In this video I will do an oil change on a 2020 Ford F150 with the Gen 3 5.0L V8 engine. This truck is my father's personal truck. Just got it brand new back in March 2020 and now has 2,500 miles on it. We decided to switch the truck over to Amsoil Signature Series as it has the best performance, protection and cost effectiveness of any oil on the market. These engines take 8.8 qts of 5w-20 oil. These Amsoil Signature Series exceeds all of the Ford specifications. Being it was the first time we have done an oil change on the truck, we got to run into all of the quirks and potential problems, such as the drain plug placement and the location of the sway bar when draining the oil.... just watch and see for yourself so you somewhat know what to expect.

I think ima swap to amsoil as well too see if it helps with the oil consumption. If I change the oil myself I wonder if that would hurt me on trade in value down the road? Being there's no paper work showing oil changes

Amsoil has a section that you can input and track your own maintenance as well as print it if need be. Go to this link to become a preferred customer to get 25 percent off too! I've seen it help with oil consumption in most cases and eliminate it completely in others. Really just depends why the engine is consuming oil. www.amsoil.com/offers/pc/?zo=5489415

I've been using Amsoil signature Series since 2010 on my Harley Fatboy. The Syn3 that Harley advised didn't seem to start as fast and I could hear ticking sound. One of the old timers at Harley said I would try Amsoil, so I did and the bike started quicker and the ticking was gone. I went to a local parts store and bought 5 qts of Amsoil Signature Series for my Jeep. Engine was quiet and gas mileage improved. Been using Amsoil ever since. I order my Amsoil from a Amsoil dealer. We now own 2 New Jeeps and both will get Amsoil signatures series oil changes. Great Video! John

I am really OCD about Oil Changes in my 2018 5.0 F150. Initial crank after an oil change. I floor the accelerator pedal and crank the engine a few times to get the oil pressure up prior to starting it. Probably overkill, but it's what I do. (Engine will not start if gas pedal is floored)

So you are using 5w20? I'm sure you're aware of all the back and forth over 20 vs 30. Living in south florida I see the benefits of using 30 and also the reason ford switched to 20. I also read that a heavier oil may mess with phasers or have a harder time reaching some of the tighter/narrow parts of the engine. What are your thoughts?
@THEDriverMod_

10 points higher isn't going to do much at the end of the day in my opinion. I ran 0w30 on my Mustang 5.0 and it was great. My father lives in Ohio, the 20wt will be perfectly fine for the winter but it the summers it will not hurt to go back to a 30wt. I live in north Orlando so I know what you mean. I would run a 30et down here year round. Hope that answers your question!

Is it really OK to use full synthetic vs synthetic blend as what ford recommended? Why did you change the oil at 2500 miles, is it not quite early? Thanks.
@THEDriverMod_
@THEDriverMod_ 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question! This is Amsoil Signature series. It is fully synthetic which is a step above full synthetic and it is extremely okay to use a fully synthetic over a blend that is recommended. Aslong as the oil meets the manufacturer specs, then its okay to use. This oil has the ford spec printed right on the label so it was okay to use. We changed it at 2500 as a break in change. So not only did we get rid of the majority of the break in debris out, we also went from a synthic blend to Amsoils Signature series which can go 15k miles no problem and is rated for 25k on a naturally aspirated engine like this one. So its gonna save you alot of money on just oil changes, plus less frequently changing the oil is a nice benefit as well. You are also getting a more stable oil at high temps, an oil the flows better at cooler temps and even with the long drain interval, your are not losing protection, durability, reliabilty or performance. Highly recommend their products.

I just want to cut open the filter and look inside.(yes I have and oil filter cutter) I also installed two oil filter magnets before I drove her off the lot. Should have seen the looks I got when I crawled underneath when I put them on. I also want all the break in oil out and the assembly lube. I've been using Amsoil for over 25 years never had a problem with engine wear or using oil.

Great video, and really cool that you respond to each comment. I assume you’re a Ford Tech by the depth of your knowledge in your responses. Question for you, I have a 2018 F150 5.0. It’s actually my third Coyote F150, but my first with the GEN III changes which includes the PTWA plasma process on the block instead of steel liners and, of course, the 10R80 transmission. I do most of the work on my own vehicles, and did notice above-normal oil consumption on my last change. (I run full synthetic and change every 5000 miles). Researched the issue in depth, and decided to replace PCV valve and switch to longer dipstick per TSB 19-2365. Obviously, couldn’t do the PCM reflash part of the TSB at home, but so far it looks like PCV change has worked as oil consumption (or lack thereof) has returned to normal. You mentioned LSPI as the expected cause of high oil consumption, but I have not heard of that until now. My reading suggested excessive vacuum as the culprit. If I run into the oil consumption problem again (hope I don’t), is TSB 19-2365 worth having done, or is there another fix I should be looking at?
@THEDriverMod_
@THEDriverMod_ 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the TSB is worth having done. Another side effect of having low rpms is the increased duration period of a strong amount of vacuum is present in the manifold. The 10 speed keeps the rpms severely low unless you are basically over 65 or 70 percent throttle so with that much vacuum you are bound draw some oil vapors up to the negative pressure. As far as LSPI goes, certain oils promote it more depending on their make up and there for are consumed in the process because the oil vapors are entering the cylinder. The Amsoil featured in the video was 100 percent effective in eliminating LSPI, not 95.... not 98, but 100 percent.

@THEDriverMod_
@THEDriverMod_ 3 жыл бұрын
Amsoil will always benefit any vehicle it is used in so I would recommend it whether you hear a difference or not. As far as your concerns go, depending on the type of ticking you are hearing, it my be the normal direct injection fuel pump/injector noise. As far as consumption goes, depending on why the vehicle is consuming oil, it is possible a higher quality lubricant like amsoil can make a difference and reduce the consumption depending on why the vehicle is consuming oil in the first place. LSPI is the number one cause now of oil consumption and with the 10 speed in these new trucks keeping the rpms soo low, we are seeing that as the major cause in why newer vehicles are having consumption issues. Amsoil prevented LSPI 100 percent effective.

When running the amsoil about every 14-15k miles. It's rated for 15k miles under severe service which the truck sees alotnof with towing and hauling and the oil holds up amazingly well. If you're using Motorcraft synthetic blend, based on my experience at the dealershit I would change thatbevery 2500-3k and the full synthetic youncan get away with about 5k. Using either will result in high maintenance costs because you are not only doing more oil changes which is annoying honeslty, but they don't protect nearly as well as Amsoil does.

@THEDriverMod_

We decided to do this one at 2500 miles. This got the lower quality grade factory oil out of the truck and upgrading to Amsoil while also being a long enough time to get a good engine break in and get as much break in material out as possible.

That's totally your call. Not the end of the world if you don't. Engine flushes are designed to attack, breakdown and remove deposits. This engine only had 2500 miles at the time of this oil change so I can't imagine too many deposits were present

No issues on the truck featured in the video. Try running the Amsoil as mentioned, its superior quality and resistance to vaporize and be consumed makes it ideal for the higher compression engines like the gen 3 coyote v8 in the new f150s. @@jaygon2877 the blue truck in the video is not burning any oil. Amsoil provides 100 percent protection against LSPI (low speed pre ignition) which is what we are seeing at the Ford dealership I work at because the 10 speed keeps the rpms soo low even in high load situations. Non of the trucks we use Amsoil in have consumption issues. If you're burning oil you might as well give Amsoil a try, if it doesn't fix it then you are guaranteed to have some sort major issue.
