@@bigtxsdude Factoring in how strong Brian is, and how ready he was/injury free this time around, that doesn't look like just a practice issue; not when you consider how low he placed compared to the more inexperienced guys. Also not when you consider how he trains each event for months to prepare. We may not have seen videos of it, but you can be sure he practiced it a lot. It seems far more likely this was due to being injured on that last elephant bar lift. I'm hoping it was just a twinge or something a good nights rest will help, but no way he placed that low in the rankings outside of injury. Really, really hoping it was something minor, and he'll smash the events tomorrow. I looked up the husafell stone carry during the live stream, so I wasnt surprised that Thor won in the end. He managed to carry the stone 90 meters in 2017, shattering the 25 year old world record by 20 meters. Seems to be an event he excels at, but I think the attempt at the 501kg and the certanty to beat Shaw with ease here, might have made it harder for him (and of course you cant replicate world records whenever you want). I think Thor is the strongest man on the planet right now, Shaw shouldn't retire as he is the only one who could challenge. If wsm or arnolds have certain events it would make the contest closer ie truck pull, pressing, etc, also Thors technique is poor for stone to shoulder but he's still good at it using pure strength, if you look at Kileskowski or Licics stone to shoulder they have much better technique. If Thor improves this with a few events and stays injury free, no one will stop him for years though.

However, even in the best-case scenario, he's way behind Bjornsson, who's not likely to do badly anywhere, so how to make up for the point difference? The competition is very strong this year. Kieliszkowsky and Licis are top contenders for a podium place as well, but the first is better at overhead... Maybe the Pole is going to just snatch it :) Well, for the next event the Mountain is going last, which is very nice on the Wheel of Pain (although there is actually nothing nice about it). Strenght? It's mainly a question of technique (in lifting) and cardio (in walking) i think, but nice event

Isn’t it a bit unfair, considering that Thor is the only one who has had the opportunity to practice with the real stone on a regular basis?

@@robertheilmeier2671 are you all fucking morons?! it was said during event that this stone is monument and it is not possible to lift it. nobody trained with that stone! but thor is a man, he is smart in his training and also during competition. shaw is pussy, his main training is overeating. he has fucking low test imho, he has not fighter's spirit as thor. and thor is not first strongman in his family, which could give him some extra motivation and so, tradition could be source of power too...

how did noone mention Novikov holding the stone sideways. technique clearly won, Thor is just too goddamn strong

Thor just monstered that stone. Impressive.

Novikov held the stone in a different orientation than everyone else, freeing his hips to move better and preventing his leg motion from making the stone "wiggle" from his grip. Not sure of that was smart lifting or luck though.
