2023 GR86 here... get a Drop Stop. Slides in between the seat and center console and fills the gap... or more importantly for the 86 is it makes a little padded compartment right next to the seat. 100% of the time that's where my phone goes. Then you don't throw it across the car when you take a corner with some enthusiasm

The comment about the GR86 having a more linear throttle is factually incorrect - the BRZ has a more linear throttle. Throttle mapping between the twins have been posted on the forums and has shown that the GR86 feels more responsive because torque demand by the throttle is significantly boosted at a lower accelerator position.

​@@HumorDash The thing you need to ask yourself is why you would even want that in the first place? Just press the throttle pedal more in the BRZ. The BRZ having a more linear throttle means more room for adjustability when driving enthusiastically or at a track. The average person doesn't want to be aggressive or floor the accelerator, so the manufacturers all make throttle pedals that are too sensitive in the first 50% of pedal travel. Having that makes the consumer feel good that they aren't driving the car hard and gives them a "wow" factor during the test drive, but for sports cars, it's a negative.

You are correct good sir. Besides style, the biggest difference between the two cars is that the GR86 has a more immediate feel to the throttle, suspension and steering. And the BRZ leans towards a more restrained and refined throttle and ride. Personally I'm inclined to the base 86 and take the savings and apply them to my own mods with the goal being weight savings and more responsiveness overall.

Honestly, I disagree with your take on the GR vs BRZ throttle tuning. I think the BRZ throttle tuning is way better than the GR86, and I say this as someone who bought a GR86. If you look at actual throttle maps from the ECU, the BRZ is much more linear. The GR is WOT at ~45% pedal travel vs ~85% for the BRZ. It makes the GR feel "peppy" when you're driving around town and giving it 20% pedal input and getting 50% throttle opening, but it makes throttle modulation more difficult and I'd prefer if it were more linear. I've learned to drive around it, but it's still an annoyance, probably my single biggest gripe with the car. If not wanting to avoid mucking up my powertrain warranty, I already would have tuned the car not for power but literally just to fix the throttle mapping. I want it to feel like a cable throttle. IMO, they both have too little throttle response for the first 5-10% of pedal travel when the car is stopped, which feels very odd. Once you get rolling, gentle throttle inputs elicit a response, but when you're dead stopped with the clutch in, you have to give it considerably more throttle than you'd expect to get a response out of the engine. It's a really weird feeling and not something I've experienced in any other car. I don't know why they made the throttle less responsive at a stop than when rolling, it makes no sense at all.

Had this been without the Eye Sight, I would have happily grabbed this edition. I owned the the 2015 Aozora special edition with the blue stitching and it was a perfect visual pairing. But I don't want to be a guinea pig for the Eye Sight setup in manual. Sorry. I grabbed a '23 and Krown-ed it based on your comments. Boy it dripped a lot :/ But now it is a great car to drive and enjoy. Might swap in some fancy parts, but truthfully, it simply rocks as is. Re: phone storage - I ordered a 2 pocket black cubby thing that attaches via velcro. It's about the size of a standard mailing envelope. Placed along the vertical section of the center column forward of the parking brake. Fits my phone and garage door opener.

Hello all I’m new to BRZ/GR86 platform. Cross shopping both, my goal is to track car at Limerock, Monticello Raceway, as well as New Jersey motorsport park. As well as enjoy some backroads in NYS. I’ve been lurking around forums gathering information on both. Not new to tracking cars, I’ve been tracking my FBO tuned &Trans tune e85 2011 IS-F with KWv3 coilovers, urethane bushings, new control arms along with whole host of suspension upgrades weight reduction car for 13yrs now. Looking for smaller lighter weight platform now, something different. The IS-F is staying looking to add a new stable mate for IS-F. Since BRZ & GR86 are very similar which of these two cars would be the better option? The MX-5 is also in the mix.

To be fair winter tries give much less road feedback via steering wheel than summers. Not that this car has a great steering feedback or anything but I wished gr brz had a better communication steering like an old school BMWs and better brake bite feel also like BMWs. Another small complaint would be more progressive clutch feel and this car would be perfect. And no in doesn’t need more power or turbo

I have the 2024 BRZ and already engaged the emergency stop feature (half way stopped while still in 4th gear) when someone in front slows/stops abruptly. It gave a grinding sound that I’m not sure is a concern and if I should just turn off.

I also have a '24 BRZ. That grinding is ABS. It's not harmful, just loud. If your foot is on the brake pedal when it activates, you should be able to feel it vibrate/bounce there with that ABS noise.

OMG, the Michelin tires are not that loud. I have a TS and a 13 FRS, and my FRS has brand new Dunmlop tires. They are not any quieter than the Michelins. Throttle response is crisper in my auto 13 FRS. Steering is much heavier in the 13 FRS too.

Speculation but fun to discuss nonetheless. It would ruin the car unless they were able to add forced induction and fix the oiling system (Porsche boxers have an oil sump built into the engine to prevent this while the GR86/BRZ doesn’t have anything besides oil pickup tube) without ruining the weight distribution. The car is currently 53/47 front/rear with an NA engine. If they turbo’d the car as it is without a major redesign, you would get maybe 280-300 BHP instead of the reported 230, and it would ruin the weight distribution. Also, they’d have to reinforce everything. The transmission, differential, axles, connecting rods in the engine, etc. Just some projections, but the car, as it is, is currently not designed for anything more than like 250 WHP and like 200 Wtq (based on experience with 1st gen GT87/BRZ ricers). Turbo-ing a car PROPERLY is not a simple bolt-on + ECU flash that these ricers make you think it is. You also need to think about marketing and demographics as well. You’re probably talking about a $45,000 car instead of a $32,000 car with these additions (it might only add about $3k in additional parts, but they also have to redesign the chassis in some way as well, so add R&D costs to it). That puts it in entry-level BMW, Audi, Lexus territory. The BRZ/GR86 is a MUCH harder sell vs high performance luxury car category than it is vs budget sports cars (Miata, Civic SI, maybe Elantra N). The Elantra N is a unicorn of sorts, but it’s also FF instead of FR, so it’s not a fair comparison from a price perspective.

I don’t think it has sensors for the gear, it calculates the gear based on speed and rpm, so it only shows it after clutch out.

If you’re willing to make a drive, in Las Vegas, there are 2 Subaru dealerships that do not do markups, super easy to work with and they make you feel at home there, I bought my 23 brz from them and they were great to deal with. I got mine at MSRP and they even threw in a couple extra little things including a $25 gas card with the full tank of gas and an emergency kit

Kinda bummed it's called tS and not BRZ STI. 30ish years of brand cache wasted. Also kinda bummed "tS" doesn't stand for "twin screw Supercharger". Factory boosted BRZ would be awesome.

Nit here. Blue interior accents are nice looking - unless you want red and then it looks dumb. Kinda like the red accents on the other brzs if you wanted to get one of the blue exterior colors. Toyota made a smarter move with a neutral interior accent choice. As for the Ts package: not a fan of the bronze color to the brembos and wouldn’t spend the 2,650 for the upgrades. Buy an upper trim from Subaru or Toyota and modify if you feel you need to do so. Also don’t feel any remorse that I do not have eyesight (2022 gr86) who gives a shit? Pay attention while you’re driving….its not a GD minivan!

Assuming the 2nd gen is the same size inside as the 1st, I had no issue when I was 130kg (195cm tall), and I seem to recall the seats in the 2nd gen have a bit wider bolstering than the 1st gen, so I would think it would even be a bit better, hope that helps!
