I know a lot of people hate on new Models when they come out, but let me tell ya my JL Rubicon is way more than my JK ever was. I also have a CJ, which is another league, but for an everyday vehicle, and one that I off road in it's pretty amazing. Way more capable than any previous Wrangler before it too.

Jeeps arent for everyone but once you have one its hard to go back to a normal automobile full time when you really see what they can do. If you frequently drive on rough terrain, love to off road or even if you live somewhere where theres tons of snow and crumbling infrastructure its an ideal "get through anything" vehicle to have while being able to cruise with the top off in the summer. Not many vehicles can do all of that. Im a jeep owner (on my second jeep wrangler now and will probably buy another when its advantageous to) but Just wanted to stop and say good job with this review! Very well done, thorough and professional. You outdid most of the supposed professional car review guys on here! Keep up the good work!

This all-new Wrangler has come a LONG way, canonlybeme4life. When the Rubicon drives quiet and smooth and comes with all the fancy appointments that you'd expect in a Grand Cherokee, it changes things. 2sheets to the wind its not new, this diesel has been around a long time.
@OfficialUSKRprogram6 жыл бұрын
Although I really want a Diesel rubicon, I have my doubts about it's practicality. One of the best features I've used going offroad on steep descents is the gasoline engine's vacuum when on 4 low allowing the vehicle to come down on it's own without the use of brakes. Diesel engines have nothing between the air intake and the cylinders, so vacuum has to be applied via a jake brake when needed, and even then jake brakes only affect half of the cylinders, and usually only do it's work at higher RPMs. But sure, the advantage of running diesel among other thing is that if you crash and flip upside down, and pierced the gas tank, it won't be highly volatile gasoline dripping on you and your friends, it'll be oily sticky diesel that'll make your clothes stink.

My JK vs JL comparison (for me, a black 2-door Rubicon with tan soft top) My JL pros -possibly the new 2.0 engine (I also like the Pentastar) -8 speed transmission (much better than JK transmission) -quicker throttle response -soft top without ‘cross bar’ -soft top no zippers -quieter soft top -body color roll bar -flat horizontal dash -lighter/aerodynamic tweaks = better MPG -real metal interior detail -real hardware (not faux bolts) interior -more inputs and other interior conveniences -air vents for cooling under hood -more rake in windshield (think rock damage) -doors stay opened, and close better -cabin is slightly longer -doors remove easier/faster -telescopic adjusting steering wheel -bigger storage tub -stronger and lighter tailgate -better hood latches -easier drain plug access (without needing to move carpet) -larger cup holders My JL cons -auto start/stop (I’m not sure how to disable it) -the faux vents on hood -the bumpers (front and back) -front running lights on fender flare -too much digital visual “noise” on dash (me like simple) -rear camera (I know I can take it off - and I will when I remove spare and relocate license plate) -no hard drive in radio to store music (I like that in the 430 in JK) -smaller glove compartment

DAYUMN! This new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is a BEAST! 285 Horsepower?! It is still too heavy in my opinion but it is lighter than the old JK platform. That thing is an off-road Cadillac compared to my old 1999 Wrangler TJ in Carolina Blue. My '99 was only 3250 lbs. Still, a Wrangler that makes it to 60 MPH in 7 seconds? That is amazing!

AutoAcademics no problem. Only a question: how much fast is on acceleration?
@AutoAcademics6 жыл бұрын
The 2018 automatic with the 3.6L reaches 60 mph in about 6.9 seconds, however, acceleration is something that Chris was not impressed with on our manual Rubicon tester. It definitely did not feel like sub-7 seconds. The first 2 or 3 gears are very short, not allowing for much speed to be gained, and 5th and 6th gears were very tall, presumably for fuel economy, but requiring us to shift down to 4th if we wanted to pass anything on the highway. We hope this helps, Ms89giogio.

Reasons TO buy a wrangler- EVERYTHING ELSE!!!!!

start/stop, avg savings 1-2mpg in urban driving, that means $125-150 a year max. avg cost to replace a burnt out starter $500-$800... net result, 1 more annoying nanny feature to turn off every time you start your car. And don't get me started on cylinder deactivation... can we just stop trying to cater to people who want giant cars but can't afford to fill them?

Can't say they are overpriced, as they can't make enough of them; but the $10k premium over a zr2 (that can tow and haul more things) lends itself too close to a raptor for me to want. I freakin love the JL, but it keeps getting more expensive and, well, I don't need to rock crawl. The zr2 and raptor both have auto 4wd systems for added versatility, like the Sahara, and can lock the rear axle in 2wd.

Love the jeep. But not the price. $30k is much more reasonable.

IC engines are going to be gone by 2025. I fugure they are jacking the prices right before the fall and switch over. I would not buy IC engine at this point. You will have a hard time selling them and fixing them in the next 10 years ...Remember what you dont know will get you ,, Not what you already know...Look outside the box friend.

You're not going to have a hard time selling or fixing your IC vehicle in the next 10 years. Maybe in 30-50, but not 10. They are over 99% of all the vehicles on the road. Do you really think that number is going to reverse in just 10 years? Not gonna happen.

Great real life review Auto Academics. My good friend's boyfriend has a Rubicon with a lift package and brush guards. I don't know how Bree (my friend) gets in/out of that thing in a dress without showing ALL her business. I'm a girlie girl who drives European cars but there is something about this Jeep that is really HOT! I can't believe he paid $50k for that but it is a very capable vehicle. One time I asked to tag along with him to this offroad course in West Virginia that he frequents. It was amazing watching him in action. He's really good at handling the most difficult rated course. I'm just glad that he talked me out of taking my Autobiography out on the course. I saw a couple of dented frames. 😞

Celeste Hearn First and foremost, thank you for your comments, Celeste Hearn. We truly appreciate them. You're correct, Raymond jones. All cars are getting expensive and it could be argued that vehicles such as this (and your) Rubicon, with the specialty equipment installed, are worth every penny. Chris definitely became a believer once he got it out on the trails. That Rubicon handled everything and Chris was more worried about scratching it than getting stuck somewhere. There are a few out there, but most people tend to go for the Unlimited, Golden Retriever. We were surprised when Jeep sent us this one. Thanks for watching!

AutoAcademics Not a problem I just hope Jeep doesn’t get rid of the 2 door Jeep
@AutoAcademics6 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, they won't, Golden Retriever. Right now it seems Jeep is still in the mindset of expanding the lineup with the new pickup arriving shortly, but only time will tell.

Most people buy the 4 door, but you can custom order a 2 door in any trim.

If i had the money i'd buy it this moment.

I’m sorry. I thought you said 47k for a 2 door rubicon now days?
@AutoAcademics6 жыл бұрын
Sure did, Bradley Beyer. But everything's expensive nowadays and this is a really good off-road performance-focused vehicle. Once we likened it to Ford Raptors and Camaro ZL-1s, it's price began to make more sense. We appreciate your comments and thanks for watching!

It's funny. Rarely do you get through 10 comments before the "money" issue is raised. Buy what you want, up to what you can afford. Jealously is a b_tch. If you have the money up front, buy the Rubicon. You WILL NOT buy a sport and then mod it up to a Rubicon for the same or less money as the Rubicon itself. Otherwise, just enjoy the vids and comments and let's dispense with the irrelevant money talk.

What was your overall verdict? I’m looking at using a wrangler for occasional commuting and 7-10 hour drives from Atlanta, may need to do some towing about 2k lbs
@AutoAcademics6 жыл бұрын
As you know, gghostrrider, practically EVERYONE drives a Wrangler in the Atlanta area, but we think the Rubicon may be a bit hardcore for 7-10 hour drives. The ride is smooth and relatively quiet, but there's a bit more movement in the steering and suspension than we prefer for long highway duty. If you take one out for a test drive, you'll notice what we're referring to almost immediately, as it took Chris a day or so to get used to it. A lot of that was due to the suspension tuning and 33" tires. For shorter commutes or a 2nd (or 3rd) vehicle, it would be great. If you don't think that will bother you, then you'll be fine and it will definitely tow that 2000 lbs with ease. The Unlimited would add a bit more practicality to the vehicle with the additional rear doors. It was challenging for small kids to climb in back. Chris said if his stable were big enough and money were no object, he'd buy one in a second. Unfortunately for him, it isn't. Hope this helps!

Kids? My daughters grew up in my '98. Pre Unlimited 4 doors. This is why you get a soft top. Put car seats in and forget about it until they get too big for them. Otherwise, pick em up, drop em in from the back of the jeep, buckle em up and watch them smile all the way to the destination.

AutoAcademics Thant you for replying. I thought it was just because I had been looking at Wranglers that I noticed so many in Atlanta! It’s crazy, they’re everywhere! I know this video is about the Rubicon 2dr, but I’m more interested in the Unlimited, Sahara or Sport S trim. Thanks again for the great video and the reply.

It's to much money, but i do like it.

They are very pricey, Ken Scialoia, but they are probably the best Jeeps ever made. We aren't necessarily Jeep people, but we loved our time with this one. Thanks for watching!

Wrangler is still a no frills vehicle... all the options are standard on most cars and then some :) You are buying the brand/experience.. what the apple guys would say to justify their prices.

We thought about it, Anthony Webb, but it would have been a bit too much work for the time and the weather. Even taking just the front Freedom panels had pollen and dust from the trails covering the interior. Plus, we didn't really have any place to put it once we took it off. We appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching!

is there ANYONE who doesn't absolutely hate start/stop? why are they still putting this in vehicles!? (besides working to avoid the EPA regulations)
