Strange why ireland didnt take part. Army Ranger Wing sniper teams on winning both the international and national categories of the Defence Forces International Marksmanship Skills Competition. 17 teams including 2 US Special Operations Forces Teams, 1 Royal Irish Regiment Team, 1 German Armed Forces Team participated in the competition which ran from 26 - 30th June in the Glen of Imaal. The winner of the 'Sgt Steven McColgan Perpetual Trophy' was Sgt David Greene - This trophy is awarded to the person deemed to have contributed the most to the development of marksmanship in the Defence Forces in 2017. Well done to all competitors and to the Infantry Weapons Wing on running a challenging and demanding skills competition. Individual armies use what they issue. If a British sniper blew the brains out of an Afghan sniper you wouldn't say, "the Afghan should have had the same weapon, and weapons training now would you. Plus what weapon would these guys all have to use in the interest of complete fairness? It would have to be a weapon none had ever fired before, so that would have been a terrible competition.

British sniper L96A1 is the most accurate. It can do 1,500 meters average. However the longest shot made was 2,475 meters, which is insane!

What always impresses me is the fact that belgium always ranks pretty high in sniper competitions. Some of the best snipers come from nordic countries like finland, norway, sweden,... probably because they have big places to shoot long distance and hunting iq pretty popular in that country. But in belgium there is only one long range shooting place to train and as a civilian you just cant find a place to shoot out in the open

Honestly, it just depends on who they send to the competitions because as a former US Marine Scout Sniper I have to say that we definitely aren't all big and muscular haha. I was one of the biggest guys in my platoon at 5'10" and roughly 195-210lbs (weight fluctuated between courses and deployments). Also, you can definitely train enough to be big and muscular and have endurance as well. Some of the guys who I knew who had the most insane endurance (faster running and rucking times over distance) were actually more muscular than me. I'd say that across all the units I worked with while I was in, the majority of guys were of the more "average" athletic build though.
