no kidding - I have a Genesis 5.0 Rspec (429HP) and I swear every person (male or female) in 1 of the 100 different cute utes are on my a$$ all the time. Pretty sure most manufactures especially ones with a 4banger engine make the throttle response very touchy on initial tip in.

All ford needed to do with this car is give it the 3.0 engine with 400 and have a manual transmission as the base transmission if you want an auto it’s 1000 bucks. Then do something special with the rear diff That’s all they had too fucking do. It’s a lazy re badge that’s all it is. They didn’t do anything to the engine but add more boost & timing They really tried

If FORD got their act together they would have the proper personel running the show. I see American companies becoming too focused on being politically correct when it comes to hiring people that shouldn't be in the industry. Now we have quotas that you need to have so many female engineers and managers and minorities in this mix. And the result is bland unispiring products. I will take a 'Grumpy' Jenkins at the helm rather than some Christina Aquino who is really qualified to operate a taco stand. And this folks is the demise of the american auto industry.

I am SO glad you called out the bullshit with such a direct rant. It's so exhausting to see marketing spin stuff so bad it creates a false vision and narrative of the product. It is a failure on all fronts when it has the wrong marketing. It tells a whole different story with dissonance. And calling out the fake exhaust noise was great. I noticed it when you revved it and was like "I gotta say something about this if he doesn't" but you thankfully did, and made sure to state how bad it is. So thank you. Let's keep calling them out on it. I just can't believe any company needs to hide the original sound of a V6 in the first place!
@Vicobop
@Vicobop 5 жыл бұрын
Also yeah 50 grand, damn. Ford has been trying to overreach with SUV pricing for a while and in Canada it's a little worse than the US. It's mind boggling that people still buy into it. The Platinum trims especially are frustrating to look at because despite the near 60K tag of the Edge and Explorer, you can STILL spot the base trim's interior bits that may actually be behind the competition's interior appointments. Attention to detail to switchgear quality, more things being automatic/electric, lighting differences, all these come to mind.

First rule of business: "Underpromise and Overdeliver. NEVER the other way around." That motto should be tattoed on the forehead of every Ford executive and engineer responsible for the Edge ST. My wife and I looked seriously at the Edge Sport last year. I liked the exterior styling and the size. At 188" long it was more maneuverable in suburban traffic and parking lots than some other midsize SUV's we considered, especially compared to the humungous Mazda CX-9. Overall passenger room and cargo capacity were good compared to some other rivals, especially the much larger Mazda. No third row of seats but as a small family we could get along without the extra passenger room. I liked the 2.7L V6 twin turbo engine. In terms of straight line acceleration it was impressive. The MSRP (as I recall) was around $48K but I could have purchased a fully loaded version for about $40K. At that price it was worth considering. On the hand, the family SUV is my wife's daily driver so there were other considerations. The interior was 50 Shades of Gray. Not objectionable but nothing exciting. The dash stretched out for what seemed like 20 feet in front of the driver. My wife, a sailor, said she felt like she was piloting a long outboard skiff from the stern. For my part I found it odd (at best) that a "Sport" model had a tiny, barely readable tach tacked onto the far left side of the instrument console. We didn't select the Edge Sport but I was intrigued when the Edge ST became available. What does it offer compared to the Edge Sport? Lots of "ST" badges. A slight bump in power but slightly slower 0-60 performance due to a weight gain. An eight speed transmission whose purpose appears to be nothing but keeping up with the competition with the shift lever replaced by a dial. Finally, to add insult to injury, the same tiny, barely readable tach crammed like an afterthought in the instrument cluster. Oh yeah, the MSRP is several thousand dollars more than last year's Sport apparently to pay for the badges. I'm not an "ST" aficionado but if I were I'd be offended. It appears that Ford opted to invest its efforts and resources wholly in the new Explorer. That's sad.

My dad has a 2016 Explorer and after sitting in the Edge ST it interests him even with all of your valid critiques. But, there aren't many SUVs of it's size with a V6 and seats as comfortable. The Blazer RS is a decent competitor, we'll have to drive both. The Audi Q5 doesn't offer a V6 and has the German maintenance tax; although the interior is vastly superior. The RAV4 TRD is slower than the RAV4 of 2007, CX5 is too small and a little slow, and Porsche is too expensive. So that's kind of who this buyer is for. Not looking for a sports car, but a comfortable, low maintenance cost, 2 row SUV with a V6.

Re-branding this from the Sport to the ST simply makes no sense and was a very poor decision by Ford. Nobody that is a Ford ST enthusiast is going to suddenly purchase this CUV now that it has ST badging, unless they were already in the market for a performance oriented CUV. Anyone in the market for the best performing version of the Edge would just as happily buy it with the Sport moniker. This Edge actually dilutes the ST branding and is an insult to car enthusiasts.

@@66skate A practical choice between a true sports car and boring would be a Golf R, Focus RS or Civic Type R, all of which cost less to buy than the Edge ST and actually deliver an amazing blend of performance and utility. However, for the sake of discussion let's say that a potential customer needed more interior space than a hot hatch could deliver. The sportiest version of the Edge is not a bad choice for a two row crossover but why did Ford have to brand it as an ST? My point is that this doesn't follow the path set by previous ST models in their lineup and it should have just been called the Edge Sport.

I just looked on Hertz used cars’ site, I can find a 2018 4-Runner SR5 with 19k miles, loaded to the gills for $30k less than 20 minutes from my house. I don’t have to deal with a Ford dealership, there’s no bull crap, and I’d have loads more car and an extra $20k leftover to buy fuel and NOT drive a vacuum cleaner.

When I first heard about this vehicle I knew it was all marketing hype. Nothing special here. The instrument cluster is old and outdated. Ford has overused this part to death. I've owned the other two ST's and they were great performers. I also leased an Edge Sport in 2016. It left me luke warm. Quality on the Edge was subpar. Between painted surfaces there were peeling issues. The paint on the bumper under the headlight was peeling as the lower portion of the headlight rested on it. Interior panels didn't fit well. I lease transferred out of this vehicle 6 months later. There are much better options out there.

The Ford vehicles are nice but the quality construction is cheap and the reliability is poor. I had a bad experience with Ford, maybe Ford have improved it, and to spend $50,000 or $55, 000 plus an extended warranty, it's a lots of money for a Ford. Great review and thanks for confirm the poor quality of Ford.

The products themselves have gotten better as far as build quality, but the dealerships still suck, and put all their effort into making the front of the house look good. The service departments still, for the most part, don't even attempt to honor a warranty anymore. I had to leverage a bunch of 1-star reviews and calls to corporate to get my 2017 Fusion Sport with 15k miles in to have a front left wheel hub bearing replaced. No one would touch it because "they couldn't reproduce the problem" and "couldn't afford the time to look into it" but I could always "just bring it back when it breaks".

Ford Edge ST still is the best two row luxury crossover under $200K! Looks better then the RRS and the interior is retro looking that is slowly coming back into vogue. It is an American assembled car and you have to expect these small imperfections. Sure you can buy the RRS SVR or Porsche Cayenne Turbo that has better parts assembling in the interior but then the auto insurance will be much more costly! So go and buy this modern luxurious Ford Edge ST and saving yourself a $100K+!

I'm not sure I really get the performance angle here. An Audi Q5 (that actually starts a little cheaper here in Canada) will at least match the Edge ST to 60, with a much better interior for good measure. And you can option an Edge ST to within a couple of grand of an SQ5... I just don't get Ford's pricing on performance models. The Focus RS flew off the lots at 50k here, then Ford bumped it up to 60k overnight for the '18 model and suddenly it wasn't selling because now it was in the same price bracket as cars like the Audi S4 or a nicely optioned BMW 340i. Insanity.

Well we bought a 2020 and like it. Main reason was to flat tow behind our Motorhome, V6 twin turbo power, comfortable seats, lots of interior space. It’s been trouble free, transmission does clunk into drive occasionally but still under warranty. So it checked all our boxes for a flat tow vehicle.

I bought an off-lease 2019 Edge Titanium recently, and it does what I want. It's got a nice feature set, and it looks nice and has good appearance features/decent handling, and I went for the 20" wheels with nice tires, but it's still modest - it's not what I would call a modern "luxury" SUV, even my parents' 2018 CX-9 has more comfort and features. But the Edge is practical and feels more than nice enough for me. It was a responsible choice at its price. The 8-speed makes more sense with the 2.0T I think, because it provides enough ratios for acceleration. The 2.0T is so quiet, I have trouble hearing it to hear what it's doing unless the audio system is off.

The ST badge on the Edge is like having the S-line badge on an A4. For the price you pay, you could have gotten a real S4. If you look outside of the CUV market, 50k would get you a lot. Golf R, S4, Boxster/Cayman. If you look used or CPO, you can do even better.
@ferenc-x7p
@ferenc-x7p 5 жыл бұрын
True, but Ford cannot make anything like a Golf R or S4, because the Golf R and S4 are available. They go the safe route of selling an SUV or Cross utility whatever they call this soap box, because 2018-19 are the golden age of SUVs all over again, until the next oil price gouging hits.

The Edge is a fine car for $30,000. It's a horrible car at $50,000. The same with the Explorer. A $35,000 Explorer is a decent car. A $55,000 Explorer is ludicrous. Oh, and guess what. Golf clubs will NOT fit crossways in the trunk of the Edge. It's too narrow. So getting 4 people and their golf bags in the car is next to impossible. Again, that's just ludicrous. FOMOCO has mastered the art of low-rent interiors. I’ve owned a few Ford cars over the years and the interiors scream “vanilla ice cream rental car”. My 1995 Sable LS (the better trim level) was an ocean of monotone beige plastic. No chrome, wood, no detail work...it was literally one solid chunk of beige. It felt like an unsavory 1980’s Taco Bell inside. Based on the new Ranger, Edge, and others - not much has changed.

I just recently purchased this vehicle. It’s a 2019 with 8500 miles on it. I appreciate everything this guy has said in the video. However, I do believe he missed some points that points towards the vehicles upside. For its price range, you wont find another vehicle in this category that has the features of this vehicle. Panoramic sunroof, lane assist, blah blah blah. It’s decent on gas, it tows a decent amount at 3500 lbs (Good enough for a 20ft pontoon with trailer, which is what I will be towing, but would recommend the trailer having its own brakes). It’s also pretty to look at. The 21” wheels are a must imo it really looks great. Also, vehicle has a high predicted reliability. The negatives? Definitely the transmission. It was clearly not as focused as I wish it would be. But if your not gonna push it to the limit and whip corners...its just fine but yet noticeable. Vehicle is quick though! Another is the sound system. I was excited for 12 speaker premium audio, but its not good. It’s not premium. But it does the job and is right around average car audio quality maybe a bit better. Vehicle is fun to look at, fun to drive for non enthusiasts, and is loaded with features. The reliability aspect had me signing across the line as well. You can find one used with low miles for much less now and I’m happy about my purchase.
