2018 and Up Ram Promaster Exterior Sliding Door Handle Assembly R&R

This video is a tutorial on how to remove and replace the exterior sliding door handle assembly on a 2018 and up Ram ProMaster. This repair is being performed to fix the problem of the interior handle not unlatching the door when it's in the locked open position. You can use this video as a reference of how to remove the cable linkage as well. If you're having trouble with the linkage cables when taking them out or putting them back in use a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the wire.

Thank you, this was helpful. The trick to taking off that 4th nut is to remove the inside door handle assembly to expose it. It saved me a lot of time and some bruised knuckles.

Thanks for your post. I couldn’t figure out what cable went where. For anyone interested the inside handle covers the upper nut. Definitely have a long magnet to retrieve any dropped hardware. I removed all 4 nuts with a socket on a long extension. 1/4” deep well 10mm and a ratchet worked great except for my fumble fingers dropping 2 nuts down into the door. Not a hard job but definitely pay close attention to the cable placement on the handle. After 2 attempts and finally watching this video I got it changed successfully.

Hey brother. Any advice for getting my 2017 3500 PM Door Open? Back latch was not working but I could hit the door and give a quick pop in the outside latch to open it up, but yesterday it stopped working from the inside latch also?!

Where did you order that new handle from? I have ordered 3 now and cannot get the right one. the new ones I've ordered don't have that blue connector on it and the existing yellow cable will not connect into it.

I have the opposite problem. My exterior handle won't unlatch the door, and the interior lever does. Any guess on issue there? I've already had to replace the handle assembly once about 1.5 years ago, for another issue... Seems like this door is an achilles heel for this vehicle (2019)

I’m having this issue too. My outside handle doesn’t work but the interior one works just fine. Did you find a fix?

I did. It's the upper rear assembly. The cable was broken, but unfortunately you have to buy the cable and the entire assembly. I don't know the part number, as I'm not near the Van until another month. @@aleerussell3777

The interesting thing for mine is that if I open the door from the inside it will then open from the outside… It seems like something is sticking or something…. I’m going crazy with how frustrating it is to not work

@@aleerussell3777 I've got the same issue, close the side door, lock the van, when I unlock the van the side door won't open from the outside but when I open it from the inside the outside handle works until I lock the van and it's the same as before, strange, mines a Boxer 2017.
