I can never get tired of hearing the BRZ’s engine. Despite it just being a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder, I don’t mind at all. In fact, I love it. I love the sound, the power, the 6-speed transmission, the interior. Would love to drive a stock BRZ one day, or one that’s lightly modified.

@@brokentradgedy If I became interested in turbocharged cars, then I’d end up only caring about horsepower. I absolutely do not want to become that kind of car guy. Would rather find joy in actually driving the car and appreciating the car’s driving dynamics. With fast cars the main source of excitement is flooring it and feeling how fast the car accelerates. At that point you don’t care about the driving aspect anymore because the power makes up most of the fun.
@TheBigNate505

@@perrry_ho I was just thinking about this recently. Going fast in a straight line, while incredibly fun and exciting, wears off over time. However, appreciating the dynamics, looks, and functionality of a car has the potential to keep the driver engaged for much longer with satisfaction that doesn't rely on increasing horsepower every month.

I'm a long time owner and honestly the car is fine the way it is, it is fun. It gets old listening to people whine about more power. It's not like I bought it blindly....I knew what I was getting. You want something more powerful? There's plenty of options man.

Totally agree on the power (ex FR-S owner), but even with my less that great driving skills, I used to the torque dip. If they could tune that out (instead of after market fixes), would be perfect out the box. The seats were awesome and the steering/handling was so good.
@Genevagirls-h2x
@Genevagirls-h2x 6 жыл бұрын
The question to ask people whining for more is, would you pay more for a more powerful option? I bet the answer is no. The car was meant as a replacement to the ae86, an affordable rear-wheel drive coupe. I do not think they meant for this to be the new supra or mr2.
@michaelw2263

Totally agree. It really is fine the way it is. Adding something as simple as headers and a tune helps quite a bit more (it's what I did). But everyone loves to play the number game. Not enjoy how it drives or feels, sadly. :/

Frs owner of 2 years. I have an intake and exhaust (soon to get headers and a tune) but I'm begging for more power. Car handles well but it does need more. I knew it was underpowered when I bought it, and since it was first ever manual car I didnt mind it at first. I get the aftermarket support for it but I'm sure Subaru could find a way to gain 20hp and kill the torque dip..

I bought my 2016 FRS 3 years ago, and I've loved every single day with it. This is definitely one of the most fun and most satisfying cars to drive. If you want more power, buy another car or slap a turbo on. I enjoy it stock, and have no issues with the power. This car is not about straight line, it's built for precision. I see mustang and genesis owners envy my car.

I so agree with your tire discussion on these cars. I’ve put just at 80k mikes on my FRS and have been through A LOT of tires. I have found that it’s pretty easy to over tire the car which does neuter it unless you add more power or are doing track days. I’ve had the most fun on the stock tires or some high quality all season sport tires. Right now I’m running those 595 Rr R (how many R’s?) tires in the stock size; while they are maybe a little too grippy, as they have accrued a few miles and heat cycles they seem to be a pretty nice compromise.

The comments for these cars (BRZ/FRS/GT86) always kill me...criticism from people who have never driven one. They’re truly one of the very best cars you can buy, especially at this price point. They’re perfect. Of course more power is always nice, but honestly, if these cars had a true 250HP to the wheels they would be unbeatable. As they are now, it’s very difficult to complain about after you actually put some time behind the wheel.

If I were to buy this type of car I’d just get an older model. Not the first release, but the second year and put a turbo. Honestly, that’s all it’s missing. My take on it is that if Subaru or Toyota does it, then the sales on the wrx sti is going to plummet. Imagine a turbo 300hp BRZ. Rear wheel drive. That would get sales from any age group, mostly from the 18-25 group.

Pulling from 50 in third gear isn't what people are asking for in overtaking. Its from 60 in 6th or even 5th that its just got no guts and the torque hole is killing it. You NEED to change down gears to 4th to pass anyone on a hwy. I mean who gives a 20ft+ torque hole, just above cruising revs, to a car with very little torque already!

I have a BRZ Yellow, is the Ts Package basically the same thing? My spoiler is a bit differen't...and of course the car is Yellow and black, but has the brembos, upgraded suspenison, and the damps. IT's a 2017, but the concept of an upgraded suspension on a BRZ is kind of like...Really?

The TS package is basically the performance of a stock STI embedded into the last gen Brz’s, the spoiler and the body kit as well resembles a wrx sti made from 2015-21, I wish they made more of the brz ts in my opinion

I'm guessing it's not extremely popular because it really isn't significant. The BRZ/FRS/86 was an interesting car back then, but right now it's lacking interest. I wish Toyota would blow us away by announcing a redesign of the car with a V6 or a 2.5T engine making at least 300bhp/310 torque. That isn't even a lot for a sports car, but I strongly believe it will at least have people talking about it again!
@K03sport
@K03sport 6 жыл бұрын
... You/we probably won't see much development on the 86/brz as Toyota has announced plans for a 4cyl (turbo) 5th gen supra; which is still 2-3 years away, but w/that announcement, this chassis/model was doomed to languish w/minimal development, just like what Nissan did on the 370z. We might be lucky to see a new (not mid-cycle refresh) 86/brz in 2-3 years (8 yr cycle) but that is only if it is given a chance to have a 2nd gen. Even the greatest cars are killed by poor sales.

It's never going to happen. Ever. Idk why people keep whining about a 300hp car or some shit like that. IF they even bothered to, people would complain about the price. I guarantee the price would skyrocket to 40-45k easily. Then you'd hear the same people say something like what you're doing and whine that it's too expensive. And that they could buy a used Porsche, or an Alfa 4C or whatever at the price point.

Sick of people saying 'but the brz is quicker on the track' how many people actually take there car on the track? And if you do, then how much time do you spend there as opposed to an actual road? Straight line speed is more fun for everyday use. The BRZ is a great car yes, but its way overpriced for what it is

Ben Nalon more power on the is350, but the steering feel will be completely different and driving dynamics completely different. it’ll be a lot more numb compared to the BRZ :) but i will say the f sport is350s have beautiful interiors so it’s whether you care about that raw driving experience or more power and comfortableness

@vincentxtran
@vincentxtran 6 жыл бұрын
@@xXNotreDameLaXx honestly you have to test drive them to really get a feel, descriptions from another person will never be enough. from my experience, driving an is350 f sport was just more comfortable since the interior was nicer, but the steering was not as nearly as direct as a BRZ/FRS. also a BRZ/FRS will be a lot bumpier and harsher ride, and much more rev-happy while an is350 wont rev very high unless you're in the "manual" mode (controlling revs on an automatic)

the 2.5 na, depending on which 2.5, has some really annoying piston slap because of the shorter skirts on the pistons. my na 11 impreza has the most annoying piston slap. Which in the end puts so much wear in the piston rings even when subaru keeps saying the engine is fine. along with the oil consumption problems with some of the 2.5's. be happy its not the 2.5

4:05No.. they wouldn't. Just turbo it. In fact, the set-up already exists. The reason it doesn't come turbo'd is because it would cannibalize WRX sales. Plain and simple. Quit trying to act like you know exactly what it would take to give it more power like everyone watching this is just stupid or mechanically challenged. The fact that ppl are already getting good numbers from turbo/supercharger set-ups proves that it can be done with ease. Will the price go up? Well of course. But not to where it would make it unattainable. I like this car. Have no problem with how it comes from factory. Ppl just have to go into purchasing knowing it comes as a BALANCED package. Just enough for fun in the twisties and to get to work and back. If you want more power, quit whining and just do it or pay to get it done.
