I remember watching this 6 years ago and wanting this bike. I finally picked one up as my first bike this weekend after passing the MSF, and she is everything I thought she would be. The previous owner put better brakes on it and stiffened the suspension, and my only complaint is the fuel tank and wind. This bike is rips and I couldn’t imagine needing anything else.

Yamaha hit so many of the boxes with this bike: less than $7k, less than 400 lbs, huge flat torque curve, and they made a parallel twin that actually sounds GOOD. I also really love how the entire exhaust system fits underneath the bike - manufacturers that make single sided swing arms take notes! Definitely thinking of picking up one of these used in a year or two. You'll probably find them for $4k-$5k with low miles by then.

Chase isn't lying about the engine braking. I have the 2015 FZ-07 and if you let go of the throttle be prepared to start decelerating, hard. I'm a new rider and this is my first bike for all the reasons Chase mentioned, easy start and fun torque. Glad to see the video, keep them coming!

It's a great bike. I saw your first, first ride of this bike and I decided to go pick up one for myself. It's fantastic for the price. I put on a Yoshimura exhaust and got a power commander, and it made the bike even better. Anybody considering this bike, I can promise you it's worth it. And btw, this was my first bike, and I agree that it's a great starter bike. Just be careful in 1st and 2nd gear, you can really get yourself in trouble if you aren't prepared for the wheelies.

I learnt to ride on this bike. Honestly fell in love with it, it was such an incredible bike. I have always been a huge cruiser fan, a honda shadow 500 is like my dream bike, but the MT-07 was euphoric to drive. Everything he says in this video is so true. It's unbelievably comfortable, the engine is more than capable for the motorway and the handling is so suited to the city. The only issue I have is that hitting a corner too fast, especially when wet, wipes you out unbelievably fast, the bike just slides out. Other than that, incredible bike.

Its great. Awesome for in the city. Its very nimble and light. Its very comfortable and it steers very sharp. The pillion capabilities are a lot less. and the mapping isnt as brilliant because it tends to stall when pulling away from a stand still with only the clutch. Easily fixed by combining it with a little throttle off course. Suspension is on the soft side but then again this bike is comfort focused and not performance. Oh and for the price you really cant go wrong.

I bought my 15 FZ-07 about a year and a half ago. first thing I bought for it was a Yoshimura exhaust. I never put the baffle in and I am absolutely in love with the way it sounds. cruising it's not too loud but it sounds amazing whenever you get on the throttle. there's some nice pops when the engine braking kicks in. I don't think I will ever get rid of this bike it's been great.

To all of you that want to buy a first bike and having the fz/mt-07 on your list: I bought it for my first bike in 2014 when it came out. Its a very good first bike. It's gas definately doesn't scare you and it's throtle isn't gonna make you any tricks, what you give is what you take. For the city is flawless.Low weight and flickable. Trips on highway any longer than 1 hour will start to get tiring. If you think you can't ride a 690cc motorcycle go 500 or 300 or maybe lower(thats why 125s exist), there are people that need more time than others to learn. I personaly, when I bought it, felt that I already owned that motorcycle for years. couple of tips: 1.if you're a beginner buy the ABS version it will save your life or your bike 2.If you change the exhaust the sound will completely be transformed. So if you want to go beast mode, do it!!

As an fz07 owner there is one thing I want to point out to others who want this bike that he didn't mention. I don't know if most bikes do something like this, but Yamaha (for whatever stupid reason) decided to make a smart gas reader. What this does, is it reads how much gas is in your tank and takes how you drive and anticipates when it needs to tell you when to fill up. Many riders will go about 25-30 more miles when they hit their "reserve" due to this. I, for one along with many others, wish this was not apart of the bike as it gets really annoying really fast. Also, the torque can throw you for a loop if you are really fresh to motorcycles, so there is that. It's for that reason I personally don't recommend this is as a first bike as I've seen 3 different people go over at 10mph because they weren't ready for the sudden wheelie, but that still hasn't stopped so many from making this their starter bike.
@alemspreco8 жыл бұрын
where i live (sweden) i can get this bike as a starter, they offer it as a limited power version, where they limit the power to 35 kw because in stock form it has 55kw ( im 18 and im limited to a 35 kw bike ) do you think that with the limited power this would be a better started bike for me, cuz this is on top of my list
@attackcat1098 жыл бұрын
hmm... my problem for this being as a starter bike was never the power, but the torque. That said however if they limited it, I think the torque follows in suit so my best guess is maybe. : / sorry I'm not much more help than that.
@RSfiregod8 жыл бұрын
have my 35kw licence for 3 months now, this was on my list aswell, but you can hardly find them used for the A2 so i went with the ninja 300 and although it is small and i already miss some power, there is still a lot to learn for me. i already had a small accident and seeing what a motorcycle costs in total i would advice to only buy this bike if its pre-used. NOT NEW! unless money is no problem for you then go ahead but know that after 2 years you'll get your A licence and will sell it. so.... if you want new, but a good resell value and great for beginners with a low tax and insurance cost i would recomend the R3 i rode one of a friend and it is slightly faster then the ninja but you'll have a more "rare" bike to sell in 2 years so a better price for it.
@alemspreco8 жыл бұрын
+RSfiregod in my local Yamaha dealership there are 1 new and 2 used ones. they are both for A license but the will electronically restrict it at the dealership to A2, and when I have my A license I can just go back and make it so I get the stock power

I recently attended two Yamaha demo events these past two weekends. I got to ride all three of these models as well as the XSR900. The FZ-07 was a very fun around town bike. Decent power, comfortable, light, well you seen this vid. I disliked the placement of the footpegs and it was slightly buzzy compared to the other two. The FZ-10 was just a blast to ride. Power wherever whenever you want, comfortable, nice tech, smooth as butter, and its sounds beautiful. Same wheelbase as the 07 so even though its heavier its very flickable. The FZ-09 i would have to say would be my favorite of the three. It blends the best of both worlds for me, and with the new styling, seat, suspension, abs, tcs, and slipper assist clutch for just 8,999 its absolutely a happy medium.

i have never wridden the tracer, but i think the mt07 is just cool in every Single part and you cannot go wrong with it as a beginner bike,especially if you come from something smaller. As an owner of a 15 Fz07 as my first bike for over a year and a month, The Fz07 is a great bike still overall. Especially with an akrapovic exhaust system. Chase is right on the money for tall riders. I'm 6 ft, 320 pounds and it pulls me well. Even a wheelie out of me. (Still jealous that chase can wheelie the thing on first try riding it while I'm still trying to this day)
@cdmoto_42828 жыл бұрын
+Revolt Wolf Get it in second going roughly 15 - 20 mph hold throttle steady, let off throttle, then add throttle quickly not a ton just a bit. Try that off and on adding a bit more throttle till you get the wheel up it'll surprise you how easy it is. Then you'll get the right amount of throttle and do it whenever you want. I never tried wheeling it as I haven't rode but since October and I can make it wheelie anytime I want doing that. Still need practice on making it look good though lol
@RevoltLarzWolfblade8 жыл бұрын

The first things I did to my '17 FZ-07 when I got it was a fender eliminator, LED blinkers and bar end mirrors under the handlebars. Once those very ugly OEM parts are removed it is a beauty. I also recommend some nice short levers and a black radiator grille. Now all I need to do is to put an Akrapovic Titanium under it and will truly be to my taste.

Chase, just wanted to say I love your videos. You give a lot of great feedback on the bikes you review. I think I've seen just about every first ride you have on here. I've never ridden a motorcycle, so I started doing some research on the CBR500R and came across your video. You had me just about hooked on that Honda...that is until I watched this video on the FZ-07. You sound like a kid who opened a gift on Christmas morning and realized it's exactly what you always wanted! That being said, I'm still torn between the FZ-07 and FZ6R. Both look like great bikes, and while it seems like the FZ6R falls more into the starter category, the FZ-07 seems to have more room to grow. I still have some time before I take the leap, but you have left me with much more clarity and direction. Keep up the great work!

Such a good review! I have the FZ-07 and love it FUN is exactly what this bike is. Its nice to hear you compare it to the 09 because it was an option at the time for many only a grand more.

I sent a thanks to Mountain Motorsports for providing the bike for a review, I just think it's nice for them to know we appreciate it and if I lived somewhere near there I would go see them if I was in the market for a new bike. None the less thanks for the review and comparison to the FZ09 which is what I would look at as an option but now I would take the FZ07 out for a test ride too.

Yoshi exhaust, fender eliminator kit, drag bar, circle bar mirrors, get ride of the turn signals, and lower the front then this bike would look sooooo badass

Awesome review man. I decided to get an FZ-07 instead of a Ninja 300 after watching your other frist ride video and i'm glad i did. It's an awesome beginners bike. I've had mine 5 months and i'm already getting ready to trade it in for an FZ-09.

It's crazy... you were the first motovlogger I watched and sub'd to..and here we are..just picked up the same FZ. Nice review.

You say often that it would be a great starter bike but as someone who rides this bike everyday I wouldn't put a beginner rider on it. That being said it's a hell of a lot of fun to ride! And for any one who's thinking of getting one, invest in a windshield!

It's a very good bike, light, but strong. Torque everywhere. Strong lowend, midrange and top end. Not many bikes are like that while being revhappy. Stock exhaust sucks, but better with another system. Very wheeliehappy too. The front end is too lose for my taste tho. Cant accelerate hard without losing pressure of the front like out of a corner. I fixed that problem by adjusting preload on the rear shock. So now you can ride it harder without being bothered about wheeling/front get loose when you dont want it to be. Wheelies are harder, but still there.

Im an MT 07 driver and Chase, I was jealous when you said that the MT 09 is so good and that 07 is kinda like a little brother of it. And while I was watching this "first" ride i was so happy that you said that you like 07 more than 09 judging by the look and that you want 09 engine in 07 frame. Those were the exact same words I said when I saw 07 and 09 for the first time. Btw Chase, check +FAZER MATT youtube channel for exhaust sound, he has clean pipes. And it's AWESOMEEEEE!!! :D

My fz has been my main source of transport since I bought it 14k miles ago. Puig touring windscreen makes a world of difference. Also removed the stock mirrors and added a CRG lane splitter, that and a fender eliminator. Just need that two bros exhaust next

Hah. Watching your very first review is what got me to finally pull the trigger on this bike a year and a half ago. A year and a half later, I'm still enjoying whipping around canyons and pulling wheelies. I don't intend to replace this bike when I want something else. I intend to just buy a second bike.
