What a machine. Ive owned my 2019 E400d Premium Plus for a year now. Bought it from Mercedes of Eastbourne. Best car I have ever owned. 700nm of torque is unbelievable. 0 to 60 time 4.9 secs........ worries 911's......lol:) Absolute luxury... Air ride, so really smooth

Can you send me exhaust sound haha. I'm looking for same car. With some tuning you can get out extra 58hp and 108nM of torque...

I had a E220d and came across the E400d last year. Looking at the specs I had come to a similar conclusion that it is the thinking mans AMG. Hopefully they remain a bit of a secret gem though to keep the prices down.

I have had my E400d Estate for 2 years now, and owned it from new. It’s only done 9000 miles largely due to Covid lockdowns . It is an absolutely phenomenal machine. Quiet, very, very fast indeed and economical, with so much torque. And so sure footed with its 4Matic technology. This car really is a sleeper and is capable of surprising a lot of ‘performance’ cars. And indeed dispatching them. Golf Rs and lesser Boxsters are easy meat in a straight line. And whilst no roller skate, the car is surprisingly wieldy on back roads. I am lucky enough to also own a Porsche 911 (991.2) Turbo, and my E400d actually impresses me more in many ways. I absolutely love this car.

This engine is amazing, it's actually even more sophisticated than the vw-porsche 4.1 V8 diesel, no turbo lag due to the 48v electric supercharger which works until the turbo is ready to take over, I drove one in a w222 s400d and it felt almost turbine or EV linear smooth and it's very very quiet. An absolute engineering masterclass, plus it'll do 55mpg if you're even slightly careful with the throttle

I have a E400d Coupe and the straight 6 Diesel engine is silky smooth and the torque is something else. Totally agree it is the sweet spot of the E Class range having driven E220d, E450 and been a passenger in E63s.

Great choice Geoff, their torque really is incredible. Glad to hear you think the same!

I've got an e400d 4 matic and I absolutely love it. It's economical but really quick as well, probably quicker than my EVO 7 and that takes some doing. If you have the money buy one, you won't be disappointed.

Just bought an 2019 E400d Second hand with very few miles on it, its going to sit on the motorway taking my wife on 500 mile round trips most of the week, for the money you aren't going to get a faster sofa to drive ;) which is what our brief was :)

The biggest advantage of the E400 d is the soft ride. To go to the coffee 63AMG is the one. On a long distance the softness and quietness of 400 d is the difference of arriving tired or arriving ready for fun!

If Carlsberg did car reviews... superb video, Dan. I’m currently running a BMW 435d GC and, whilst it’s a cracking machine, its ride over less-than-perfect tarmac isn’t a lot of fun. I’ve been considering switching to an E400d at some point and your video makes a really strong case. Thanks for putting it together 👍🏻👍🏻

what a car! I think diesels are the best cars you can drive, but I don't know if it is still wise to purchase such an expensive diesel. they are becoming less and less valuable. in Europe you can only drive for 6 years with this E400d EU 6d temp and then you can no longer enter most major cities. a real shame.

There's a reason why old men like this car. It's better to get the 2015 one which had a thicker timing chain. These newer ones are less reliable
