Isn't m140i xdrive a much better comparison to Focus RS, if you want to compare it to a BMW? Both are hot hatches and all-wheel drives, instead of coupe and rear-wheel drive like M2 is.

Another great review guys, love the way you shoot these! Having owned the M2 and borrowed a RS press car for a week, I came to the same conclusion. Also, if you get the RS without those buckets the car becomes ten times better, the standard seat sit 5-6 inches lower, offer almost the same support and are more comfortable (can be heated too not the you Aussies really need that). Joe Achilles funny story. I also have the focus rs (us version) and I find the setting position spot on. I haven't tested the optional recargo seats, as they don't sell them here, but by the presenters driving position you can clearly observe the high seating position. Love the car by the way! Can't get it above 17.6mpg. Naughty car lol

Both of these cars in person amazing looking! The M2 is def classy'er looking, and the RS more aggressive, but both look great in their own ways. i especially love the rear fender flares of the M2. in person its freaking sick! I literally just saw two RS's drive right by me at the gas station while I was detailing my MK7 GTI, and I had to stop what I was doing, and do a double take. They were so sick! One was the primer grey, and the other white.

I couldn't tell these two guys apart......Great vid though chaps. In the UK the M2 would cost £48k and the Focus £36k, £12k is an awful lot of difference so I agree the Focus is the best bang for your money. That being said I would personally take the M140i over these as surely that is the ultimate bang for your buck whip. I think you have to fall into a certain age group to own the Focus and I personally don't like the sound it makes, it's certainly no RS3!!

Rofl M2 is within my budget and i didn't buy it because i like to have a boot and move my wife / kids around. The RS is what you buy for when you need the practicality and at the same time have a fun daily for the street in all weather. The M2 is what i would buy as a fun car for the track and completely mod it and strip it. Already have a Caterham R500 for that though, which is a lot more pure as an experience, so no thanks. Lessons learned: a hatchback is practical, and not all Ford owners are poor Joe's.

I have just left my new Ford RS Focus at the Dealership, after waiting 9 months for delivery I loss interest in it because in the UK the Ford Focus ST looks the same, The RS does not stand out, I have the BMW M2 it look great from all sides and it is F.... Quick and it makes the Ford RS dated

Understandable if looks is all you are interested in. But the M2 has conservative looks, costs more to purchase, costs more to own, and is nowhere near as fast as the RS on wet twisty roads where the excessive oversteer of the M2 is an embarrassment.

I'm actually a fan of the RS and would buy over any other hatch (although prefer the looks of the previous model). But if that's the argument you'd never buy a RWD sports car in case you need to race a 4WD car on wet roads. Not sure if you've driven the M2 but it's very well balanced and certainly does not have excessive oversteer.

Fast twisty roads are precisely the conditions the designers had in mind over which the RS should excel. And my rationale for buying the car. I haven't driven an M2 which I am sure is well balanced but in the wet, that oversteer makes it slower than the digitally-controlled assymetric 4WD of the RS. As for the costs of ownership. Well, I owned an E46 which dealt me some nasty repair bills over my 10 years' ownership. Nice car though. Reliability was an issue but maybe they have improved since 1999.

Pete's Channel agreed, no doubt it will be considerabley quicker in the wet, guess I'm just saying that a well balanced RWD car like the M2 can still be fun to drive in the wet. Just that you have fun at slightly lower speeds which is not a bad thing where I live. If I was somewhere else in the U.K. I'd get the RS and be very happy with it. Am hoping maintenance won't be too bad as only do 3k miles a year and plan to keep about 5 years, but hear what you're saying. Enjoy your car!

Honestly, if you love driving, there's no contest. The BMW walks all over the Ford. You can also ignore the retarded drag race. If you have a pulse, you'll be faster in the M2. I've owned my M2 for a month and it is much, much faster than the Focus RS. Steering is better, brakes are better, interior is better and the sound is glorious. While the Focus RS is a great car, the M2 has a sporty edge over it. And you can fit roof racks to it, though you might be able to fit a surfboard with the rear seats folded flat. Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy it, god knows I am.

+de r come on, its not so much better than the Focus RS, I drive a Fiesta ST, thought of swapping it for RS, but damn the RS was sold out... its selling like hot cakes.. now drove ma friends RS for about 700 kms and all I ve got to say is the RS delivers... see for someone in a budget the RS is supreme, I agree that if U ve got money to spent nope go with BMW, but if U ask me can BMW build such an awesome car for 50k, hell no, BMW cant make it, so thats where I found the Ford really smart, also did a track day at Sloakia Ring, the best lap my friend did was a 2:33.90, sure might not sound super fast,but the best BMW M2 lap time there is ay Slovakia Ring is a 2:31.xx which was put up by a pro racing driver, so if a Layman can come close to such lap times its because of incredible grip of the RS and its ability to make the driver push harder at bends

Try looking up the price of a 911 or Cayman in Australia. Prices here are crazy, if you work out the numbers, its more than just the Luxury Car Tax too, its called BMW tax, or Porsche Tax or whatever. They still havn't realized that you would sell more cars if you reduced the price. Yet Japanese and Korean cars are cheaper that Europe, hence that's what you see the most of, modern Korean cars are good quality and great value. A Kia Sorento GT0Line is 60k, an equivalent. BMW X5 is $120k.
