Synopsis
Pierre and the NS continue on our quest for a picture of how Homer is using
the auto (Self) in The Iliad.
As before, we are guided by Barbara's great work identifying these in Book 10.
Pierre has us divide the occurrences of auto/self into two groups:
* Those occurrences, which when interpreted to mean 'Self' (and not just himself, itself, themselves, etc.) can clearly be seen to elevate the meaning of their context, and
* Those occurrences which are harder to see this, and which we will call “puzzles”.
Can we get a wholeness, unity, or gestalt to all these occurrences?
All the way up and down: Even Zeus has (a) Self. And everything down to the
lowest, as well.
What was Zeus' purpose in setting up this whole war? Was it to reveal to
humans The Self?
