I really appreciate the video man. Your the only person on KZbin that said what size e torx bolt is on the bracket. Everyone else I saw was just hammering on a 12 point socket

Outstanding presentation!!! I used your video today. My Jeep needed brakes at 19500 miles. Cost of northeast winter driving. My rotor set screws would not come out. I had to drill them out. Thank you for posting this.

Put anti seize on the rotor set screw next time. Just a small amount.

2016 Trailhawk, 45K and just done mine. Mine weren't scored just quite badly lipped - seemed like the discs wore down quicker than I would expect. I had quite a bit of corrosion on the hub surface so wire brushed it all flat, otherwise I would have been concerned about excessive run out. Like a lot of others I was surprised by the E20 (wish I'd seen your video before but YT just didn't pull it up in a search) , but the 12 point 16mm socket I had coped easily with no damage. Great video man.

I dread removing the lug bolts. The caps are notorious for messing up. Where I get my tires rotated, they came out one day and said "we can't rotate because whoever did it last time messed some of the caps up" and I said "you guys did it last time", then they went back out and miraculously was able to do the job lol. I've noticed some of my caps wiggle now....

Lol, wow! Don't you love it when it's their fault and you can prove it? It definitely was something that I dreaded too for sure, I've since traded that thing in for a 2019 Ford explorer and I couldn't be happier. I love the extra room and comfort.

great video man! i just did my aunts front brakes on her jeep renegade today, and when i got to the job i said crap.... its and external torx and guess what, i dont own any lol. so i just used a 16mm 12 point socket and luckily it worked without any damage. so if anyone is ever in a pinch a 16mm 12 point socket will work but be careful to not damage the External torx bolt on the caliper bracket! so be sure to pick yourself up a E20 external torx bit :) And also make note of where your wear indicator goes on new pads. take a picture of where it was before you tear it apart so you know what pad goes where and on what side

It's probably a good idea to pick up a set of torx sockets as a lot of car manufactures are going to them.

@@d.s.steele3100 yes absolutley. on my aunts 2019 jeep its e torx in the front and regular torx on the rear with a regular hex so u could use the torx or a 6 point socket

Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones 70000 miles out of one set of pads basically unheard of how did the Jeeps

Did the front brakes on my wife's Renegade at 34k miles, had the same problem. See my video on the Power Stops I installed (D. S. Steele). Let me know if you agree and/or like it. One thing, my rotors came right off (non salted roads). For those that live with salted roads, there are brakes made for snow/salt conditions. Take a look at Permatex orange thread locker, strong as red as easy to remove as blue.

20k miles on my 2018 renegade and yep just started squeeling last night and even worse today. Checked the driver side rotor and it has a decent size groove in the middle. Was a tech in the 90s and early 2k and mopar used crap rotors back then and I guess the still do. Most others manufacturers go 70k+ before needing them.

May I ask why you didn't torque down the E20's and the 14mm bolts? There are specific torque settings set by the manufacturer.
@ChevyMalibu69
@ChevyMalibu69 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm sure there are but to be perfectly honest I've never torqued brakes ever and I've done hundreds with no issues ever for over 22 years , I've never had any loose bolts when I come back to do the job again down the line. I'm in no way saying that you shouldn't though, find the spec if you want and torque the bolts

For folks new to this. Find the proper torque for the bolts. Don’t just wing it with your brakes.

The dealer tells me that the rotors are different sizes for this model on a 2019, is that true? Front breaks. Thanks

I still haven’t had to do brakes on my 2016 Renegade at 90,000 miles. Took it in to do it a year ago and they guy said you don’t need them they still have plenty, look almost new. He said he could do it but would just be taking my money.

Well, that's good for you at least not all their brakes suck. I had the similar situation on my ford went 90k no issues...I'm happy to say though that I've since gotten rid of that glorified fiat and purchased a 2019 ford explorer, I'm so much happier with the ford

hey craig have u ever done the rear brakes i heard for the rear brakes on the renegades that you need a Regular T55 TORX?? any truth to that? Thanks craig!

Nice video, however an E20 Torx socket is an external Torx.. An internal torx would be a T20..

These cheap mopar crap brakes don't last. My mothers trail hawk got 15k, inner brake pads worn to the metal. And she's a easy driver. Factory pads should be 60k+. Definitely not going factory. But like I told her, that's what you get buying crap Chrysler/fiat vehicles, that can't last after bailouts and multiple mergers. great video though! The e20 socket was super helpful

@@ChevyMalibu69 I agree. There is no reason for the grooved discs at 30,000 miles. I was quoted $1500 for front and rear rotors and pads and labor. Fuck that, I'll do it myself!
