To be honest I laughed too when you mentioned German build quality?!!. I had a vw passat which was a complete and utter nightmare. I never went 3 months without expensive issues with it. I got rid of it and bought a 508 as it topped a German TUV index for best in class reliability ahead of the Honda Accord. (Note: passat and A4 were last, in a German index!!) 4 years old now and I can honestly say it was the best car Ive ever bought. Not one single issue yet and im averaging 60mpg+. Its well spec'd, practical, very comfortable and handles well, it may not set the world alight, but looking forward to seeing where Peugeot go with the all new 508 next year, considering the excellent 308 and new 3008.

Amazing review and what an amazing car. I've seen your video about the 308 gti and the 3008 itwas also amazing both the review and the car I really hope that Peugeot will become more popular and the people just forget about the brands history....

To be fair, the new 508 is due next year. But I'll sill still take it over an entry-level A4, which is quiet a boring car without all the techs. Buying a base-spec Premium car, especially for the price of a good high-spec mainstream car, is stupid.

Agreed, although I'm not sure I'd buy the 508. It does feel old now. But buying a base A4 would just be boring! SW

NewMotoring of course, the 508 is old and I would wait for it's replacement or buy something else (except if I have a great deal on it, like my parents just did on a 3 years lease of the pre-facelift Qashqai). But if I have the choice between the 2, I would take the 508 xd

Most Company Car Drivers would choose a BMW 5 Series or a Mercedes E-Class. I read about the New Peugeot 508 In Auto Express and will be a big Improvement

Thanks for commenting again Jamie! Probably, but buying the Peugeot is the lower cost and therefore better option for some. But this version needs a refresh - it does feel old compared to rivals.

As nice as the 508 is, resale and depreciation would be a nightmare! My advice, either buy it to keep it or buy it when it is 5 years old

It really is a boring looking car. Good point about the prices, being the key USP. But the opening statements about the quality of German cars left me a bit cold. Based on personal experience and stats, German cars just aren't particularly reliable. Not bad, and the Germans deserve their success in many ways. But japanese vehicles- including the ones built in the U.K. - seem more reliable.
@newmotoring7 жыл бұрын
Reliability is part of quality, that's fair to say, but generally the actual build quality of German cars is better. Japanese cars are reliable, true, but better build quality? I'm not sure.

The stats seem pretty incontrovertible, and in this case borne out by personal experience, mine and others' I know. Japanese and Korean cars do spend less time at the dealers' than German ones. And I'd say reliability and quality are synonymous.
