It's sad that injuries are such a real and serious problem the human body is so complicated and pushing it to it's limits is an awesome yet risky business, I hope Brian Shaw never forgets he'll always have a massive following no matter where he places because we've come to love him as a person just as much as his accomplishments.

@@tolkienfan4815 I've been following Shaw for a while and he has done this sport great justice and publicity via the journal of his effort and dedication. Hafi and his team have done amazing publicity work especially with his appearances in Game of Thrones appearances, his collaboration with Larry Wheels etc... but for pure dedication to this sport, Shaw takes the prize. In recognition of thousands of hours of training, meals and prep make it hard to see an injury. Fucking sucks...

@deathlis
@deathlis 5 жыл бұрын
@@bigtxsdude Factoring in how strong Brian is, and how ready he was/injury free this time around, that doesn't look like just a practice issue; not when you consider how low he placed compared to the more inexperienced guys. Also not when you consider how he trains each event for months to prepare. We may not have seen videos of it, but you can be sure he practiced it a lot. It seems far more likely this was due to being injured on that last elephant bar lift. I'm hoping it was just a twinge or something a good nights rest will help, but no way he placed that low in the rankings outside of injury. Really, really hoping it was something minor, and he'll smash the events tomorrow. Honestly, considering how many hamstring injuries that fucking bar has caused this year, I hope they throw it out in future competitions. That whip is obviously way too dangerous at those weights for anyone who hasn't got an elephant bar of his own to practice on first.

I looked up the husafell stone carry during the live stream, so I wasnt surprised that Thor won in the end. He managed to carry the stone 90 meters in 2017, shattering the 25 year old world record by 20 meters. Seems to be an event he excels at, but I think the attempt at the 501kg and the certanty to beat Shaw with ease here, might have made it harder for him (and of course you cant replicate world records whenever you want). Impressed by Novikov, because that carry was a big statement to the other athletes.

I think Thor is the strongest man on the planet right now, Shaw shouldn't retire as he is the only one who could challenge. If wsm or arnolds have certain events it would make the contest closer ie truck pull, pressing, etc, also Thors technique is poor for stone to shoulder but he's still good at it using pure strength, if you look at Kileskowski or Licics stone to shoulder they have much better technique. If Thor improves this with a few events and stays injury free, no one will stop him for years though.

So heartbreaking for Brian, I just hope that he's having a bad day and hasn't done something more serious like injuring himself. It was unfair that the stage broke before his turn and he had to wait after being hyped up.

Just look at Dubai. Stages always breaking around Brian. At least this time it didn't cost him points though. Honestly that stage breaking under him in Dubai should have called for a re-do or something.

If you watch Brian’s last deadlift carefully you can see something fail in his left knee, it’s what caused him to fall forward. Looks like his hamstrings damaged.

If Shaw isn't injured, he may be able to take the log. However, even in the best-case scenario, he's way behind Bjornsson, who's not likely to do badly anywhere, so how to make up for the point difference? The competition is very strong this year. Kieliszkowsky and Licis are top contenders for a podium place as well, but the first is better at overhead... Maybe the Pole is going to just snatch it :) Well, for the next event the Mountain is going last, which is very nice on the Wheel of Pain (although there is actually nothing nice about it). He just needs to push for the win, whereas the others have to give everything.

A few years ago I pulled the tendon in two fingers trying to carry a big rock. Carrying uneven objects can be really risky if only some of your fingers slip and then the rest get overloaded.

Is it just me or did Novikov gripped the stone differently than the other guys? Seemed like he had the smallest corner facing down, while Thor, for example, had it on his right shoulder.

Novikov carried the stone in a different orientation than the other people (small pointy side facing down). It might be why he did better than most.

Novikov held the stone in a different orientation than everyone else, freeing his hips to move better and preventing his leg motion from making the stone "wiggle" from his grip. Not sure of that was smart lifting or luck though.
