2016 Nissan Maxima S: The Maxima is BACK! Real World Review and Test Drive

I basically always liked the Maxima...I'll admit there were some years in there where it may have lost it's way a bit, but now Nissan is swinging for the fences. But did they make the bleachers?
As always, I try to bring you an unscripted, real world review that is relatable to the average consumer...not just reading from the press release.

Thanks for this review. I'm planning to grab a 2016 in early 2017 (when they're trying to get rid of those last couple to make room for more 2017's) and it will likely be the first time (in 5 generations of maxima) that I go with the base model. The standard features are amazing. Even the non leather seats are so sporty looking and we'll designed that you don't miss her leather that much.

You have helped me circle in on a decision. I LOVE this Maxima, it is hella sexy, sporty, luxurious and pretty fierce looking! I am going with the SL trim. My brother has a Lexus, and honestly, this Maxima has just as many bells and whistles. It is now 2017, and I don't see much difference between the 2016 and 2017 except that I can save about 5 grand on the 2016, so I may just do that. Thanks again for the review!

I have this as a platinum model, it's absolutely amazing, dealer tinted my windows for free, and is also going the instal my ground lighting which was my fav feature on my Altima.

Thanks - for an amateur, superb camera work, editing and narration! (A little slip calling it 'Mazda' only proved you are human). I kept 1995 Nissan Maxima for 15 years. Was a great unpretentious car with a terrific V6 even back then. But subsequent models lost their way into styling wilderness until this looker came along. I definitely agree 'Maxima is back!' in this latest Avaatar.

I appreciate that you test the base model rather than the top-end models. There's nothing wrong with testing high-end models, but not everyone can afford those, and as noted, a base model pretty much applies to the entire line, taking into account upgrades.

CVT answer!... People don't like it because in a normal transmission i.e. a 6 speed, the transmission will hold the revs in that gear when driving hard/sporty; you want and need that pause/hold in that particular gear when cornering, braking exc, thats why people do not like CVT's just as you said it continuously goes! And I agree with another comment already made! Keep to the points you want to make and definetly under 10 minutes! Thats just my opinion; I hate long car reviews i.e. FLD or something like that... 25 minute videos to talk about wiper blades, aint no body got time for that! Other than that cool vid, I like your approach and you warned us before viewing of no edit exc so we can't even be mad! Peace bro!

A CVT can have a brief lag if it has to drop a large number of ratios for acceleration. But they are excellent in stop/go city crawl.

I'm about to buy a 2016 Maxima S.. Does it still have the nice ambient lighting?.. It's like a cool white and you can change the dim on it. It wraps around the cars dash and doors.. I really like it..

Trust me when I say this car is extremely nice, because it is. I, as well bought the base model last year in 2021. It's a silver/on black (cloth) 2017 with nineteen thousand miles, practically a new car. The power is outstanding, I've blown BMW'S off the road, the interior is outstanding, even though it's not leather. The air conditioner is outstanding, the gas mileage is outstanding (it doesn't, & I repeat IT DOESN'T DRINK GAS AT ALL). The stereo is outstanding, navigation outstanding, backup camera, car has every single option on it. I will say get your car professionally tinted, mine with the silver, blacked out windows (& yes I even lightly tinted the front window, & no I've not had any problems with johnny law). The car actually looks like a stealth fighter jet, the base model has the exact same engine as the platinum edition.

BTW, first time I drove a Maxima was a rental in 1996. That was such an awesome car to drive! The six-cylinder engine was smooth as silk. My only concern is that the preferred fuel is premium; hopefully it does OK with regular for everyday driving. The 2016 Maxima looks better than some models in the early 2000s that really did look ugly or not what I thought the Maxima should be.

I love this 2016-2017 maxima its sporty..athletic..the VQ v6 is powerful smooth and the X tronic cvt is really smooth acceleration responsive..beat the bmw 3 series, acura v6 and audi 4 in the track..this maxima is true 4door sports car..awesome job nissan..

I have the platinum and love it. My only complaint is the height of the passenger seat. It sits much lower than the driver seat and cannot be adjusted. Other than that I may keep this one awhile!

Nice review although the Nissan Maxima 3.5 S does come standard with navigation beside all of the few features you've mentioned right now you can get this version for 26k which is insane being that it starts off at 32k so it like drop its value and price by 7000 I'm not sure if that's a good thing if some are planning to keep their vehicle and pay it off.... however it's a darn good looking car depending on the car I'd buy it used for the looks inside and out and especially because it's a v6 woot woot

I bought my wife a 2016 Nissan Platinum it's in the pearl blue this car is awesome it outperforms lot of the cars that I previously had I cannot say anything bad about the car or the handling, perfect specially in sport mode, with all the options you get, the price tag you pay, you get one hell of a deal, my price tag MSRP was 43.760, I got everything you could possibly get on this car, I got the last year end model, a customer ordered it but could not get the financing. and I walked away with paying 32.280 Plus TTL, I got one hell of a deal, before you knock this car drive the car then you'll know what I'm talking about. one hell of a nice car.
