Great video, have just successfully completed this take. One tiny thing is you still may have to push your caliper back 5mm to get it over new and disk. You don't have to twist the piston so can just use a c clamp. It doesn't take much force

Great video. I managed to do this successfully. One word of warning however. At the second step when you press the accelerator pedal and parking brake button down, if your car is on a slope (as mine was), the car will start rolling down the hill! Thankfully, I noticed and put the brake back on. Tip is to put the car in gear first to stop it rolling.

Thanks for the e-brake maintenance mode tutorial. Worked well for me. Also I too had a hard time removing the rear bottom caliper bracket bolt. Since the bolts are exposed to salt dirt water etc. they corrode a bit on the end. Seems mazda could have used a shorter bolt in that location.

My brakes went into maintenance mode when the battery died and I needed a jump start. Had no idea what the issue was. Incredibly frustrating. This feature makes no sense, but thanks for the video.

I bought a 2017 Mazda 6 with the EPB warning light (orange) on and it won't go off. When trying to exit maintenance mode it sounds like the E-brake moves and gets stuck? Then the EPB light (red) starts flashing until I press the electronic parking brake button forward to release. Thoughts?

Do you have to do this step to remove the rear calipers? I attempted to change my rear brakes without doing this step, and could not remove the caliper after removing the bolts. I assumed it was seized due to heat and gave up, but if i had done this step first, would it have mattered for my issue?
@fixitfrank412 Жыл бұрын
Not entirely sure, but it might be worth trying. I'd do this then use a screwdriver to help pry the caliper off, without prying on anything plastic!

I’ve been trying to push these rear caliper pistons in a few times this afternoon with no success. I was getting stressed. Now I discover the car has a maintenance mode!? I’m relived. Hoping this can be with the car already on jacks with calipers off the rotor
@fixitfrank4122 жыл бұрын
Yep, just hope you didn't damage anything trying to push them in without maintenance mode turned on.
@patrickjmoynihan2 жыл бұрын
@@fixitfrank412 me too. I did just read a forum that said if you do maintenance mode after removal your likely in need of a new caliper. Or in my case two. I’ll update shortly. Crossing my fingers

Does this "maintenance mode" retract the parking brake plunger all the way, so you don't have to remove the electric motor from the caliper and retract it by hand with a T40 (I think) bit? Or do you still need to do that?
@fixitfrank4122 жыл бұрын
No, no need to do that if you put it in maintenance mode. Just gently press it in, there will be little resistance if you put it in maintenance mode correctly.

I've done a lot of brakes so when my son brought over his car I just did like I normally do and I changed the back brakes. That was about 5K miles ago and I didn't know about maintenance mode until today. His is fine and worked without an issue, however, I would not suggest anyone do it without putting it in maintenance mode first.
