I have a 2015 Honda CRV. Had a hesitation problem for long time couldn't figure it out. The problem was a crack in the air flow duck between the carburetor and air filter. Take it off and check it. For me no more hesitation problem Runs brand new.

Thanks for posting foxerred! Our 2016 was doing the same thing. Checked it today with mirror and flashlight and ours had a crack also! Taped it up with electrical tape for now and ordered replacement air duct hose today!

Had similar symptoms with my 2014 CRV--surges, hesitation, loss of power, difficulty starting & dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. The first time this happened, the battery tested bad & simply changing my battery solved all problems. The next year these same problems reoccurred & a code showed my crankshaft sensor needed changing. In addition to the crankshaft sensor, I had them change the battery again too--I was too worried about being stranded. This work was done just this morning, only time will tell the outcome.

Not sure what you mean by crankcase sensor? Do you know what code was being set?

@@PhillipBailey My bad, it's the crankshaft sensor, not crankcase! I will correct it in my msg above. I don't know the code number, sorry. I am hoping the above fix works.

UPDATE: After getting my crankshaft sensor changed a few weeks ago, I have had no reoccurence of my previous problems.

The dealer uses pennzoil platinum, I recommend, and I think the voicosity of the oil, will change oil and filter today 9/19/2022

Literally any time a customer has a check engine light on or flashing, but not on when it arrives, you need to pull misfire data from last 10 drive cycles through mode 6 to determine if it was indeed misfiring. Nice scan tool though.

I have a similar problem. Tends to run rough, delays and hiccups when pulling away from a red light. Getting on the higheay and accelerating causes it to act like there’s an air fuel mixture problem. I’ve had diagnostics run, injectors cleaned, have tried seafoam, and oild is changed at regular intervals. Started at 80,000 miles, and it’s been to 3 mechanics. Since there are no codes, nobody can figure-out the issue. Still runs like crap! At 90,000miles, the front camera for the LKAS quit working and now all of the CMBS associated lights are lit-up like a Christmas tree on my dash. Honda wants $2,800 to fix the camera and the lights on a 2016 Honda CRV Touring. They still can’t give me an answer about the engine, though. Thank you for posting these videos.

Just because it's not setting a code does not mean there isn't a problem. The technician needs to road test the vehicle and record data parameters during the symptoms then review the data for a possible cause. I've had air fuel ratio sensor report falsely but not out of range, temp sensors maf sensors etc. Throwing parts at it is not cost effective but exploring forums where other owners have had the same issue might help. This vehicle never came back for the same issue and I don't know why there was so much oil in it. Good luck searching and thanks for watching. On another note what about a used camera component. Is that a possibility?

I had the same problem, car had a loss of power when accelerating from a stop sign or red light (basically anytime it was at a full stop). The solution was changing the upstream O2 sensor. For the 2016 CRV it's Denso part #234-9131 I changed it myself and the problem was instantly solved. I would watch a KZbin video and change it yourself.

My car has been doing this when I drive, the check engine light flashed but went off. I got my oil changed but it was suggested that I may need to have radiator fluid put in it or have it flushed. There’s no telling what speed it will drag or almost stop at

Before I found the problem on the air duct system. I had change the spark plugs fuel cap and mass air flow sensor denso at AutoZone .dealer will kill you on this sensor 325 dealer. AutoZone 135 same brand denso.

Was there a follow up video where a problem was diagnosed and replaced in the concern alleviated guaranteed or were you not able to actually find the problem and it still bothers the customer

I believe the problem of oil dilution is common on the Honda engines and may have been addressed with a software update to the PCM. As far as I know this has not been a repeat problem but I'm not sure if Honda did anything with a recall. Sorry wish I had a better answer.

2015 crv here with 160k miles. Car bucks/surges randomly. No codes and can't figure out why. Any ideas?

It's pretty tough to say whats going on. There are dozens of possibilities including plugs, coils, fuel supply problems, injectors, air induction leaks, MAF sensor problems, o2 sensor or internal engine problems like carbon buildup on the valves. It's could also be a transmission problem. Does it set any codes? What have you done so far?

Did you ever hear from the customer again and make a follow up video. My car is the same and is doing the same thing but the oil is not over full. I'm at a loss of what is wrong.

I have not heard from him since. So I'm assuming it's been fine. Oil dilution is quite common on these but if yours is not overfull I'd suggest to have a look at the fuel trims when it's acting up. It could be leaning out due to an induction leak.check the hose between the MAF sensor and throttle body for cracks. Try cleaning the MAF sensor. What has been done to address this so far?

I just had the same issue due a bad ckp and cmp sensors, both were changed bc the scan tool said that, but the problem of hesitation is still there, no codes tho, just the thing is that when It's hot outside the car does it, not when is cold or at night, only when is hot, I will be checking and cleaning the throttle body this weekend, any advice or update about it would be greatly appreciated, but honestly the factor of hot and cold is driving me crazy.

@luisalbertoacosta8385 First off, the scan tool does not tell you to replace the cam and crank sensors. If there are codes related to either, it could be a faulty sensor, wiring problem, or even a mechanical problem in the engine. Now, what kind of cam and crank sensor did you install? You may have introduced a problem by putting aftermarket parts in. Since changing those sensors did not fix it, they are not likely the problem. What is the oil level and quality like? Is it misfiring? Mode 6 data records total misfires over the last ten drive cycles. How many miles on it? What are the conditions of the sparkplugs? Air filter, vacuum leaks, fuel trims during condition?

I have the same problem and vehicle is at the dealership right now! It has 140K miles and is also giving no codes! Do you have any other advise? Did changing the oil do it?

I have not heard back from the customer and they indicated they would call or inform me it the hesitation problem persisted. I am going to suggest that the oil was thinned out due to prolonged oil change intervals coupled with cold weather driving and short trips. If you search some Honda forums this appears to be a common issue due to driving habits and maintenance. @@PhillipBailey The 1.5-liter engines have the fuel dilution problem, not the 2.4. The 1.5 was introduced in 2017 (US market) for the CR-V. Though this car was clearly overfilled. My daughter has a Civic with the 1.5 and it was pretty bad. You could smell the gas in the oil and the viscosity was very thin. There is a code update to make the engine warm up faster that's supposed to resolve it. We'll see... I have the hesitation issue on my 2016 CR-V. Mine was actually consuming oil. I did a piston soak, and then crankcase flush with Chemtool B12. I also changed the plugs. It ran like a new car for a while and the oil consumption was greatly diminished. The hesitation issue was completely gone. Now 30K miles since the hesitation issue is back. I'm going to try doing a longer piston soak before my next oil change. There were lots of little gooey carbon bits the first time I did it. Note to anyone considering this, you can destroy your engine if you do it wrong.

Gas is cloudy I put BP SILVER my dealer took a sample out and looks contaminated cloud ., ask me where I pump what type , my car acts up jerks goes under 1500rpms when I pushed it my check engine light went off flashing and lost of power right away try to accelerate no go misfire on cylinders 4 n was build with carbon spark plug was replace and car running smooth added new gas from shell plus no issue monitoring my car

Thanks Philip for this informative video. I have a 2015 CR-V. After replacing spark plugs and cleaning throttle body and resetting the ECM with a code reader, I got the hesitation issue. I did the idle relearn, the hesitation has been much better but fuel consumption has been worse. Consuming about 4 more litre per 100km. Any idea?

Without seeing the car and running data parameters it's very hard to say whats going on. I gather it's not setting a code. If the problem started after plug replacement you may have a bad plug or cracked plug. Is it counting any misfires? What are the fuel trims doing at various speeds and loads?

I have 2015 Honda CRV which had stalling problem--engine would not accelerate when I depressed gas pedal. When I let off and again pressed gas pedal it would accelerate. Problem became progressively worse. Replaced spark plugs, replaced electronic gas pedal. Bought used engine control module (ECM) and installed it, didn't realize you had to reprogram the vehicle--so I uninstalled the junk yard ECM and reinstalled my original ECM. Guess what!! No more engine stalling. It appears just by unplugging the three 48-pin connectors on the ECM and replugging them in fixed the problem--was it just corrosion on the 48-pin connectors?? My Honda CRV has been fine ever since--no more engine stalling.

Hi there I drive a 16 crv ex. I hear a very tiny hissing noise when I accelerate but goes away when released gas padel. Please give me some clues. Please help. Thanks

Does it do it sitting still when you Rev the engine? If so have an assistant Rev the engine while you listen for the noise under the hood. A stethoscope with the tip removed can help. Might also be something in the drive belt area. You could remove the Serpentine belt and run it for a short time see if the noise is eliminated. Check the pcv hoses as well.

Actually is not the oil, I find out why us doing this, the vacuum hose close to air intake was loose and was Crack on the plastic. After removing it, I can see the Crack, now someone assist me in correct the problem 9/21/2022

Engine is idling funny like it almost stalls out. Took for a drive and went to limp mode misfire in 2 and 3 but intermediate codes not permanent. Only went to limp mode twice. At dealership and they literally have 2 mechanics and a feild engineer look at it and can't figure it out. They THINK it's trans due to it not really taking off as much but my issue is with the idling and now stalling sometimes. They want to start a valve adjustments and engine cleaning to see if it fixes the issues. Help please been at the dealer for 3 weeks now.

Has the car been run on very low to an empty fuel tank? I ran mines a few times with the gas light on until I got to a gas station. Now it’s starting to do the same thing so I’m thinking it has something to do with the injectors.

Hi, had a problem whit.my 2010 crv.When the engine it s cold i have a hesitation stop go motion,its take 4,5 minutes to came to normal after the engine came warm ...doing only on cold engine.My mechanic clean the trhottle ,change the TPS sensor. Change the vtec selonoid,change he crankshaft sensor position, change the filters ,oil,spark plugs...nothing change ...no check engine no code ,can some one help me

Could be an under reporting MAF sensor or other induction leak making it lean when it's cold in open loop. Also possibly low fuel pressure.

I got rid of my 2010 crv 6 years later. Just happened to recently look up recalls and this model had a lot. Glad I got rid of it but won’t buy Honda again they just seem to be going downwards

There is a TSB for oil dilution and an ECM reflash that is supposed to address the condition. This car has not been back since so I don't have any update. Sorry I wish I had a better answer.

WOW Phillip, that much oil almost double amount i wonder if the customer keep adding the oil to the engine or hmm did u find why the oil was so much ?.

I believe its fuel dilution as I found several Honda forums where this has been discussed. Just can't explain why it wasn't running rich due to the PCV drawing off the fumes from the crankcase. I've had lots of GMs high pressure pumps leaking into the crankcase but they almost always trip rich fault codes. Unless the PCV system is not working on this vehicle? hmmm... I don't believe the customer has changed the oil for some time as well. Time will tell.

@@PhillipBailey I have the same vehicle and have experienced this issue. It usually happened to me (loss of power) when the ignition was turned on and I'd drive off immediately (at normal operating temperature, not a cold start). It also happened occassionally at lights/stop signs. I tried techron, no real help. I cleaned the MAF, no help. I changed the spark plugs (didn't change the coil packs) and the problem went away for the most part, it happens now only very occassionally. I intend to clean out the throttle body and change the pcv in the spring and see if that helps any more.

@@PhillipBailey I wonder if a Quick Lube place screwed up and filled the customer's oil without draining the old oil.... It probably would be possible in some of those shops...

@@Dennisp421 I don't believe that happened since the customer had not had an oil change for some time. It was actually due for a service. Oil dilution on this engine is very common especially in cold climates.

That's pretty hard to help you with as your description is pretty vague. Are there any fault codes being recorded by the engine computer?

@@mjhb2313 well without being able to hear and or feel the "buzzing feeling" I can't even begin to tell you where to start. Describe this noise better. Does it happen all the time? At Idle sitting still or does the car have to be moving? Is it related to engine speed or vehicle speed?

@@PhillipBailey after 4th shift, the rpm needle will drop down to 1500.thn if u press accelerate pedal; speed needle will go up but rpm will stuck at 1500 and one can feel buzzing feeling and if pedal is pressed more, suddenly the rpm will move up.it happens all the time when the speed become low

Car has been fine since. It's a mistory for sure. Never seen oil contamination without rich fault codes. Being overful that much could have resulted in the crank splashing and causing aeration of the oil which could cause cam timing errors but thats just a theory.

One time my car said 15% oil life and I put oil in it and didn't need to. I bet that's what happened

Your engine oils life will reduce as you get closer to your oil change interval, but that doesn't mean your engine has consumed any oil. Check your oil level regularly, especially before you decide to add more

After I put this type of oil cause, don't use Castrol gtx, it effect my vehicle, no code, dick stick was full of oil, I am changing back to pennzoil platinum full synetheic.
