@homelander918 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, by the way, at that time (and maybe even now), Eddie Hall was/is a bit stronger than Thor in shoulder press (this Viking press is similar, despite they use legs, but same as log lift...), so if Eddie Hall has a higher maximum, it's obvious it can do more reps at a lower weight (if in shape with full power & no injury which could lower the performance) , that's physics.

Vikings were present in England for 3 centuries, at various point much of England was Viking territory (Danelaw and during Cnuts reign), four Kings of England were Viking (Sweyn Forkbeard, Cnut the Great, Harald Harefoot and Harthacnut). I'm not saying it makes up a large part of the English gene-pool but there is certainly Viking DNA in England. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_activity_in_the_British_Isles en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_expansion

Xol • It's hard to see what the issue was. He was penalized for something called "double dipping." Apparently he "double dipped his knees." I have no idea what that means. @@warbastard01 Are you accusing me of not knowing what double dipping is? As if it's a crime to not know that? I could guess that it means he dipped into his knees near the top of the lift in order to press the weight. Did I see him do that? Well, on the last lift he certainly struggled near the top. He stopped, slightly leaned forward on his knees and pressed. To me, it looked borderline but I think I would have given him the lift. Would it have changed the outcome of the contest? No. I don't believe it would have. All of this was a complete non event while it was occurring and rightly so. Nothing controversial about the event whatsoever. Thor acted like a childish diva.

I like Thor as an athlete and as a good family guy now that you see him more on KZbin etc but there was a time, around 2017-18 that he had a reputation for unsportsmanlike behaviour. I seem to remember this Viking press against Eddie and also a deadlift event against Brian Shaw. The reality was that he lacked the static strength to compete with Shaw, Hall and Zavickas for about 5 years or so in the mid 2010's. Now, he is dominant though and he deserves all the accolades that he has earned.

Best comment so far. I am a thor fan but gotta admit it is thor who started the beef. But Eddie continued in so many videos with bitching about "do the five o one" and then got mad when thor HAD to do it this way since it was a planned event, cancelled by corona and made Eddie look like a dwarf with this easy lift. So I can understand why thor lost his cool and called eddie out. And the money is there too haha

1:21, really doesn't look like double dipping in slow mo... you can see his knees were bent the whole way after the initial push and don't bend again when pressing, they just lock out a bit late and he leans forward.
@99999george
@99999george 4 жыл бұрын
It was a bit harsh but rules are rules. His knees needed to be locked out before his heels hit the ground. By that point his elbows were already locked out overhead so the last portion of the rep was done entirely by his quads which makes the rep a lot easier. It's a bit like a clean and jerk, no one fails the rep after locking it out overhead because it isn't hard to get out of a half lunge.

@@terrya8989 Lasha's job is to be really good at one lift (overhead), but strongman is more "overal" test of strengh. Weightlifting also masters techniques that most strongmen don't need to press 200kg

I'm not an expert, I've only recently been watching these kind of videos on KZbin. In all the videos Eddie seems to have great form and show massive strength, and Thor seems all over the place. This as an example..

It's definitely more difficult for Thor to have perfect form given his height but that's a tradeoff he has to live with for being the size he is

Eddie is tall, but he was so stiff nothing could move him while overhead pressing. 1,89m 190kg is really, really heavy.

No doubt whatsoever that Eddie was the strongest that year. I just want to state that his height also gave him an advantage in the press. I dont believe this made it unfair, but it definitely was an aspect that worked in his favor.

I’ve seen several videos discussing this. He received several warnings. I the video that that talks about the debriefing Thor even gets the Reff to review his technique. Eddie has this in the bag. Thor was struggling Eddie could’ve kept going. Look at their composites and forms as they do the perform the reps.

Watching this again all this time later and Thor's last rep looks fine - he's so tall it just changes his technique. Meanwhile, all those saying Eddie had 16, 17... 20 reps in the tank. No he did not. He ground out that last one. Can totally see why Thor was a bit miffed. Shame it all ended in this stupid rivalry and fight.
