Only have refilled my new CX-5 Touring once, so take that with a grain of salt. Did lots of research prior to buying this car..Wife, even made an excel spreadsheet to compare Outback, Rav 4 and CX-5. There is little to no road noise.. Plus most of us listen to music anyways.. Wish it had a little more cargo room, and memory seats, but I can't complain for the price, technology package included. Love the power, where power is needed, smooth ride and look. FYI, free navigation updates for 3 years. Bose stereo sounds incredible and now don't mind being stuck in traffic! Test drive one, you won't be disappointed. One more thing, read and watch all the popular review forums, sites, youtube. They are not being paid to praise how well Mazda has done on their 2016 CX-5.

I love your reviews. A hint: to test the collision prevention system, you can use the same TP packs placed in the middle of the road. Or empty cardboard boxes. Or air balloons. If the test fails, no damages.

I have a 2016 Touring that I have already put 31000 miles on. Everything still real nice and I am averaging a very nice 27.2 mpg from the 2.5 liter Skyactive engine. My wife and I took this vehicle from the Midwest out to the west coast in August and it handled the mountains with no problem. Also this is my second cold snowy winter with it and the AWD is sure footed and inspires confidence. I am still very happy with a purchase that I am still paying the bank on.

Any issues with the windshield, or the headlights?

@@Gh0stInTheMachines81 I traded off the 2016 for a 2021 one year ago. I never had any issues with the headlights....however we did have to put in a new windshield. Still not sure how it got cracked? The newer 2021 has thicker glass on both the front windshield and both front doors. It did make a difference with road noise....the 21 is a quieter vehicle.

Still the best in the segment. Mainly down to driving dynamics. I bet it has the base new gen X1 licked too

Yes nice supple suspension ,agile handling and nimble steering make it a joy to drive. i would love to see Mazda put the new 2.5 turbo in a CX5 which is lighter than the CX9

I really like mine. My only complaint is very common in most cars today: Lumbar support! I just use a small back cushion and now it"s fine.

I bought the 2016 grand touring model with FWD only and next to the top tech. package and I really love this car. With the roof rack, I think it is the best looking in its class.

Good point and gross oversight. I believe Mazda calls it the "winter hot chocolate warmer...a $99 option, only with the tech package" Nice catch

These newer cars such as nissan rogue or even this cx-5 today are looking just as nice as these expensive luxury cars out there when it comes to the interior.

+Anomize23 these standard cars are getting fitted with such nice interiors luxury cars may become useless in the near future. actually it won't. there are still too many high maintenance materialistic people who care too much about brand.

One of the best things about the MAZDA? It uses a traditional geared trans instead of the troublesome CVT!!!

Najee Jackson Not coming out until mid year as a 2018 model but......... I NEVER buy a first year model car, ALWAYS some problems with them I don't care who makes them. Also this model has been around for a few years so the 2016 "should" be the most reliable. Also I'm sure the price will go up for the 2018 model, the 2016 is great looking and the interior reminds me of a BMW, plenty nice for me!

Najee Jackson Well we needed a vehicle NOW not 6 months from now.....not interested in the car play all I need is a radio, maybe satellite and I still listen to CDs and it has that so I'm fine! And like I said I NEVER buy a first year model car.

Motor City Man we got one a week ago and I couldn't stop saying nice things about it. We got the gt without the tech package. Drives like a car, easy to operate, looks elegant and sporty at the same time. You won't regret it. Black with the black wheels looks awesome.

Great review Tom! Very helpful. I’m debating between purchasing a 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring or a 2016 Honda CR-V EX-L. I have a very bad lower back and am going through physical therapy for the past few years, with chronic back pain. Given the bad roads in California, I feel every little bump in the road, with my current car (2006 Honda CR-V 2WD). A short 30 min drive, leaves me with a very sore back. Which car would you recommend for this? Which has better suspension to absorb these shocks? Also would a 4WD be better for this as compared to a 2WD? How would you also compare the resale value & ease of resale for both cars? Thanks a lot for your guidance!

+Rohit S Well if you live in california assuming your roads are paved the FWD should be good enough. With traction control should handle rain and probably the occasional wet snow you guys might get out there. I would go with the Cx5 we have a 2016 and love it. A new 2016.5 just came out about a month ago.

can you answer this question??....my father is planning to buy a suv for our family...but we were confused which one to buy...my father chooses mazda cx5 ot the new kia sportage...which should he buy...i prefer the cx5 cause the interior looks nice and the dashbaord looks so simple but compact but it doesnt have the rear air vents...kia sportage had rear airvents but the exterior is nicer...its dahsboard looks so dated and theyre so many buttons..
