GloomGaiGar Did you listen to it or just make up facts as you go? Mr Regular drives an NA Forester and not a new one. But the point is this is the basic of the basic and not even a good basic. It is trumped by used Corollas. This is for someone that is just looking for a new car so it can be new. That’s it. It’s Mitsubishi. They have not made quality anything for a long time. 12-13k for a brand new car tells the whole story right there.

Remember when Doug Demuro reviewed this with the title "The Mitsubishi Mirage is The Worst New Car You Can Buy"? In the end, after citing the many negatives and... features... he concludes it by saying something in the lines of "There's a market for this car, as bad as it is. And that is, it's for people who wants assurance that their car won't have major issues. They just want a new car with warranty, for people who just needs something reliable so that they can get to work, and come home." I feel like this video completes that, like an indirect sequel. Not only did Mr. Regular reviewed more of the mechanical aspects of the Mirage, he also agrees and adds to what Doug has said. It's a car that can give you one less piece of chaos. I'm starting to admire the Mirage in a way.

I own an 18 model. It's been remarkably great for why I bought it. Easy credit building, cheap insurance, a 10y/100k mile powertrain warranty that waill cover repairs in those first 10 years, if need be and a 45+ mpg hwy driver. It seats 5, or 4 comfortably, and has a decent Bluetooth stereo and the ability to go unnoticed in nearly any environment. It's simple, effective, reliable, cheap to maintain and easy to drive. Not a driver's car, just a car to drive.

@@thedant21 I had a 2000 Metro, coming from an 03 Focus. For the entire year I had it, the Metro made me feel completely dead inside when driving. A three speed automatic paired to a 4cyl 1.3L engine making just 79 bhp, at revs the automatic can barely reach until you're doing 97 and the engine is about to shake itself apart. Took 15 seconds to 60, foot planted to the ground. That was more powerful, lighter, and had better aerodynamics than the Mirage. The Mirage takes 12 seconds to 60 due to the better transmission, but still. No matter what I do agree, these cars will make you feel dead inside. It wasn't even cheap to maintain either, since the cars aren't made anymore and Suzuki barely makes cars.

I have a 2014 hatchback and it's EMBARRASSINGLY my favorite car I've ever owned. The crunchy shifter is life-affirming. I live in Baltimore and yeah, around town my mileage is stuck in the mid 30s. Going north on I-83 to work gets me high 30s to low 40s MPG... but that's all uphill. Coming back home, I've hit 60 MPG and average in the mid 50s. Uh, as long as the AC isn't on. I love being in the right lane. I love passing on the highway in 3rd gear. It's slow, but feels fast in the way tiny cars do. I put 13" steel wheels on it.

I bought one of these new in late 2014 to use as a work car, and it now has 140,000 miles on it. They NEVER break down. The Mirage is designed to be very cheap, very fuel efficient, and very reliable. And that is pretty much all it is. They are slow, noisy, and don't handle very well. If you need more out of a car, then you might want to take Mr. Regular's advice and go buy somebody else's cast-off Corolla. But the Mirage will get you there...CHEAP. All day, every day. This car is constantly winning 'Lowest Cost of Ownership' awards. Oh, change the gear oil to Redline MTL and the shifting improves A LOT.

I bought an '18 model in the 5 door/ 5sp. It was pre-owned with 2k miles. I got 46-48 mpg at 65 miles an hour across TN. I'd say that number could climb to 50+ if it was out west. Is it a Corolla? No. Is it aimed at the same market? Sorta. But it was a sub 12k dollar new car. It came with a 100k mile/10year warranty. 6 air bags, Bluetooth, back up camera, 45mpg average on the hwy and an uncomplicated, simple to maintain drivetrain. It's better value than a Prius, or really any hybrid. I'll have it paid off in less than 5 years and for someone just starting out on building their credit, it's been perfect for me. For the market it's aimed at, it does it's job very well.

@@Mach5Johnny I don't know what is worse. I'll admit modern Hyundai's have the best styling of all modern low to mid entry level cars ,but the driving experience is shit. The steering is the worst part. I was unfortunate to have to rent for a whole month due my daily failing. I drove the latest Hyundai Elantra and then a older model with 40,000 miles the DCT transmission had a 5 second shift lag vs the 10,000 mile newer Elantra I rented. So It's horribly unreliable IMO. I drove the Nissan Note with CVT and the steering was like 90% better and I preferred the CVT over the DCT! Edit: Turns out the model I had first was an 8 speed DCT and then I got the same exact model but with a 6-speed torque converter automatic. That explains why the shifting was so much slower and had lag, lol. Wow it's made me realize just how much Regular Automatics suck! It's so bad I though it was broken, lol!

I have a 2018 Mirage es hatchback. I love my mirage, I drive for Uber, it get compliments on it all the time from my customers and consistently retain high ratings with it. It is very spacious compared to what the size would suggest. I originally bought it because a new mirage was about the same cost as a used car with 50K miles on it. I have no regrets. At nearly 70K miles on it I have had zero issues, other than maintenance. I have an automatic with the CVT and have had no issues. I will admit, this is a "city car" though, I would NOT suggest this car if you live in a mountain area, as the 3 cylinder may not be enough power on really steep roads if you drive them consistently. As for my mpg, I get around 38 to 40 mpg with mixed driving of city and highway.
@palebeachbum
@palebeachbum 4 жыл бұрын
Considering you don't own the car, you hit the nail on the head pretty darn accurately. As the former owner of a 2014 Mirage, I totally agree about the pros and cons. The fuel economy is definitely not what one would expect considering how absolutely tiny the car is as well as the engine. Cruising at 55 mph on two-lane country roads, I could squeeze out 50 MPG driving very conservatively. Out on the open Interstate doing 70 MPH, that number dropped to about 43 MPG. To put it into perspective, my current 2018 Hyundai Elantra SEL has twice the horsepower and 800 extra pounds weight, yet averages about 46 MPG at 70 mph. I bought my Mirage because I was on a very tight budget and commuting long distance. I needed something cheap to buy, cheap to run, with a warranty and reliable. The Mirage was a perfect fit for my life at the time. I actually grew to really love the car. It was lime green with pink accented black upholstery. The car had a lot of personality both in its appearance and driving demeanor. I loved the growl of that 3 cylinder engine. I also love the simplicity of the engineering and practicality of the hatchback. I could literally fit a full-size adult bicycle with the back seat folded. Of course some asshat rear-ended me and totaled the car after only 4 years and 56,000 miles. I was really disappointed to lose the car. Although my 2018 Elantra is a much nicer and much better driving car, I do still miss that quirky little Mirage.

I like mine. It's a car that grows on you, sort of. If you get in it from a 2024 Cadillac or something, it's a horrible car. But the more you drive it, the more you like it. Now, right off the bat I liked the Mirage, I came from a 2004 Cadillac Deville. But the more I drove it, and racked up 21,000 miles in 8 months, the more I like it. I had stuff to do in Florida, my mom had to go, she won't fly, she refuses to ride in the Mirage, so we took her car, a 2024 Ford Maverick. 2 Weeks in, I miss the Mirage. The Mirage is more engaging, and is somehow more comfortable, door panels less scratchy, the lack of buttons to use the car is refreshing. I can't wait to get back in it.

As a mirage owner. This review was awesome, I've owned hatchbacks, trucks and learned how to drive on a Celica GTS, my car prior to this was a Lexus RX and a Toyota Matrix, I get it. It's not the best, not the worst and the CVT is okay. But it gets me to point a - b , takes 25 dollars to fill up and I get around 45mpg highway and 39mpg city. I've gone as far as 50mpg before driving at a steady 65mph. It's not fun, thrilling, the most comfortable and it's kinda loud but fuck it works. The bluetooth is amazing, the rear view camera is clear and the sound system is pretty good, it's also very roomy, spacious and the trunk is ample for anything I could need it for. I dig it and I do not regret buying it one bit. If I want to have fun, that's what my motorcycle and vintage truck is for.

I have a 2018 G4 manual with almost 70k miles and I do Lyft full time, averaging 42 mpg and I only have to fill up once a day. I just replaced the center console cloth and added 3 inches of padding for more comfort (adding cloth to the door cards here in a week or so for looks as well). I also have a custom 2 inch intake with the DAOX MAF adapter and it not only sounds sweet but also increased my mid-range torque slightly. I also have a weighted shift knob, although I want to remove the lever, chop an inch and a half off and mill new threads in to shorten the throw a bit, but it's not a dealbreaker. I've had two VERY minor issues with the car. First, the cable likes to slip out of the trunk release lever on the floor. A single philips screw and you can remove the lever assembly, pop the cable back in, and you're good to go. I also lined mine with gorilla glue and it hasn't come out yet. Second, I have a driver side dash rattle, it's just not bad enough to pull apart yet (I'd assume this came from driving on dirt roads so often as the previous owner did) This car has been AMAZINGLY efficient and reliable. I'd buy another one tomorrow if I totaled this one. I've also owned a 2019 CVT hatch that's up to 80k miles thereabouts that I sold to my buddy and he loves it too (still no reliability issues either). The CVT will get slightly better mileage on the freeway due to the engine spinning at less RPM. Also side note, I took my G4 (with no cruise mind you) on a backroad 250 mile trip across Utah the other day and doing 50-55 I averaged 50 mpg, using just over half a tank of fuel. If you're looking for cheap and reliable, this is the car to get. I am an enthusiast and I still find joy and value driving this. It rides okay (way better than okay if you get the DAOX rear sway bar, you can find information on mirageforum on how to purchase), the AC is adequate, and yes you have to wind it out getting on the freeway but that's where the fun is. Oh, and did I mention that you can change the oil on these without picking the car up off the ground? AND to add to that point, the oil filter is mounted horizontally on the front of the engine block. To make filter changes a TAD bit easier (you don't have to do this), you can zip tie the lower radiator over to the module on the left to get more room (make sure to leave space to snip the zip tie once you're done) and PLEASE use a channel-lock style oil filter wrench (cap wrenches will do, but you'll bust your knuckles trying to get the filter out that way) and it comes off with no trouble. AND there's a ramp below the oil filter, so you don't drain oil all over the block. Just throw a drain pan under the ramp and use brake cleaner when you're done before you pull the pan out. Redline transmission fluid for the manual variants is recommended as well, however I haven't changed over to this yet, and I will likely do that here once the warm weather is here to stay. Stock tires are kind of a pain in the ass to find. I currently have 15 inch Ultra Platinum 403 Slalom wheels with 175/55r15 tires, and the speedo is accurate within 0.6% and the little bit of extra width goes a long way for stability, and the size hasn't impacted MPG. This is kind of long winded, and I apologize, just wanted to give everyone a true owner review of the car. I'd buy another one tomorrow if I had to. 110%. I've owned a lot of cars over the years (93 Escort LX, 98 Civic EX, 93 Lebaron GTC Manual coupe, 96 Tacoma 2WD, 15 Kia Forte manual, 05 Volvo S40 T5, 18 Fusion SE 1.5 Ecoboost, Saturn Ion, Saturn SW1 (still have this one, potential K20 swap candidate), and a few more I can't remember.) This has been by far the most reliable and solid car I've ever owned. If you've read this far, I appreciate you.

I'm taking mine on a trip from Colorado to Louisiana to see family soon and it'll be the second time my little Mirage G4 5MT has made the journey. I'm trying to get prices for the parts on the forum because I wanna blow like $5,000 on ALL the suspension bits. But... I don't know if it'll even cost anywhere near that. I assume I need to call the parts manufacturers to find out the actual prices? I searched the forums all day yesterday with no real luck and the manufacturer websites don't seem to list prices. I do have my eyes on a set of $1,200 coilovers but that's all I could price out.

My wife's OEM wheels and tires for her 2022 Mirage G4 BE is 15" & 175 55 r15. The BE and SE trims get this upgrade. When her tires are getting bald, I'll replace them with 185 55 r15 tires. I REALLY thought about buying this car when I was looking for a new car last year. I spoke with my mechanic and several other trusted people, and they recommended against it because I do a lot of highway driving. I went with a Subaru Impreza instead, and the car is EXCELLENT on the highway. I'm not joking, I drove a 50 mile stretch once and it only consumed 1 gallon of gasoline. In the city, it's absolutely abysmal - talk 22 mpg or less. But on the highway, where I use it most, it's great. Now, back to the Mirage. The Mirage is still a car I'd love to buy when I have enough money for a second car. It would be a great backup to keep on the street, to use when I need to quickly go grab some groceries. I've always been a sucker for small cars like the Scion iQ, Mitsu Mirage, Fiat 500 Abarth, and even the 2003-2008 Corolla because it was so compact and tall. This video is making me think again about getting one. In my area, they go for around $15K new, which is hard to justify when a Corolla is only $2K more. However, in Los Angeles (which is quite a drive from where I live), I remember seeing new Mirages for only $7,400 new at Anaheim Mitsu. If they have a new Mirage for even $9K down the road, I'll get one no-doubt. It seems like a very reliable and under-rated car. Plus it's so cute - I love it!

This with more horsepower, wider larger tires, and stiffer suspension sounds like a good recipe for a great and cheap hot hatch. The foundation is already there. It’s already aerodynamic, the chasis is surprisingly solid, it’s easy to mod, and it’s lighter than a Miata.

I actually like the newer Mirages. They are so simple and small that most repairs could be done in a home garage, or shed, driveway, etc. I've driven three manual cars: a 1979 MGB, a 1989 Dodge D100, and a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage, and I can say that the Mirage had the best feeling shifter of the bunch, but that equates to someone only eating at McDonald's, and then trying any half decent sit-down restaurant. I do agree that they are too small for highway driving above a certain speed, but are great for slower commutes. I prefer the hatchback though.

I gotta defend this car 🙋🏻‍♂️ I bought a 17 cvt cause of how cheap it was and I got 53 mpg on a 200 mile road trip. Just throw a subwoofer and some new speakers in that bitch, that's what I did. Shit, mine's got interior LED's. Oil changes are only 3.8 quarts of 0w20 and cheap as hell to do. Drain and fill 7 quarts of new cvt fluid every 40k miles yourself and save hundreds. Thing always starts and goes, and if you don't drive the shit them of it apparently they'll go forever. A minnesota couple put 400k on there's and only replaced wheel bearings and 2 starters. Then again, they also said it was "peppy" (far from true, thing is slow as fuck). Won't lie, it's sketch as hell when winds are blowing hard but aye, I get better mpg when it's pushing forward. Point is, it's a basic ass car but it's a goodie. P.S. it's got apple fucking carplay yo
