Chattanoogans here. I bought a 2015 Passat yesterday 10/22/2015. I had a 2014 Jetta I traded in. I love my VWs and yes they cheated! But you know what ? They still make a darn good car and right now they are cheeeeeeep. I bought 2015 Passat limited tsi for $18999 sticker was $25600. Now they will recover if they continue to discount right now. The showroom was packed with folks buying these deeply discounted Passat. I did not have a color choice was the only downside. I love the car and btw they paid off my Jetta that I traded in.. Now how often does that happen. Rock on VW! Clean up this mess and make Tdi customers whole again!

Yeah, I live in the Myrtle Beach area and my mom and I went looking at midsized sedans at dealerships and the Passat had discounts of up to $6700.

+joegolden481 Along the same lines, I got a 2015 CC in october that stickered for $34,500 for $26,000, and then got a $2000 loyalty bonus because I'm already a VW owner. So I got a $34,000 car for $24,000, at .9% interest. I had to do it, they were practically giving them away. The dealership was selling cars like hotcakes and now, apparently, thank to all the discounting, US VW dealers are facing a severe lack of inventory.

technically the 2012-present US Passat is a stretched and updated PQ46 platform, the same that debuted the 2006-2010 B6 Passat. So yeah, that B5.5 was the last architecture of the US Passat

+soundseeker63 Technically, the B5.5 was the previous Gen. This is really just a face lift of a face lift of a face lift of the B6. And on that note, what the flying FUCK happened to the Passat? Or really VW in the US in general? I have a W8 Wagon, and I was super excited to finally be able to buy something as unique again with the R400, but diesel gate seems to have ruined that according to Mathias Mueller. Then, I thought if VW brought the B8 to the US with the supposed 3.0 VR6TT, a 6 speed and 4-Motion in wagon form, I'd finally buy another VW. But, alas, they give us this hideous, old, outdated garbage.

I feel that many individuals who wanted a diesel powered automobile before this happened will still want a diesel powered car or truck. And while my saying this might not be too popular, I feel that the standards of the EPA are too stringent, and too damned difficult. Back in 2009, I read an article that said that several automakers were selling diesel powered cars and small trucks in Europe, that were getting ~65 mpg, including Ford Motor Company. But that these cars and trucks weren't permitted to be sold here in the U.S. because they did not meet the EPA's emissions standards, BUT those cars and light trucks did/would have met the EPA standards of just two years earlier. I am not suggesting that we go back to NO standards at all, but if the U.S. could have a nation of cars and light trucks that were getting 65 mpg, and the EPA kept this from happening because of a VERY SMALL emissions score, then in my honest opinion, the EPA, as well as most of the other alphabet soup agencies, are doing more harm to the country than good. And, in my opinion, the real automotive pollution problems in this country are from the older cars and trucks in this country, especially those old cars and trucks that are not properly maintained, you know, the ones that we all see every week or two, the ones with a giant cloud behind them. The ones that we see and think to ourselves that they must be using a quart of oil a week, or maybe even a day. All right, I've ranted enough. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts. Thank you.

It depends on what you mean by "better". If you mean that; My uncles 3 month old Gen 7 Golf breaking down twice in the week i visited him, stranding us both times on the M11 motorway My friend buying a used VW for 6.5k and him going through 3 gearboxes in 6 months or my aunts VW Continental (it's not a Bentley) needing over $20,000 in repairs in one year So if you mean VW are better at being unreliable, then I'd agree with you. Audi and VW have been my most costly car ownership experiences. I wouldn't mind but none of them passed 60k. Yet i did over 200k in my Toyota and all i had to change in that time was a rear wheel bearing @ 167k and a mid section of my exhaust, which cost me £30 to replace. My Golf with less than 60k, I was doing near £150+ per month in repairs. Biggest heap of junk ever! My 200k+, bar servicing, I don't think i've spent that in repairs in the entire time i've owned it!

These car reviewers all want the same thing, sportiness, and flash. But what about reliability, and durability. I own a VW Jetta 1.8 turbo, my first German car. It's been one problem after another. It has 73,000 mile now and has needed (mass air flow sensor, new injectors, new throttle body, a transmission problem VW doesn't know how to fix, a secondary air pump problem they can't fix, the Check Engine light is always on, the glove box has broken twice, and numerous other smaller problems, and the oil pan seal is leaking). I've been meticulous with servicing it, and have used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and all the best filters since I bought it new, just as I've done with my other vehicles. It also drives poorly in the snow, which is one reason so many people buy SUV's or 4x4 trucks in snowy or mountain areas, like where I live.
@adamn75169 жыл бұрын
+ron mortensen Its all part of the "fun" of owning a VW. I had 2001 GTI with the same 1.8T and in the first 45k miles I had a turbo, AC compressor and auto tranny replaced, all under warranty thankfully. For the remaining 60k mile of its life the problems were pretty much limited to a couple MAF sensors, coilpacks and a few other odds and ends but nothing costly and all of which I replaced myself. Also had a power steering fluid leak but not bad enough to worry about. Finally at around 112k miles one of the cylinders developed low compression caused by piston rings which while the car ran ok for the most part it caused misfire codes and CEL light and would have never made it thru its next inspection. Decided it was time to trade it as I did not want to spend the $2k+ to rebuild the motor. I will say this, this car NEVER left me stranded. Even when the tranny went it was able to limp to the dealership in 2nd gear. 3rd and 4th were gone. I have owned 4 VW's over the years and I have a love hate relationship with them. I love driving them. IMHO nothing from the GM, Ford, or Chrysler or even the japanese have quite the same balance of driving dynamics that VW's have. That being said they are flakey where reliability is concerned and that the hate part I have for them. Currently do not have a VW but would I own another one, I can say absolutely yes. Guess I am a masochist that way.

VW makes great cars and very simple, classy. Most of their cars have a very conservative look to them. Which is why I think many people buy them. The american Passat isn't comparable to the European however I don't think that's VWs goal. I think those seeking a more agressive look should be taking a look at Audi! VW is actually taking responsibility with their mistake and saying they will do all that is necessary to make it right. While mistakes done by american car companies have most of the time been swept under the rug, denied any wrong doing or just flat out ignored known problems; And with american car companies were talking problems that were safety issues to the consumer, and while not passing emissions is a pretty big deal i think immediate safety concerns are more dangerous. and i mostly disagree with romans statement at the end of the video. still like the channel though :)

+Pedro Contreras You're way off. A cheat isn't a "mistake", it is the defrauding of people by intentionally deceiving them. On top of that, what VW did was completely disregard people's health in the long term. This actually all reaches a level of nefariousness that is way beyond a "mistake". While other companies have harmed people, there was no bad intention behind them more often than not, it was literally just a mistake. Also, there are examples of unscrupulousness, but anything widespread would completely destroy the companies and even the industry. Beyond that, claiming "mistakes done by american car companies have most of the time been swept under the rug" is just baseless and ridiculous. There's no way you can support that.

I just purchased a CC last month, wanna know why I bought it? because I love the German feel of it! if I wanted an "American" car then I would have bought a ford. German engineering is some of the best there is! they build sturdy, fun, stylish, reliable, safe, and solid vehicles and that's not something you can say about most American or Japanese vehicles. my mom has a EX-L Accord and my dad has a Ram 1500, both are great vehicles but when comparing them to my VW there is no competition. my car feels and looks much more expensive and drives totally different! I always tell people if you have never driven a Volkswagen, or any German car for that matter you really should! they're so different. that's why I say Volkswagen, stay true to your roots and keep building great vehicles in Germany!

The US spec Passat is not like many here think "of lower quality" then the German Passat. The interior finish is of top quality exactly the same way as the German, the difference is that the US Passat is suited for American buyers who like larger vehicles. As the VW brand itself is considered a "quality/value brand", some of the German Passat's characteristics are reserved for Audi as a luxury brand. Audi is struggling to keep up with big names like Mercedes and BMW on the US market, mainly due to poor reliability scores. Now when you look back in time, that's exactly what VW is supposed to be: Value/low price. Looks like exactly that changed in Europe, whereas a nice Passat goes upwards the 70-80k euro mark..

TDI owners are some of the most passionate and vocal VW customers. VW needs to do a buy back program unless they can magically bring all the emissions into compliance quickly and without detriment to power or mileage. I think it really might be cheapest if they upgraded all TDI owners into a new gas powered VW, it's gotta be cheaper than all the lawsuits.

I actually like the conservative styling of Volkswagen, what prevent me from owning a VW is the cost of ownership. Make a VW add dependable and add cheap to own (maintenance, fuel economy, etc.) And I'll probably be going to VW for my next car.

I just bought a 2015 Volkswagen Limited with 4 miles on it. After driving it for a few days I noticed a wind/air leak in the right rear window/door. Contacted the dealer they did some test said there is nothing they can do at this point, I contacted corporate they said get another opinion however there is nothing they can do at this point. Needless to say not a very good first impression at a VW owner.

It's actually the Chinese market who drive the demand for rear leg room and will probably be worth more to VW in the long run than US sales.

Roman, why would any company in their right mind, no matter how many problems they have, intentionally move to Detroit?
@thomasbailey41398 жыл бұрын
I actually appreciated his 3 point plan. The design hasn't felt complete to me as well. I wish they would've focused on making the ride better and said this is just going to be a solid car for cruising, because it's not sporty at all. I don't think they did anything wrong. But they definitely could come out guns blazing saying I'm sorry and using the American card, they do employ hundreds of people. If not thousands.

Why american model is different from eu
@sic22l9 жыл бұрын
+EFE YELESTi EU model is too expensive.
@1guyin109 жыл бұрын
+EFE YELESTi They tried the EU models here for many years and they never sold well. They were much smaller than the competition, somewhat expensive and their reliability was not that great (a major problem when you are competing with the virtually bulletproof Camry). The US Passat would have sold better from the beginning if Wolfsburg had been willing to listen to its US customers. The styling should have been closer to what we see on the CC instead of the stoic vanilla styling it received. Even little things like the infotainment system were misses. They couldn't even figure out that they should offer USB ports like every other manufacturer in the world.

+EFE YELESTi The US Passat is bigger and has less of the German engineering and high end parts. Designed to a price. Its a nice car, but I'd rather have the European version

What does VW have to do in order to increase sales in U.S.? Provide industry's best warranty like Hyundai/Kia's 10 years/100k miles warranty. VW does not sell because people do not trust its reliability.

The last recommendation made to VW was the worst one. The American mentality and the German mentality of producing cars are naturally very different. If VW were to move its headquarters to America the quality (German engineering) of the cars will drastically go down and you'd see cheaper parts like what dodge and Chrysler would use. Volkswagen, stay in Germany! We love your German engineering!

DISCLAIMER: I do not live in the U.S. I can somewhat understand the suggestion on engraving cars into American culture, although it still sounds a little idealistic. However, moving the HQ from Wolfsburg to Detroit? That's a pretty bold statement, implying that America is Volkswagen's most concentrated market. I'm nitpicking though, so back to reality.

I totally disagree with Fast Lane Car on 2016 Passat video. Volkswagen should enhance its Euro design and engineering. This is what makes it most attractive to a lot of American buyers. In fact , the last generation Passat was somewhat better in performance style and accouterments. I couldn't believe that interviewer came out with those closing comments!

Many thx Roman for a very thorough review. You're so right that this car is somewhere in the middle of the attitudes it is about to show. With such a small engine It's not that sporty, lomousine like or having a highway prowess. To me it should have 2.0t engine of 190-200hp to start with. Of course I would not consider a VW diesel...;)))

The design needs to have more passion and more character like Camry or Accord. This is otherwise a very good car with conservative German style that may not look as good as Hondas or Toyotas but will look classic over the years down the road.

All these features should have been included in the 2012 version as the competitors did. And like VW did in other markets. Its a little too late to be honest as these features are now showing up on Corrola, Altima, even sentra's to an extent and finally Civic. correct me if im wrong. While the Passat competes with Maxima, accord, and Camry, and fusion. A welcome addition that is a little late.

My thoughts: drop the 1.8T and replace it with 2.0T. Give us AWD with the smaller motor and make it standard on the 3.6, because really? A 280hp front wheel drive? That's exciting 😒. I want a navi screen that's bigger than my phone please. Make push button start standard along with HID headlights. Bring back that premium feel that I loved in the previous iteration.

+Evander Smart The Quality is much higher than the one that Chevrolets or Fords actually have. If i were an American, i would not always took the upper Position, the arrogant American viewpoint (like: We are the best.). Instead, i would ask myself: Why is Volkswagen bigger than Ford or General Motors? I would be aware of the fact that Volkswagen is Motorcompany in the world! And that it is dominating the biggest car market: China. Just ask yourself: Why do (mostly) only Americans by american cars?? Maybe, they are just not good enough for other markets. Volkswagen is a Name all over the world. And that won´t change. (often Shares it s Position with Toyota.)
@1GTASANANDREASCJ9 жыл бұрын
+ma. B. "The Quality is much higher than the one that Chevrolets or Fords actually have" Nope, it never had better, just looked nicer ;-) "the arrogant American viewpoint (like: We are the best.)" It's the same in Germany. People say: "Uhh i drive a Golf, i'm better than you".. No comment required... Volkswagon is bigger than Ford and GM, because People all over the world are getting always the massage: "German engineering is best engineering". Volkswagon is a huge company, made it huge by selling crappy products over a expensive price. Ford does that either... " not good enough for other markets" Buick sells since a long time badged Opel, many Fords are available in Europe and Asia. This argument don't counts very well The last point: Toyota stands for quality, VW stands for German engineering. People want booth, so they buy more Toyota. The cars are reliable, not expensive and the Japanese company call sometimes cars back, which do have faulty parts. VW owner have to pay for VW crap engineering, e.g. camshaft chain which lengthen and causes irreparable damage to the engine or DSG's with crap clutches. These things often happened in the years 2008 to 2013. And guess what VW say? VW: State of the art (techonology), individual case (means it's only you) or just lie into you eyes at the dealership.

+zonie1953 This is just such a load of crap. If there is one nation on earth that has always considered itself to be no.1 in anything and better than anyone else, it is the US. Probably followed by the japanese, who have still kept a lot of their mindset from WW2 and the japanese Empire. And who, unlike Germany, have never apologized or made amends for their various war crimes and massacres during ww2 and still rather claim they never happened and react insulted and aggressive when confronted with them. They even are deleted from their history books and talking about them can get you in a lot of trouble in the ultra conservative and nationalist japanese society... Their prime minister actually recently visited a memorial to a japanese general, who outside of Japan is considered a criminal of war.
