Sweet technology demonstrator. This was never intended to be a mass production vehicle. The amount of engineering and technology and quality put into them is why they cost what they do. In my opinion, this competes with an NSX buyer demographic. Latest technology hybrid powertrains, but the BMW i8 seems to have the higher quality standard interior. I would likely buy an NSX. They are about the same price.

In addition to the $250 a year you save in gas, you can save even more by taking your i8 on every shopping trip. The trunk is so small you can’t buy much LOL

Trivia fact for you guys, the I-8 came out in 2017, however the I-8 was in development all the way back in 2008, I was watching the Detroit automotive show on tv, and saw the I-8 concept on tv, and the ceo at bmw called it BMW Intelidrive model 8, and Tesla just came out and one of the people who interviewed the ceo said when will this car come to show rooms? And he said we don’t know but we hope for 2017-2019, but at this time as you can see the technology for hybrid cars are still in just the developmental stages with the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius only being a few years old at best, and then the Tesla S model was just in development at the time; so they said to save there reputation and the health of the I series cars they purposely delayed it until a few years later, and the X-1 came out in 2014 just a year or two years before the I-8 did..

A triple WOW car for sure! But the triple WOW sticker price is more than my house is worth. Won’t see any of these in this neighborhood. Very much a status symbol, because you can buy cars that do more for a LOT less cash. There’s a lot of cars that get 50 mpg out there now, and a new Corvette can be had for about a third of what this thing costs. I don’t think my local mechanic could work on this thing either!! Lou, you should stick to collector, classic and muscle cars.

So who did BMW build this car for? (Or the hardtop i8,for that matter.) It's far too sporty and impractical for the environmental buyer, No good for the +60 country club set (difficult ingress/egress, no room for clubs), and doesn't really qualify as a supercar by normal performance metrics. I hope it finds a market, but I can't help fearing that it will depreciate quicker than your aunt Marge's Nissan Maxima.

@@loucostabile I've owned several new BMW's and had nothing but problems with them. If you just Have to have a BMW, get one through a lease or sell it before the warranty expires. Even then, they're still a troublesome time consuming nightmare. The 2019 BMW i8 Roadster is a beautiful car, but Honestly, I would enjoy a 1966 VW bug more than that overpriced aggravation. Have yourself a great day Lou Costabile and thank you for your response.
