Damn these new ones look really good in an evolutionary way. Good job Subaru!

Its got REALLY GREAT VISIBILITY, due to a low beltline, large windows, and narrow A-pillars. Something a lot of other cars just don't have anymore. But I'm going to order a set of four 2" spacers for the springs to raise the ground clearance up for better snow clearance in the winter. Think of that as a 'cheaper' alternative to the Forester.

I actually really like it! The tailights on the hatch back could look a LITTLE better, but other than that, I love the front and the rims look awesome. Would easily have this as a competitor to the Civic/Mazda3 hatchback.

I wouldn't buy one just cuz I think the rear looks ugly. I'd buy one cuz it comes with a cheap reliable awd though. Living in Ontario, awd is a must for our winters unfortunately.

From how the rear styling looks on the Impreza hatchback, he looks better. Overall, the car does nothing for me and is forgettable. The problem with the Impreza is the new Civic. It's too good.

My car feels like it's wobbling around on certain parts of the freeway. Is it because of the sport tune suspention/18in tires on the SPORT trim. Has anybody experiance something similar. Just wondering if it's normal.

Looks like this gen Impreza is more competitive than the previous iteration. All this model needs is an optional engine upgrade to compete with the likes of the Mazda 3. Either fitting the BRZ 2.0 into this (if possible) a larger 2.5 or downsized turbo 1.8? Something to put it into the 180-200hp/180lbs-ft range. Due to it's AWD drain on the engine, the Impreza will need higher specs than the comparable Mazda 3/Jetta to match their performance.

This is a nice car. Will the US ever get Subaru's 1.6 DIT boxer motor? When a mid cycle refresh comes in 3 years this better get a manual and a 2.5L or 1.6 Turbo motor as an option. It seems like such a no brained to bring back the 2.5RS with 200hp.

They should really make a WRX version for this however... I still like the 2015+ Sedan. Lots of room...still handles nice on good summer tires. I got some INVOs on there.... in rain... so good.... and on dry...great as well. They are quiet too. And yikes.... I didn't know the new Impreza's only have 152 HP... That WRX turbo really adds alot of juice I guess.

It's nice, but kind of boring looking. The platform change its nice, but the 2.0 engine feels weak. The Civic with the 1.5 turbo around 170hp seems to be a sweet spot between response & fuel economy. Still I cannot see myself in a vanilla Impreza, even a sport model. However I await anxiously for the WRX & STI (especially with the 2.0 FA turbo) models which hopefully builds upon this improved platform in the future.

Curious to see how you folks think this new Impreza stacks up to the Mazda 3.Ideally I would like to have AWD where I live but I recently test-drove a '17 Mazda3 hatchback 2.5 6spd Grand Touring and walked away THOROUGHLY impressed; it really did feel like I was driving a compact BMW. The new Impreza has a lot to live up to.

I love Subarus but I really wished that they would lower their prices. Here in Mexico they are not often seen on the roads. For a country with mostly sun, makes people wonder why they would even consider AWD. Subaru Mexico needs to make their cars competitive. I want to see an Impreza the same price as a Nissan Sentra

I really like the new design here., more Euro inspired. Have been a fan of Subys "All Wheel Drive" systems for years but the Price Point / Power / & MPG's are severely lacking, for this segment. @sherlock tang...You are right, CVT is outdated ...Mazda is slowing dominating this car segment with it's 40MPG and 185HP.....and their price point for their options...When Subaru can measure up I'll consider buying one..hopefully soon..
@naturallyaspirated9391
@naturallyaspirated9391 7 жыл бұрын
No, you can either get 185 hp or 40 mpg, but not both. The 2.0 that delivers 40 mpg puts out 155 hp, which is only more than this, and this car can get up to 38 mpg, which is not that far off.

We purchased the 2018 base trim hatchback with the CVT. This was our first experience with Subaru. I have 3 major zonks for this car. My advice, DO NOT PURCHASE A BASE TRIM IMPREZA. Our 2018 base trim impreza comes with steel wheels and hubcaps. In 68,000 miles, we have lost 12 hubcaps. When it came time to replace the tires, we had to shell out a bunch of coin to replace those steel wheels and hubcaps. To the point that we could not afford the need to spend $800 dollars to have the spark plugs replaced. The other zonk is a biggee. That very weak 2.0 engine, does not produce enough power. It has a weak 152 hp. Subaru at minimum, should at least offer the 2.5 engine. That would give the Impreza another 30 hp at 182hp. 30 more horses would do wonders with this car. I now own another Impreza. Through my knowledge of purchasing the 2018 Impreza, I purchased a 2022 PREMIUM trim sedan. The sedan, because it is $500 cheaper than the hatchback. Snd still owning the 2018 hatchback, I do not require the extra room. And with the PREMIUM trim, we have aluminum wheels. Don’t have to worry about losing the hubcaps. However, Subaru still earns the zonk on that same gutless 2.0 engine. Now, the good news. We own another Subaru that we purchased new. It is a 2020 Subaru PREMIUM trim Forester. Congratulations SUBARU. You finally did something right. We have a very nice 2.5 engine. And we purchased the package 15 with this vehicle. Do we have the power lift gate. This vehicle, is perfect. Not a single zonk. Now. GET BUSY AND FIX THE SHORT COMINGS IF THE IMPREZA

Corollas are not better handling, have less cargo, not sporty, no turbo, boring looks. BUT Corollas have reliable CVT, no oil leaks, no oil burning, no gas diluting oil, no leaky valve seals and head gaskets, no expensive repairs just after warranty expiration. I guess the buyer has to prioritize whether the driving experience is worth the sacrificing of reliability.

A 6 speed manual on a 2litre stock family car is an overkill. It neither improves your 0-100km/h time nor saves you fuel. In fact, it worse for both in a normal family car. I certainly wouldn't want that on my Impreza 2.0i. On an Outback 3.6l however, it'll make sense due to a wider torque curve and higher top-speed. Having said that, a 6 speed manual will make a 2litre light-weight sports car (like a Lotus) hit 100km/h faster or make heavier car with a high power turbo hit 100 faster, like an STI.

Eric Tay Are you sure about that? Six speeds will definitely help with your fuel economy on a long motorway run or even at a constant 50mph.

Yes Zerofightervi. Let's use an example. Imagine you have a 1.3 ton family sedan with a 100HP 1.6l petrol engine. It's top speed is 170km/h. With a torque of less than 100nm and with a 6-speed manual, the first gear will top out at 20km/h and it'll take 1 second to reach it. Moving up the gear ratio and assuming you are quick in shifting at 0.4second, the car will start to struggle to reach 100km/h on the 3rd gear and you most likely have to hit the 4th gear. On a 5 speed manual, the first gear will hit 25 km/h and take 1 second to reach it. It will definitely be able to hit 100km/h on the third gear and I'd only have to change gear twice, saving 0.4second. On the higher gears, it's a hassle to switch gear from 5th to 6th when cruising at 110-170km/h when a single 5th gear will suffice. Sure it'll take longer for a 5MT to hit topspeed but it's only 170km/h. On a sports car like the Lotus Elise, it's a different story. Because the chassis is so light, the power/weight ratio is far superior to a 1.6l sedan so it makes sense to have a closer gear spacing to maximise the torque, hence acceleration. Plus the 1.8-2l engine can push it to 240km/h with a 0-100 at around 5 second so it makes sense to pair it with a 6MT. On a 1.5 ton Turbo STI with 320HP and 300Nm torque, it is NECESSARY because the STI can hit 100km/h in 4 second and a 5MT will be the limiting factor for a GOOD driver. An average driver will have similar 0-100 due to a slow shift timing. For a family car, more shift means more power loss. When cruising at 110km/h, both 5MT and 6MT will have similar top gear ratio so FC will be similar. I'd say a 5% difference. For performance car with top speed at 280km/h, you'd definitely need that 6th gear to go above 160km/h. I haven't even discuss how the engine RPM will affect the torque curve and 0-100 timing but that's way beyond a YT chat. ;)

Eric Tay You have put across a very informative reply, but I still don't agree with you. It's all about engine speed, in the real world you wouldn't be using all available engine revs you'd be more reliant on torque, which comes in at low rpm. So to use that you need more gears. 6 speeds is not really necessary in cars like a VW Up! or Hyundai i10 because they would generally but used in city centres. Anything larger that is more likely to do motorway mileage needs a 6 speed, 6th gear is often a much higher ratio to eek every last mpg possible from a under worked engine.
