For today's unboxing review we bring you what we believe is the benchmark compact crossover, the BMW X3. Like the 3 Series sedan, BMW simply owns this segment, partially because it was one of the first automakers to launch a compact luxury crossover back in 2003. Since, the X3 has been a huge success and the 2017 model we tested is simply a proven winner. Powered by the silky smooth 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, power is sent to all four wheels via the automaker's xDrive all-wheel drive system. What's cool about the AWD system is that when a wheel slip is detected, it will redistribute power to the wheel with the most traction in milliseconds.
Our tester was also equipped with the $2,700 M Sport Package, which included 20-inch wheels, M steering wheel, aerodynamic kit, and sport seats. With a total of 8.3-inches of ground clearance, the X3 is also something you could take off-road in a limited capacity. On road, how about 0-60 mph in only 5.3 seconds. With all of the luxury you'll need inside, like iDrive and a Harmon Kardon Surround Sound System, it's clear the X3 is the complete package. There's only issue: price. Although the X3 bases at just under $40,000, our nearly fully equipped tester came to around $60,000. Not exactly cheap but the X3 is nonetheless impressive. Enjoy the review!
