Another great video! We’ve been shopping for a Class B and I agree with your assessment that the Travato seems to be the best bang for your buck. Yes, the quality is not on par with a Pleasure Way but it is still a very good value, and actually holds an advantage in a few areas. The 2019 Travato models now both come with compressor refrigerators, something the Pleasure Ways still don’t have. The Travato also has more cargo space than the equivalent Promaster model on the PW side, the Lexor. Not just with the use of the roof and bike rack, but interior space as well. They’re also now “4 season” vans; that’s big for a lot of people. For me, the compressor fridge is a must on small B like these. We want to use the vehicle for quick getaways and be able to park anywhere. I don’t want to have to level the van just to get my fridge to work when we pull up to a spot off the main road. The few improvements I’ve wanted to see in the Travato seem to have been taken care of with the newly announced 59GL and 59KL models; MUCH better windows, less need to carry all the window shades for the cab and rear windows, better use of space under the bed in the 59G and most importantly, a powerful Lithium system with no noisy generator. Depending on how Winnebago prices these new models, I think they could take an even bigger bite out of the Class B market. One concern I have is how much these heavier components affect the Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity (OCCC) of the vehicle. The Travato already had a pretty good OCCC of around 1900 lbs, so maybe it won’t be too bad. The Lexor is not too bad in this area either, I think it’s around 1600 lbs. Better than a lot of other models out there. This could be a great topic for one of your videos. It’s an area that a lot of RV buyer tend to ignore until it’s too late; just how much stuff can I really carry around in my new RV?! GVWR, GAWR, GCWR and OCCC are very important acronyms that all RVers should be familiar with.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
OCCC. GVWR, GCWR is an upcoming episode LOL! Not next week for the week after so stay tuned! What a great and thoughtful comment. Thank you so much for sharing with folks. I'm going to pin it! Love the Travato and think that it is one heck of a van for your buck. Hope they sell a bazillion of them!
@waynewolfe35146 жыл бұрын
OCCC - excellent point Andrew. Lack of OCCC is my biggest concern about many of the B+ vans sold on the market today. My view is that a lighter loaded properly balanced motorhome, that is well under the GVWR, has better handling and braking characteristics in an emergency maneuver situation.

After looking at Class B's for a few months I decided on the Travato 59K. I got a 2018 at I think was a great price, I love the open floor plan of it, I drove it to Phoenix from Southern Cal last week and loved stopping at the rest areas and just laying on one of the side couches with the sliding door open and the screen door shut. Just what I wanted, not claustrophobic at all inside of it. I have no problem with the engine power, got me there and back with no problems, cruised at 65 mph and got around 17-18 MPG. No problems yet with the build quality, One issue came up on Friday night when I am hooked up to shore power, there is a hum coming from the AC to DC inverter. Called the dealer and texted them a quick video of the noise. Have not heard back from them yet. I bought the Cherry Red Travato and I got some compliments from people at the rest areas.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
that cherry red is stunning. congratulations on your new rig! so happy that you bought a class b. I love the 59k. the interior is so wide open and bright. love the rear bathroom. love the feeling of the cabinets shutting. very nice van all around. great choice and i'm sure you got a great price!

I have a 2016 59K and love it. I watch reviews of other class b vans but always like what I got. I added more solar power. The toilet was removed and a composting toilet was install. Another valve was put on so the waste and gray holding tanks could be joined to increase capacity. Lithion batteries are going to be installed next.

Another interesting video. With that red, no blending into the surroundings. ;-) Exciting to see how increased demand and competition are beginning to drive up the quality and appeal of RVs. Can’t wait to see what comes of that. Thanks for another well-done video.

Ultramobility FYI, if it helps, early part of video is a tad dark. Other pluses - IMHO - re: new Travato, seems to be more weatherproofed, i.e., plumbing, etc., under carriage are better insulated against cold. Would love to see far less use of propane; eg: higher capacity inverters, solar, induction stove. In fact, re: stove, I imagine using my Instant Pot and not cooking much at all. Currently using a portable induction unit for testing: works beautifully. No heat, no flame, little space, hidden when out of use. For someone who loves eating fresh produce, the extra counter space is ideal for cutting/assembling. This Travato really looks like a winner. Winnebago is listening: bravo!

I've got to figure out the lighting situation. If I were shooting in normal flat tv video mode then I could use my lighting rig. But with 360 degree video (which is what I shoot in) you'll see the ugly lighting rig just hanging out when you look around. Maybe that's ok? What do you think? Thanks as always for sharing your comments with me and other viewers. Really appreciate it!

Ultramobility The yin and yang of everything: I’d say try the 360 and get view feedback. May be worth the better lighting. Or maybe you’d like to do a giveaway of a new Pleasure Way????

As a new owner of a 2018 Travato K let me warn you. You will be getting a low price point but the quality controls at Winnebago are horrible. I have more issues than I can even remember with this rig in the 2 months k have owned it. If you are willing to take about 1/2 the price of a comparable RoadTrek in exchange for dealing with a lot of quality issues and repairs then it is a great deal. My heater never works on electric. My sink drain wasn't even hooked up. There is no spare It has no power. Just went to California and back. Good times in those mountains let me tell you. The parts are very cheap. I could go own. Just know what you are getting. A low budget , low quality RV at a great price that you will spend a lot of time on. And since getting in for warranty repairs can take weeks or months, it's just easier to eat the cost and do many of the repairs yourself

I'm a 42-year-old, self-employed single guy who has always dreamed of owning and living full-time in an RV. I've always pictured it as something I'd do in the distant future (retirement, etc.), but lately I've been thinking, why put off until tomorrow what I can do today? Life's just too short. Stumbled across your videos while exploring different brands of Class B's, and have to say I'm VERY impressed with both the style but especially the substance of your posts. Forgive me if this has been answered before, but what would you recommend as the top 2 or 3 Class B models for a FULL-TIMER?
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
Oh man, James. That's a difficult question. Is it just or do you have a pet? How important is space? Do you need a lot of storage? How tall are you? answers to these questions and others will help me help you better.
@jamess24786 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to reply. It sounds like you spend a lot of time in your Ascent, but I'm guessing your experience using it for getaway weekend trips and as a mobile office might be very different from someone trying to live in one full time. To answer your questions, it will just be me, although I'd likely have a friend and/or dog join me sometimes. I'm 6' tall. Space is less important to me than overall comfort and livability (I've always joked that should I ever have to go to prison for some reason, I'd probably get along just fine as long as I could still read and write lol). I wouldn't need a ton of storage, as I don't have a lot of "stuff" to begin with and I'll have the flexibility to store what I don't take with me in a family member's basement. For what it's worth, the biggest (and really ONLY) thing on the "cons" side of my pros/cons list is the driving part. I've never driven anything bigger than a regular 4-door Mercedez Benz, not even an SUV! So the whole size thing is a little intimidating, which is why I switched from looking at Class C's to Class B's in the first place (still open to a Class C, but right now a Class B is seeming like the better personal fit). Thanks again for any tips and advice you might be able to offer, and of course I will continue following your channel as a new loyal subscriber.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
Do you mind a longer van like 23 feet or do you prefer a shorter one like mine? I'd say you need to consider the bedroom arrangement and comfort of the cab seat since you're tall. I would recommend the Lexor by Pleasureway as it has the same layout as mine but is a tad longer at 21 feet. The bed is larger. not sure about the cab. high quality. good price. if you're thinking about C's then take a look at the Pleasureway Plateau XLMB which has the murphy bed. Very spacious, high quality but clocks in at 24 feet. Do you need a 4 season van? If so consider the Paseo by Winnebago built on the Ford platform (it's gas) or the new Travato with the lithium ion batteries.
@jamess24786 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the helpful reply! I probably won't know what length I'm comfortable with until I visit some dealers/shows and see some of these RV models in person. Before stumbling across your channel, I'd pretty much narrowed things down to Pleasure-Way or Roadtrek. I really liked the Roadtrek brand, but after watching some of your videos (still working my way through the archives), I'm re-thinking that and leaning more toward PW. The Lexor seems nice but I don't like the idea of a Dodge/gas engine. Most of what I've read so far says that diesel engines are more durable and better for full-timers? Plus I've been driving a Mercedes Benz for the past five years so I'm already comfortable with the brand and like the idea of sticking with them. The Plateau XLTD caught my eye (LOVE that bathroom!) but the price is considerably higher than what I was hoping to pay. Still lots to think about! Thanks again for the recommendations and for providing such a fantastic resource for those of us newly exploring the world of Class B's.

I would definitely look at this as my first class. Allows you to take more people with you, option of full Queen bed, maybe add one up front for kids. Greatvent system, generator a must . Would change rear curtain to a sliding mechanism like side windows. All in all a pretty good van ,with ability to add on , Believe newer ones have better electrical options a wind sensor awning. Would like to see a better, longer warranty

Love your channel and you have given me a great education on camper vans. Would love to see a video comparing your favorite camper van against the Winnebago View 24D floor plan. Seems that your theme is purely class B limited, which I get. But for a Sprinter based platform, seems like the View is a small leap up in size for a lot more living space. Getting your pro/con in a comparison would be very interesting.

@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
i will certainly do a review but just watched a video on it and will give you my quick take: It's great that Winnebago is innovating and giving Roadtrek a run for its money. 48 volt systems certainly have their advantages but they come at a cost as well. as you can see the msrp for the L series is something like $25k - $30k more expensive. At those levels you're in premium territory and ... well frankly their quality just doesn't match. You can't sell a $140k plus van and then build the cabinets with stick framing and staples and give only a 1 year warranty. does not make sense. i predict sales will struggle unless they improve the quality and offer a competitive 5-6 year warranty.

Love the openness of the layout like you said, but I would move the sink to the other side next to the siding door entrance and I would put the Aktiv style front facing 2 seater there for a dinning area, not wall behind the seats. Leave everything else the same. And that would be my ideal layout exactly!
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
yeah the problem with moving the lounge to the front on the sprinter chassis is that the van is too narrow. you have to blow out the windows in the back to get a bed in so that you can sleep laterally because there's not enough length once you move the lounge to the front.
@guitarlearningtoplay6 жыл бұрын
Ultramobility I thought the lounge on the Aktiv turns into a small twin bed using the front drivers seat? I’m also fine not having two beds just for my wife and myself, so I would be fine having those two seat apart like on the luxury touring sprint by Midwest that you showed. I like having two extra front facing seat belted seats, plus you can put a removable table in the middle of all four seats to make a nice dinning area.. and the couches in the back that convert to a bed will be the true lounge area with TV..

I love your videos. So informative! But it always comes back to this one question, my main concern. How well are they insulated? I plan to live full time on the road. I want to be able to use dispersed camping and to be able to boondock in all climates. My biggest concern and desire is to be able to spend some of my time in cold country and snow. I can visit hot climates in winter but I can't visit the snow in summer. I love the Winnebago for layout and quality but I don't want to spend that much money and then have to tear it all apart to insulate it against freezing temperatures. Do you have a good recommendation or suggestion on how I can avoid doing my own conversion and still have the freedom and flexibility that doesn't require going deisel? I would love it if you would apply your excellent analytical skills to doing a video on how fulltime RVers can find or create well insulated living environments resistent to freezing problems without doing their own build or tear out and reconstruction. Thanks bunches for your well thought out and informative videos. The material you present is so useful for avoiding costly mistakes.

Hi, Diana. Well the new Travato 50GL, like its predecessor is *almost* all season. It is not advertised as all season but it does have heated holding tanks including a heated fresh water tank and a heated lithium ion battery casing. It is one of the most all-season ready class B rv's out there (after the Revel and Paseo). That being said there are some quality issues around insulation that they need to address. Take a look at this video review from the Fit Rv. At time marker 11:40 you'll notice a cabinet space under the bed. The wheel well is not insulated. Bad. I can't comment as to how well this rig will perform in colder clients. The Fit RV did a thermo test of theirs with a heat gun. You can find the video on their channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJeqkGuOYtaAe7sm40s

Thank you so much for making this video. I did have one question... I was wondering do you know F Winnebago has a Trovato Makes a floor plan where the back is an open lounge kind of like in your RV and he convert makes a floor plan where the back is an open lounge kind of like in your RV where the sofa converts into a bed. The reason why am asking is because I really love the open feeling and all of the windows and with the 59k and G models I have not seen all of that open area nurse with the windows and natural light coming in.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
unfortunately the travato like only has the 59k (twin bed layout with the bathroom in the rear) and 59g (bed in the rear and lounge up front). If you like the promaster chassis but want a more traditional layout like mine with the bed in the rear then you may want to consider the Roadtrek Zion. They have a model with the rear bench seat. It would be cool if Winnebago made a Travato floorplan with a rear bench seat. Maybe they will!

Hi I am new to your channel and just subscribed, great and insightful videos!! I have been researching class B’s for about the past 6 months and although loved the 59K layout was waiting for a Lithium upgrade and finally it’s here! Even after 6 months my head starts to spin when they talk about Amps, Watts, Volts, etc. maybe I should have paid more attention in school 😀. Is there a simple way of understanding the differences and the importance of each? For example the battery in the new 59KL is different than others and so is the Alternator but what does all the mean in real life usage? Thanks so much for your great videos, it’s been snowing all day in the NE and have been binge watching all day!

Thanks for the review! I'm wondering how you would rate the Hymer Aktiv 2.0 relative to the Travato in terms of build quality, options, and value in general. Thanks!
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
that's a great question. i will look into that. i'm fairly certain the hymer doesn't use staples in its construction so that's already a plus over the travato but.. RT has some quality control issues in general so hopefully that hasn't translated over to the Hymer line. I'll take a closer look at the Aktiv and maybe do a head to head comparison!

Awesome videos!! I am also in the market for a new Class B Van and have narrowed it down to the Winnebago Travato 59K for the many reasons Andrew listed below and the Pleasure Way Lexor TS. I love both for each ones specific pros/cons and I am having a terrible time making up my mind! Can you do a review on the PW Lexor TS at some point? I want the "fit and finish" of the PW's but I love the compressor refrigerator and the open layout of the Travato 59K as well as the huge rear bath!! And the Travato's are much cheaper and have quality fit and finish as well. Ugh I need help with this decision! Thank you for the great videos! Have followed you from the beginning!!! Keep it up!!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but does one have to either be plugged into shore power, or run the generator in order to heat the electric water heater. If so, this is sort of a hassle just to take a shower, or wash some dishes. Any comment?

hi, david. i dont think so. here's what the Winnebago site says: "* Quick Recovery Truma Combi™ water/coach heater system runs on LP and/or 110-volt electric (includes 2-850-watt heating elements)" so it runs off lp as well as electric.

I noticed you mentioned this is a good bargain for the money however you then show the list price of the Pleasureway as less expensive with the 59k when you did the head to head video So therefore that would make the Pleasureway a bargain Coach? I wouldn’t think so myself I would be very surprised if you could purchase a Pleasureway Lexor for less then a 59k Thanks Neil

well I've since changed the way I disclose pricing based on viewer suggestions. I do always list the price that is on the dealer's window. in this case the winnebago travato's price was higher *at this dealer*. the reality is that many other dealers had much lower prices so it was unfair of me to not disclose that. I now disclose that in my reviews. I'll say something to the effect "But I've seen dealer prices at the time of this video for as low as …" that would have cleared up this confusion about the Pleasureway pricing being lower than Winnebago's because it's not.

What's with the "MCD" shades? They look like step backwards, to me. My bedroom, back in the 50's, had roller shades that operated the same way. I much prefer the RV pleated shades with separate day or night portions. The MCD's just seem like a way for RV builders to cheap out on quality and cost.
@Ultramobility5 жыл бұрын
well I've had both pleated and mcd. I much prefer the mcd over the pleated. much easier to operate. much easier to adjust. easier to clean and they just work well. the pleated ones tend to collect dust (which there is a lot of since you're traveling about) and they are much harder to clean. just my opinion though. the good news is that there are window coverings to suit the needs of almost anyone!

@277kne6 жыл бұрын
Hi, I just watched a review of the 2019? Travato with lithium battery. It was on FitRV. My complaints are about the poor quality. I saw inside the cabinet,that the rear wheel well wasn't covered well. And on the underneath parts of cabinets or bed or wood, it isn't finished. Just raw wood. Can you comment and include Pleasure Way too?
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
Sure enough 277kne. It is true that the quality won't be as high as on the Pleasureway. Winnebago does this in order to keep the costs down. Remember the episode I did on determining what type of buyer you are? If you're a cost focused buyer then the Travato is for you. It has a lot of value for your buck and amongst all the class B vans (Carado excluded because their quality just isn't up to par) the Travato is amongst the lowest price points. If quality is paramount to you then you have to go with Pleasureway. They have the highest quality in my book (outside of custom builds). But you're going to pay for that quality. Pleasureway is also among the highest priced. You can go for something like the Lexor which is similar to the Travato as its built on the Promaster platform. It will cost you $10k plus more than the Travato but you'll get a much higher quality van. It's good that you're noticing and looking for the telltale signs of quality : underneath cabinets; behind doors; poking and looking inside things. This is how you determine the true quality of a van, not what you see on the surface. It sounds like you're motivated by quality in which case I'd recommend looking at PleasureWay.
@reginacarmel6 жыл бұрын
Ultramobility Also a possible consideration, depending on how long one wishes to keep the RV: how the Pleasure Ways hold their value. With all the good fine tuning now occurring in Class Bs, one might begin rv-ing in one type/brand/year to learn and decide if one is enjoying the lifestyle and then use that experience to upgrade/fine tune to a subsequent, more appropriate RV. What costs more may just be the most economical in the long run.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
It's true. One may only keep the RV for a couple of years (hey not sure why no one is leasing them like cars!) Maybe I should start that business! In any case if you only keep it a couple years then maybe quality matters less and you can live with things like stapled cabinetry. On the other hand all motorhomes get hammered in value as soon as you drive them off the lot. The Pleasureways tend to hold their value better because of their quality and their rarity but not by much.
@reginacarmel6 жыл бұрын
Ultramobility Since everything is driven by supply and demand - and it is now High Demand Season - hard to find the best RVs at truly attractive prices. So much also depends on from whom one purchases. Would love to see more from consumers about their good - and bad - experiences. Trolling the message boards for that. Winnebago needs to offer the same “K” floor plan in the Transit to boost its sales. Quality of the chassis is lacking in Promaster. Front wheel drive has its limitations in hauling a constant heavy load. Powertrain options are non-existent with the Promaster.

I own a new travato and must agree with another viewer that there will be IMMEDIATE problems, LOTS :( things will come loose like the black tank control pull arm OMG within the first two weeks.......IMPORTANT it was installed wrong at the factory- covered but takes months to be seen! leaks everywhere you are not expecting, look for them, cabinets latches and draws failed completely and i was dainty with using them at all- screws were too small and the draws are actually placed in wrong on the giders causing failures.ALL......... ROAD TREK for quality is DEFINITELY the way to go or Pleasure way-thats why winnebago only gives a 12 month warranty because they are hoping you will not use it for 12 months than you OWN the cost to repair and rest assure they will glady say its out of warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The good thing is its cheaper than most and if you are VERY handy your will fair well with this coach. atleast the gas engine is dependable:)
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
wow, Mike thanks for sharing your experiences. I hope I am not misdirecting people when I endorse the Travato as the best lowcost campervan! I say that because while its quality may be poor it is better than say the Carado which is visibly much worse. As you say the good thing is that you pay tens of thousands of dollars less than a comparative van from Roadtrek or Pleasureway. If you could have picked up a Pleasureway Lexor for say $100k would you have done that?

should i buy the travato or the zion??? also whats with the small refrigerators? not convenient for people who want to boondocks for longer periods... which class b has the largest fridge? thanks for the vids been very useful as i search for my class b
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
i like the travato a lot but as i mentioned in today's live video stream i'm not endorsing any manufacturers or their vans if they offer only a one year warranty. i just think that is absurd. because of that i have to recommend the zion which comes with a 6 year warranty. having said that you need to really look at the quality however. ensure that you know what you're buying. the size of refrigerators is often times dictated by how much room the coach builder has left in the van. i had a massive 7 cf refrigerator in my cs adventurous and ended up hating it because i never used all that space and it would have been better used for something else. i have a 3.7cf refrigerator in my ascent and like it a lot. i don't generally stock my refrigerator because i'm not boondocking for long periods of time. if you are then you should definitely look for a rig with a larger refrigerator or think about getting a secondary plug in cooler.

I just don't have faith in the Promaster chassis. I don't think it'll have the longevity and reliability that I need from a class B, as FCA has some of the worst initial quality ratings in the auto industry. I also prefer diesel for better fuel economy and durability, as well as towing capacity, if you need it.
@Ultramobility6 жыл бұрын
No doubt that diesel will give you more power and will have a longer life. However, the Promaster in Europe is called the Ducato and has been around for years and years to the delight of many. In fact I believe something like 90% of the vans in Europe are built on the Ducato/Promaster platform. Just and fyi.
@dlg54856 жыл бұрын
That Fiat version isn't exactly the same product that we have here in the US. Our Promaster uses a US only V6 engine, which may not matter to some, but I admit that I'm biased because I've had terrible experience with poor reliability of 2 FCA engines.

Al Yaz Thanks for the input. Isn’t it a pity that one may have to make a choice between either a flawed chassis or flawed RV (cab). At these price levels, pity one cannot get the best of both worlds. Confidently.
@dlg54856 жыл бұрын
I worry about the longevity of a petrol V6 hauling around 10,000 or 11,000 pounds day in and day out. They're just not designed for that. I agree that modern diesel engines can be more problematic, due to the required emissions equipment they have. Particulate filters, sensors everywhere, urea injection systems... it all adds up to more things that can go wrong, but the benefits of diesel (durability, efficiency, torque, easy handling of heavy loads) are all still there. I own a late model diesel car and all I'd say regarding reliability is that it's all about doing proper scheduled maintenance and using a quality fuel additive (I use OptiLube XPD) because diesel fuel in the US is much lower quality than in Europe and other parts of the world. My car has gone 85,000 miles without a single reliability issue.

There are only two seat belts in the past years models of the Travato 59K (driver and passenger) and zero seat belts in the back; they called it a "Couples Coach". The newer model 59K does have two seat belts on one of the benches now, bringing the total number of seat belts to four. winnebagoind.com/products/class-b/2016/travato/specifications

Not true - only 2 belted position in the back. The layout get's tiresome after a while - you either suffer with narrow beds, or fiddle with making up the big bed. Refrigerator is on the floor, so bending over to get stuff out. Showering is bothersome as you have to fiddle with a convoluted shower curtain.
