So the Ram 3500HD is rated to tow 8K more then the Chevy but at a lighter 21.4K load test the Chevy is faster up the hill and brakes less going down the hill. Sounds like the Ram is over rated.

I live on a ranch. Bought a 2500 Ram diesel. 3.42 rear axle ratio 6.7 cummings. Brand new for 44k. Chevys were about 1-2k higher for base models. I'm not a loyalist but i'm totally happy with it. Everyone talking about how the Chevy did so well compared to the others, yes it did well but , these are runs that are not done under controlled conditions. There is traffic to consider and a speed limit to abide too. If you noticed, Ken said how smooth a run it was with no traffic issues. Another thing is the weather and density of the air on any given day which affects how optimum the engine runs.

+L Rizo Facepalm smh!!! Are you kidding. Send your 440 hp 865 tq truck over. Do you really think anyone really cares about this test? The real reason Ford won't bring a truck over is they were caught cheating during a test. They put. F450 up against a Ram and then a F350 as the F350 was coming up on the Ram being driven by the Ford guy the TFL guy caught him backing off to let the F350 fly by. The Ram had just found shifted and was about to pull away from the f350. Watch the f450 vs ram 3500.

Great video guys! I dug into exact comparisons between GM, Ford and Ram. Interestingly they are all within 1200lbs max gooseneck/5th wheel combos. Fords comparable model to the GM you just tested has a max of 23,500, same axles, dually and 4x4. This truck you just tested maxes out at 23,200lbs. The Ram is only at 25,500lbs for a comparable truck. (all this info is right off of each manufacturers website, all with 3.73 gears, diesel, and their most HD transmission). I thought it was interesting in the ford vs ram mashup about a year ago Ford put the ram up against a 450...I mean, why not just put a a ford Super duty diesel up against a Gm or Ram gas half ton and get the same result? The point Id like to share is that I think it's interesting Ram and Ford claim to have FAR higher payload/towing capacities than they actually are. Right when you go to Ram's website they claim "Ram 3500HD Hauls and tows Up To 39,000lbs" WTF no way...That's a decent heavy load even for a big rig! It seems like consumers are led to believe, "Hey If I get a ram or ford i'll be able to pull 30k all day no problem". When In reality, there is no way I would consistently pull over 25k with any of the big 3 if I wanted them to last. The numbers game between them on who's got the bigger capacities is getting a bit out of hand. I think GM takes the win overall as they are very up front with their max towing capabilities to their customers. All in all, the new HD trucks are pretty phenomenal for what they're capable of. However, I think its pretty crazy to consistently** pull much more than 25k with a 3500/350 pickup truck. I'm actually pleasantly surprised the Dmax beat the ram by 10 seconds. I thought ram would take the win by 30 seconds or so. Looks like GM puts the power to the ground better than the Ram. Where's the Ford F350? Oh...wait...Ford didn't give you guys one to test this year. :) Lol. Thanks again for making great videos reviewing and scoring all these trucks TFL.

Torque doesn't mean anything. Horsepower determines performance and there is only 12hp difference between them. With all the variables in the environment, and only 10 seconds separating them, they had almost identical performance.
@Nordic_Mechanic8 жыл бұрын
+brett johnson area under the curve is more important than max number. obviously, the duramax has better torque figures outside of that max quoted number. Yes it's not as powerfull, but it's more evenly powerfull over a wide curve and thus wins in overall performance. Isuzu always maximized it's design for a broad powerband even in their cars back then. Same principle used when they designed the first duramax

135 less lb-ft yet 10sec faster up the hill than the dodge. Also better exhaust and trans braking, and 5k cheaper. We need something better than hp and torque at single points to rate vehicules. You can't say ten seconds is any slower. Many factors could've contributed to that like traffic, conditions, and the driver. Statistically speaking 10 seconds isn't really a difference. This isn't a half mile drag race buddy. It's an 8 mile towing test. The only thing the Chevy really had over the Ram was the downhill part. Other than the Ram was better in every way. More luxurious interior, better mileage, more features, and better capability.
@seanjanssen70718 жыл бұрын
Exactly, ten seconds is within the margin of error so they both are pretty much even going up, but the Chevy out performs the ram going downhill, just because on paper the ram has a higher towing capacity, does not mean that it is way more capable, in this real world comparison, the Chevy beat the ram.
@HighSpeedFudd7628 жыл бұрын
+Sean Janssen If I remember correctly Kent didn't have to be full throttle near as much in the ram as the Chevy. That's why this test isn't scientific by any means. If they had access to a private open track or course that mimicked the Ike guant and they didn't have to comply with a speed limit the Ram would've run a better time.

Whats better ram or chevy
@dankruger28908 жыл бұрын
heres my view, give me a engine that has been tested with years on the road and I will buy it. Every time ram or ford beefs up there trucks with horse power and torque, they leave me thinking about problems that are unseen and untested. I am proud that chevy stuck with a proven engine and is still within seconds of there competitors going up the ike gauntlet that have changed there engines torque and horse power in the last two years. I simply don't trust diesel engines that aren't proven.

GM needs to shit or get off the pot and play ball with Ram. I like them both but they need to compete more. I know Kent is a professional driver, but that 55 gallon barrel in the back of the Denali kinda scares me strapped in the center of the bed, especially going up that grade. Things can work loose going down the road.

i think gm going to be bringing in 1k ft lbs for their hd diesels...as its in tune with their redesign.
@gamebredduramax25778 жыл бұрын
duramax is the best diesel truck out there rite now! everyone talks about rams 800lb ft tq,and fords 400+ hp powerstroke,those are just paper #s that dont mean jack,they both lose more hp tq through there weak drivelines then what they have over the duramax on paper,the allison transmission simply tranfers more power to the wheels then the other guys,and the exhaust brake is the best out of all of them,and as far as the towe capacity,all of the 350 duallys were severely under rated for what they are capable of,dodge is just the 1st to put it on paper,gm guy told me they put the lower capacity on there to be able to sell to everyone,over a certain weight ur suposed to have a showfers driver license atleast,on up with air brakes and such.
@The02CumminsRAM8 жыл бұрын
The Rams torque is actually 900lb ft tq, which makes it look even worse. Also the Rams exhaust break should've performed a lot better, TFL messed up in my opinion by putting it in full mode, which is not as good as automatic mode that holds the speed no matter what.
@gamebredduramax25778 жыл бұрын
The02CumminsRAM tru there 900 now,but back win powerstroke,and cummins upped the power levels over the 390hp 765 tq of the dmax,everyone watched the dmax still beat the competition up an offroad grade towing contest,full throttle from dead stop to the top,called king of the hill,all the trucks pulled the same trailer same wieght and drag race to the top,dmax was underpowerd then and still won the race.

I have a 2016 high country 3500 and I think its funny how the dodge has "more" torque and rated more to tow but the Chevy whooped its ass up and down hill numbers dont mean anything all bout real world tests😂😂

+Gavin Steiling way more power but was 10 sec Slower up the hill? Yea shows it don't matter how much power it has if it doesn't use it right.

+Gavin Steiling You need to learn about engines buddy.
@HighSpeedFudd7628 жыл бұрын
+arbiter1 you can't say ten seconds is any slower. Many factors could've contributed to that like traffic, conditions, and the driver. Statistically speaking 10 seconds isn't really a difference. This isn't a half mile drag race buddy. It's an 8 mile towing test.
@seanjanssen70718 жыл бұрын
Ten seconds is within the margin of error, but this goes to show that paper numbers don't mean everything and the duramax and Alison trans out preformed the ram
@christianrosas31888 жыл бұрын
+TeenageReloader7.62 Not to defend Ram either, but to add to what you are saying; the Ram had more weight with Nathan (250+300), 4:10 axle weighs more than a 3:73, and I could be wrong but the air suspensions came out I remember a lot of the complaints were they weighed to much affecting MPG's. This is also Rams choice but there could be part of your 10 seconds.

GM could easly tow alot more weight if they would just do what ram and ford id, lower gear ratio. anyways all 3 get the job done pick the one you want
@aaronjones83418 жыл бұрын
true.. IMO the Chevy is the best looking... but I like the power of the Ram and Powerstroke
@Mebob20018 жыл бұрын
Aaron Jones i have driven all 3, me myself and i was sadly disappointed with the 6.7 powerstroke. and i have towed with a cummins and had 25k and a duramax and a powerstroke all on the same day with same 5th wheel trailer. guess what ALL 3 DID THE SAMETHING. they slowed down to 50 mph on the long grade went up in rpm's and stayed there till the top! but the cummins did get alot warmer then the other 2 for some reason but minor details

the chevs are nice trucks but stock they have the ugliest wheels and that stupid bazooka exhaust...the interior is nice looking but there's a sense of cheapness....and who ever pick out the button and switch placement should lose their jobs...the trailer brake control...totally in the wrong place and the switches in the centre...they put the pedal adjustment closest to the driver..and the exhaust brake furthest away....stupid
