Exploring Our Roots: Remembering the Scientific Foundations of Improvement
"Those who do not study the past are doomed to repeat it." . The scientific foundations of modern approaches to system improvement were birthed as corrections to prior misunderstandings. These intellectual roots go back more than a century. In today's journey of healthcare toward accelerated improvements, it is easy, common and costly to forget or neglect the "classics," and thereby to repeat past mistakes. This keynote will be a reminiscence "around the campfire" about some of the important sources and breakthroughs in the science of improvement in the 20th Century.
