Thank you for posting this. Will be taking this on in a few weeks since I’m replacing many front end suspension parts on my 1st Gen Sequoia. I’m nervous, but your video will be my guide 🫡

Hello! I am not sure if you have started on your project. The clamps may look similar but they are not. They each have their sizes in MM stamped on them. Be sure to note which size goes with what boot. I hope it helps. I rebuilt my 2002 Tundra front end and it drives like new again. I have 535K miles on it now.

Hello there, Thank you for the note. I did take note of this when I pulled the axles apart. Those little details that you have to watch out for. Thank you for the note and I’m sure it will help others when they take this on. Be safe and happy wrenching 🫡

I did exactly as the video entails. However I can't sling or get the knuckle and ball joint to align. 2001 Toyota Sequoia 4wd limited.

sometimes it helps to jack up the LCA up till you get a little pressure on the knuckle. Than just wiggle the knuckle till the ball joint lines up.

Perfect timing. I was already planning on doing this today. Question though. Only my outer boots are torn, the inners are high angle boots from CVJ. Is there a way to only remove the outer joint, or is the only way to disassemble the inner joint? I don't have replacement clamps for the inner.
@Wonger559
@Wonger559 Жыл бұрын
The inner has to come off to get the boots out. You can buy replacement clamps. There is the size on the clamps. I have even been able to save the clamps if you are careful with removing them.

Awesome, I really need to to this. But I wondering if it’s too late for just a boot and grease replacement. Makes some awful noise, but only in four-wheel-drive.
@Wonger559

take it apart and see. if there is no rust and no grease, it might just be noise from no grease

It should be similar. Odd you would need to do the rears as they really don't see much wear since they are not steer axles

@@Wonger559 Yes sir. It's a mild bummer. I ripped a boot somehow and I allowed a shop to talk me into aftermarket half axle. 1 year later... it's fine around town but there is a little play in it when I grab and twist with my hand. Maybe a 32nd of an inch? Just enough to wiggle it. I "think" i can feel it when under load... towing uphill my 3500lb trailer. I could probably leave it alone? If I do replace it I would rather watch 100 youTUbe vids and gather info... fresh seal, toyota axle, proper torque settings, top off diff. Oh, and the dealer wants $1300 dollars! Thoughts?

@@Wonger559 Yes sir. I managed to tear a rear boot. I let my local shop talk me into an aftermarket axle. Year later... it's fine around town but when I'm pulling my 3500lb trailer up a hill... I at least think I can feel a little vibration. When I grab the after market axle turn/wiggle it about a 32 of an inch? just enough to make me sad. I'm trying to decide if it's worth replacing. What do you think boss? Wait till it gets worse? or put a Toyoter axle in there?
@Wonger559
@Wonger559 9 ай бұрын
@@js887744 They should have a little play in them. The vibration could just be your driveshaft u joints. Look into shooting some grease into them. I would keep and eye on it and see if it gets worst.

Hi, do you think that the seal on the gear box needs to be changed for peace of mind when doing this job? Will the seal last very long?
@Wonger559
@Wonger559 Жыл бұрын
I personally have never had to replace the diff axle seal when doing this job. If it wasn’t leaking before. It won’t leak afterwards as long as you take out and reinstall axle without damaging it.

Usually happens when the cv boots is old and been at stock height all it’s life. Pretty common to have to replace the boots after a lift so they will wear in a new pattern.

Do you recommend buying oem toyota cv axles or will a good aftermarket be okay? My tundra is leveled in the front and some shops have told me I need extended axles even thought it's only like a 1-2" lift. Not sure if they mean high angle cv boot axles though.
