half the trucks rated 13k bumper pull. This is actually vary common as many of the guys in my 4WD club have 2500s, and most pull under 8k primarily. I would love to see some testing of these trucks at half the rated tow capacity!!! I know I could have bought a 1500. And many people do when towing 7k or less. But my last 1500 (A 2007 5.3l 4x4 chevy) did not handle this load as well as I would have liked. And after pulling it with a 2016 Silverado 1500 double cab 4x4 5.3L truck while my truck was in the shop, I can say that I made the right call moving to a 2500. Yes it got it down the road. Yes it was safe. But you could tell the truck was close to its limits, and the trailer had more control over the truck then I like. (Purposing, and movement in the truck caused by the trailer.) I had tried a weigh distribution hitch with my last truck. And it helped a lot, but the 2500 without a weight distribution hitch controls the trailer better then my 1500 did with one. I really want to see some testing with the trucks loaded more like the average owner actually loads them. Remember, for every guy out there towing a goose neck maxing his truck out, there is a guy that dose not even tow with his. And there is a guy like me that keeps it around half its max. You guys do a great job! Keep it up!!!!

Okay, I'm learning diesel engines and towing... So I was at a Chevy site and it states "2015 Chevy 2500HD 6.6 turbo diesel was rated 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque on tap. That lets you tow up to 13,000 pounds with a traditional hitch, and tow up to 17,900 pounds with a fifth wheel hitch". So the difference in what a Gooseneck and hinge plating tow for this truck in 5,900 lbs. That's a big difference to be based on how it's connected to the truck. If I'm not understanding this correctly, someone help me out.

+Dan Eldreth Yes. I agree. Dan's numbers look correct to me. The payload of this truck is over 3000# also. I'll bet the king pin load rating is over 3500#. But for all the expense of these diesels I say bring back the 8.1 with an active fuel management system and 10 speed auto. I can replace an 8.1 for about the same as most pay for their first injector job so longevity of a diesel is moot. My son has made a good living off replacing Duramax injectors. As far as I know all brands of trucks require the cab to be removed from chassis for most common diesel engine repairs.
@daneldreth6764
@daneldreth6764 8 жыл бұрын
+WSMC Mc I've owned 3 different Duramax trucks (1 LB7 and 2 LML's). I've never had to replace a single injector in the million + miles including the nearly 300,000 miles I put on my LB7 which was notorious for injector failure. Regardless of size, a gas engine won't pull as well as a diesel. There'll be constant shifting and will guzzle gas with the slightest of loads. My Dmax really doesn't care about what weight is behind it. The only thing that really effects my MPG's is sore resistance. -My 18' (12,500 GVW) equipment trailer with nothing on it (17.5 mpg) -Put a side by side or a skid steer on it and it goes to 14mpg -8.5'x24' (10k gvw) enclosed (v-nose and slant roof) 12.7mpg regardless of what's in it or empty.

The trailer weighed 12700lbs. The truck weighed 10100lbs. The gross combined weight was 22800lbs. But the vehicle max is 12900lbs and 10000lbs making maximum gross combined allowed 22900lbs. Is that right? You could have put 100lbs on the rear of the trailer before being absolutely maxed? Great video but I wish the stats were a little more clear. Thanks for the video.

Although, Ram trucks look so good, and the interior is so nice, and it had the best engine ever fittes ti any if the trucks. But the GM has the best tranny. Ford had, well shit idk

what could this bumper pull? this was basically the same weight as the titan, but I am new to 5th wheel towing. I know the tongue weight effects GVW differently between towing methods.

I dont know where these guys get their specs. Bumper pull on this truck is 13k and 5th wheel is 17-18 depending on the configuration
@bahamatodd
@bahamatodd 8 жыл бұрын
For this configuration, bumper is actually rated higher at 13,900 lbs (compared to 12,900 lbs with the gooseneck). Chevy's reasoning is that the gooseneck requires a higher tongue weight which is limited by the payload capacity.

@bahamatodd

The loaded crew cab 4WD only has about 2500 lbs payload capacity. GM recommends 15-25% tongue weight with a gooseneck. The minimum 15% of 12,900 is 1935, plus the SAE required two passengers at 150 lbs each and 100 lbs of tow equipment already puts you at 2335 lbs. On the bumper only 10-15% tongue weight is required so the trailer can be heavier. I have a question about the gross vehicle weight. So the Chevy/GMC 2500 with a gooseneck trailer can only haul something as heavy as one car? I want to buy a Duramax Diesel 2500 next year and start a side business hauling.

You're not at the max. Maybe for a bumper pull trailer but definitely not a gooseneck. Who does your research for you? An eco boost f150 is rated for that much.
@allenrust7359
@allenrust7359 8 жыл бұрын
Who does your research? 2016 2500HD Crew Cab Long Box 4x4 Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 3.73 Max Payload 2,423 Max Conventional towing 14,500 Max fifth wheel/ gooseneck towing 12,900 And they say the are at their maximum gross combined weight rating. The problem is that the truck is so heavy. The regular cab 2wd 2500HD gets 14,500 conventional and 18,000 fifth wheel/gooseneck. The difference is the added weight of the crew cab, 4x4, diesel engine, etc. www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/Chevrolet/northamerica/usa/nscwebsite/en/Home/Help%20Center/Download%20a%20Brochure/02_PDFs/MY16%20Silverado%20HD%20eBrochure.pdf And an ecoboost may be rated that high, but again, for the stripped down base model regular cab 2wd. The crew cab 4x4 will be much lower.
