Despite the re-badging haters, Alex nailed it. This car is a pragmatic and needed inclusion. Until the Tesla this year, the RX 350 was the best selling luxury car in America. Lexus expects this car to outsell even the RX. For someone who wants a RELIABLE and sensible small luxury car with great mileage (rather than a buzzy tin box), this luxury entry was a long time coming. It’s a Lexus in every regard. Lexus has a reputation for NEVER rebadging but instead truly differentiating above the Toyota’s. This car will be a sales hit; that’s pretty much the bottom line. And don’t hate a car for an economical engine or a small back seat, just buy a car that suits your purpose. This platform is a Toyota CH-R with a Corolla drivetrain. This car is for Corolla Hatch people who choose to pay for a Lexus. Not a bad idea when Corolla’s sell in the millions.

The RX is the best selling luxury SUV. When they talk about Tesla in sales comparisons, they are talking about ALL Tesla combined. All Tesla cars are NOT SUVs. I absolutely LOVE my Lexus UX 250h. I love it every moment I drive it. In fact, the relative (and I emphasize "relative") lack of "aggressive" acceleration (it's plenty aggressive for me!) reminds me in a more existential way that it's the journey that matters, not the destination. When I get to work (in a mostly down hill trek, catching green lights) and the MPG is 51...yeah, I LOVE this car. Most times, it's over 40. That's pretty darn OK with me too!

It feels like it was made with me in mind. Not too long (like ES), not too small. Very comfortable, quiet, fuel efficient, reliable just to mention a few. Two seconds slower in acceleration from 0 to 60 m/h could mean something on the race track but not on the streets of Chicago. I'm very happy with my purchase. I don’t get why people are so negative about this vehicle. Owning this car for over a month now here is a list of I have experienced with the UX 250h luxury package. The e-all wheel drive works well in winter conditions ( I live in Canada) giving you traction when you needed. This is not a performance car in any way but is fast enough for what it is and handling is just matched to the car as well. This is not a family vehicle, if you have two small children you may be okay cargo is limited. Interior of the car does not scream luxury on all the sense of the word but is nicely finished and the instrumentation very well laid out. The big plus is that it takes regular gas compared to the turbo engines that take premium.
@rightlanehog31515 жыл бұрын
R.M. I think the main objections to the UX stem from the perception that the performance and functionality fail to match the price. Alex is a very fair-minded, mature reviewer and he can't get over these deficiencies either. Although it should be far more reliable than the European competition, it is no more reliable than Toyota's other offerings. I have no use for a rocket but surely a Lexus has to be quicker than an ordinary Corolla? Having said all that, you did not buy a UX to please others you bought it to please yourself. I hope you enjoy it for a long time.

Right Lane Hog I agree with you regarding Alex’s reviews, they are the best non biased on you tube that’s why I’m subscribed to his channel. I don’t know what exactly dictates the price on a vehicle. I doubt very much is dollar per feature or horsepower. But I can tell you that as far as luxury vehicles goes part of what you pay for is the name alone. Now if it was me I would be probably be happy with a manual transmission Corolla. But my wife just loves her UX, the exterior design, interior layout, size and drivetrain. She does not care much about power and speed that’s why she traded her 2015 Lexus NX for this one. Like on any car it has it’s compromises of course, there’s no perfect car. @MH-qk6in5 жыл бұрын
I disagree completely. If you're even comparing them like this, then the UX is definitely not for you. They price out near identical, $3k difference, but you get the same fuel economy. You get more luxury, but most important your value with a Lexus label will retain on trade in. RAV4 will be mass, and the interior still looks blah, like a cheap economy thing. So to even be putting the 2 side by side says you're not the target at all. It's not for you, and that's OK. It's definitely for me, and this video made me decide. The driving pleasure alone of this vs a RAV4 is awesome. So Right Lane Hog isn't doing the homework (assuming it's a woman). Why? She didn't look at the details.

Took my wife to a Toyota dealer to check out the new RAV4. She liked it but fell IN LOVE with the UX for roughly the same price. The RAV4 is roomier and more practical, but the UX feels more “special”. Ended up putting a deposit down on the UX250H. Do not disregard brand cache on par with BMW with Lexus’s history of reliability and resale.
@normt54635 жыл бұрын
If you worried about resale I think you should have went with last gen RAV4 instead of Lexus. There are probably no good deals on the new RAV4. Lexus looses it value just like any other luxury vehicle. So I wouldn't believe the wive's tale about Lexus holding their value. Residual values are set by the banks and the food chain of auction and dealerships just play along to make as much money as they can out the consumers. Edmunds long term test of the Lexus GS loosing over 1/3 of it's value from MSRP. "Resale and Depreciation: We accumulated 20,940 miles on our 2013 Lexus GS 350. Edmunds' TMV® Calculator valued the vehicle at $47,431 based on a private-party sale. The market did not seem to support this price, as CarMax offered us $40,000 and the best we could muster from a private partywas $41,000. This made for 30-percent depreciation from our paid price of $58,377. We were disappointed
@joa85935 жыл бұрын
This is an interesting point of view. I know in other industries Japanese firms have realized women are a very powerful untapped economic force and are shifting focus to them. I personally think this is total crap compared to most of the Toyota line, not to mention luxury competitors, but perhaps Toyota has a market in mind for this vehicle. Of course women have individual variation, but as a group they have superior vision and are generally more risk adverse than men so a vehicle that prioritizes design and reliability like this Lexus might be well served marketing to women. Regarding vision, there's evidence that all women have finer ability to differentiate color than men, but they also have the potential for tetrachromatic vision, meaning they have a 4th type of cell to see color that men can't have (men with the tetrachromatic vision gene are actually colorblind...)
@Ravenankh5 жыл бұрын
I guess that's it. I thought the RAV4 would have been a better vehicle overall, but the UX provoked a more emotional response. To her, the UX was akin to a designer purse or shoes where the RAV4 was like 12-pack of socks at Costco. The UX makes a statement while the RAV4 blends in.

Think of this as a sports car with room. Perfect for two people but capable of carrying 4 in reasonable comfort, but you won't buy it for rear seat room, so who cares. So it's not big, but very comfortable and high quality materials inside. I'm 6-3 and find the seats very comfortable. Acceleration is quite adequate (I have the 250h), so who cares if it's second slower since you rarely floor it anyway. And I'm routinely getting 45+, so I find that worthy of consideration as I appreciate economy of operation. Plus reliability ought to be weighted a bit more than it seems to be. Anyway, I like it and feel it's worth the price.

Yes, for the true cost of a car factor in gas mileage, maintenance, and repairs along with resale value and I think you’ll find that this vehicle is less than half the cost of it’s European rivals and is the intelligent choice for this type of vehicle. If you want something faster and better handling then you should look at something like an Acura Integra. Also, with a proper set of snow tires the e-AWD is plenty good enough in snow and don’t forget you won’t have the rather expensive change of rear differential oil to deal with.

Alex, this is the 1st review in the rain I have ever seen. Thumbs up for you👍👍. It's basically a very expensive dressed up Corolla. So help me out here... Why do people complain about the acceleration of hybrids? They are DESIGNED to be fuel efficient, not racecars. That's the one reason I don't own a hybrid yet because I'm not to that point in my life yet where I don't care about get up and go. 😂 With that being said, almost every reviewer here in America knocks hybrids for not being fast. You can't have it both ways, IMO.

To spend $ 34,000 on a car only to praise the 40 mpg is not very smart for a buyer. If you care about MPG, then it means the cost of the car is much more important. 20k, 25k is the range I would recommend going, with similar MPG. If you want to spend 34k on a small car, then go ahead it's your money. But for 34k you can get much much better options, including full size cars or medium size SUV's at only minimal extra MPG usage. Great review as always Alex!
@squidproquo22415 жыл бұрын
@Kromer0 if this car would have been only about the mpg your comment would have made sense. ... however what the heck are you talking about, where did you get that idea is a mystery. If just being able to type words on the computer the one that you have wouldn't be a smart choice because you are using an unnecessarily expensive computer for that purpose. It is not very smart to buy a very powerful computer and use it for light work.
@valdius855 жыл бұрын
Are you against choice? Just because someone can afford "luxury" car doesn`t mean the priority is speed. Some people like quiet and comfortable interior in a car that does not break. This is what that Lexus offers. Some people care about ecology - IMAGINE THAT!!! Some people do not like low cars - easy to scratch even in the city. This model is over designed for my taste but it still make sense for a lot of buyers without families who do a lot of commuting.

@valdius855 жыл бұрын
They might depending on customers asking for it. The new platform is ready for eAWD. That was mentioned by Toyota on one of the YT videos. Personally, I think it is great idea. There is no AWD mechanical system to maintain. According to Alex (RAV4 video) it kicks in early. It offers good millage. It is what I need most of the time on my trips when the wheels start spinning while starting on wet tarmac up hill ;) I also dream about 3.5l hybrid eCVT from Highlander on LC 150 (Prado). The rest should of course stay as it is with mechanical 4WD. This, apparently, might happen when Toyota upgrades their body on frame architecture.
