Funny coincidence. I am now the owner of this Toyota. And the same cv axle both boots are ripped🫤. I went to KZbin to see how hard this would be to replace. To find a video of the truck I recently purchased👍🏼 if there is anything else you did or I should know please let me know! Thanks

Have a similar situation with mine except its the boot by the wheel. Toyota replaced my cv axle because it was clanking pretty bad at turns. After I got my truck back, the boot tore the next day. Took it back to toyota and they gave me the same excuse " trucks too lifted, its gonna keep tearing it at turns". So I gotta replace mine but I'm thinking of getting a longer boot from kar tek. Great vid, very helpful 👍.

That's a bummer. My local dealership was not cool about my lift even thought I'm within spec. Are you running a diff drop? That might help too. There is a boot stretch mod for 3rd Gen 4Runners. Maybe something like that could be applied to the Tundra.

Great video, I’m in the process of rebooting the axle on my Sequoia. Needed the step by step on those pesky ball bearings. More of a pain then I had anticipated. Great looking Tundra.

Thanks for the feedback. It was a tricky process getting it all back together. Truck has been driven a lot since this video and everything is holding up nicely. Good luck with your axle reboot!

Did you have to service the differential with oil?
@goatsinapond3 жыл бұрын
When I pulled the CV axle out the differential oil didn't leak so I didn't add any oil. The way I had the vehicle jacked up kept the oil in.
@Ponyboy1611 Жыл бұрын
Hey bro, what did you do when the oil or something came out when you take the CV axle out. The carrier assembly?
@goatsinapond Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for commenting. There was barely any gear oil that came out of the differential. As far as I recall it was just a tiny drip. I'm guessing because I had the vehicle jacked up on the passenger side, it kept it from dripping too much. The oil pan below was full of engine oil from an oil change on a different vehicle. That being said, if you lose a lot of gear oil doing this repair, you'll want to top off the differential with the proper gear oil.

What pliers did you use for the clamps? Can you post a link to some?

These are the ones I use: amzn.to/3BIzK6C They have worked fine for multiple projects now.

Did you have to get an alignment done afterwards?
@goatsinapond3 жыл бұрын
I didn't. You don't move anything that messes up the alignment when doing this job.

DUDE! That place is local to me, right next to Huckaby's. You in the Fayette/Spalding area? Also, for what it's worth how much lift you got up front? Diff drop? "Your balls are gonna drop" hahahaha

That's right. I sell cars at the The Car Guys. I'm running a 3 inch lift in the font with diff drop.

@@jakeestrada1239 No, but you do need a special tool to clamp them correctly. Just cost you some extra $$$.

Got a question for you all. I have a 2017 Tundra, and ive been having some noise over bumps from the front end. Ive looked at everything up there and replaced breaks. The drivers side CV shaft on the inner housing, i can move the housing up and down a fair bit, and it makes a clanking noise - cant move the inner passenger side at all. Is this normal or potential issue. When i talk about moving the housing up and down, i know there is horizontal movement in the cv shaft which is normal. I have replaced the CV shaft, noise is still there, and i believe its worse now. The CV shaft is fully inserted in the housing as it contacts the diff it attaches too. Second question, when i pulled the inner seal on the diff that contacts the CV shaft, there was an o-ring that came out, questioning whether i put it back correctly. Thank you for any help.

Front end noises are hard to track down. I had a "popping" sound that would randomly happen when turning my 4runner. It wasn't the same as the CV axle clicking when it's going bad. I was never able to track it down. That up and down play is potentially concerning. There is a needle bearing in the differential that can wear out. It's common on lifted vehicles. Is yours lifted? I had a similar issue with my 4Runner that was experienced as a lot of vibration when accelerating. So not quite the same as what you are experiencing. Here is a link to the video I made replacing that needle bearing in the 4Runner kzbin.info/www/bejne/imfbna1umrGcjsUsi=borL-eeY44CUN6Cx I have also had noise from loose pieces of plastic rattling around. This happened in my wife's Nissan Rogue. Also, a upper or lower ball joint going bad? Unlikely, on a 2017.
@jeremyking71905 ай бұрын
@@goatsinapond this is exactly my problem, thank you, your video was great. The needle bearing you took out had splines in it, the replacement was smooth - why the difference, pretty strange - i did notice my splines in needle bearing didnt engage with the splines in the cv axle, strange they would make it that way. thanks again.
