2019 Honda CB300R : Retro meets Tron : PowerDrift

While most modern classics are still stuck in the 1970s, the Honda CB300R is a retro motorcycle with a modern twist. With a neo-retro styling that steals the spotlight everywhere it goes, modern suspension and brakes and a familiar 30bhp 286cc engine, it seems to cover all bases. But then, is this enough to justify the Rs 2.41 lakh price tag?

CB300R is a proper neo-retro and has got Honda's reliability. Hit that Like button if you'd put your money on this. And remember to tell us below, what you think about the motorcycle.

Price is one thing, but if honda could get the faired version of this. People will go mad. Upside down forks, international product and everything honda. When bmw touches 4 lakhs mark, this price is not so skyhigh. After saying all these, i just got my interceptor, is that price justified? Not exactly, it has not so upto the mark components and the rear suspension bolt got lose, and the mirrors are out of alignment. But still the engine worth every penny. So ultimately its not the price, its the mindset you ride with.

We would agree with you @Abhishek, if the two are considered purely from a pricing perspective then the RE Conti GT does make sense but on the other hand, you have the Honda offering you a motorcycle that's neo-retro in styling that brings modern LED headlights, weighs nearly 50kg lesser thus compensating the power deficit with agile, sporty handling and decent performance that'll work well in the city and on the highway.
@powerdriftofficial

So true and it's also what one is looking for, the appeal of an Interceptor may not be attractive to someone looking for a modern design language and lightweight performance. That said, the Indian Market does favour full fairings over street fighters and such a motorcycle would surely give Honda an edge over the competition.

Short and sweet video, PD. However as an ex KTM owner who really took care of his bike, I need to add a point here which many fail to bring forth. After sales. Since KTM has way fewer models and number of bikes running around compared to the other brands in this price bracket (other than Kawasaki and BMW), what I had experienced was that the service personnel of KTM had much fewer bikes to deal with on a daily basis. This meant that the bikes got better individual attention. This low number also meant that you could approach and make rapport with the service guys which I cannot say for all the other brands I've experienced. Even though the KTMs are a bit more heavy on maintenance, the fact that I could drop my bike off and get it back in an hour or three from the service center with every problem thoroughly addressed was a huge relief. The only regular botheration was that the chain started coming loose every 500kms and occasionally the RC 390 loved to create rattles from places you never knew existed! I wish manufacturers put up separate service centers for their premium offerings just to manage the crowd control. This would make me pick up the new Honda in a jiffy since I'm a short guy and the low weight is a huge boon in the city. I remember having to keep the family RE for two whole days just for the regular service.

Expensive or not, more power or not, this is a better bike to live with than any other competitor bike. Honda is a synonym for reliability which you definitely can't expect the same from Bajaj or KTM. If this fits into your budget, just buy it without thinking twice, your wallet,back and ass will thank you. I am not a Honda fan, never even owned a Honda but would definitely chose this if give a choice.
@powerdriftofficial

i would really suggest you take a test ride of both the bikes and then decide. I have done so and i can report back, that light weight of CB300R makes it quite agile and a treat to handle. Especially if you are going to spend more time riding the bike within city limits. Both bikes are very well built and i like both of em equally. Both have some shortcomings that you need to live with. In Short, Interceptor feels like you are trying to wrestle a hippo into submission. CB300R feels like you are riding a greyhound.

Talking about the Honda CB300R, the design is not a breath of fresh air but it can still be your daily freshness. This bike is something you would like to hop on everyday & ease out in the city. It can even be your weekend getaway up the hilly stretch with a little light off-roading. The power may not seem much on papers, but again practically, being almost 25 kgs lighter than the CBR 250, it has that extra punch & can be your daily dose of refinement as well. Coming with a price tag of Rs.2.41 lakhs, it might be a little heavy on your pockets, but someone wanting that Honda badge for a long time & had just one option can now go ahead with the CB300R to get that extra attention. Again coming to the point my friends, is the price justified?? Well I think it is.

The Duke and the Dominar still trump the Honda in Power/Weight Ratio. And the Dominar just creams everyone in the Power/price ratio offering 12.56 PS/kg for a lakh. The Duke pair come in #2 and #3 at 10.98 PS/kg and 9.91 PS/kg offering the next best bang for the buck followed by the Jawa42, Apache RR 310 and Continent GT 650. It's only after this competition do the Honda's feature with the Honda CB 300R followed by the CBR 250. So, overpriced? Definitely, yes. But all of this is only on the surface. Honda's have always commanded a premium and have given us an equivalent for the quality they have to offer in terms of almost zero to nil vibrations and no heating. Something which none of the competition can boast of. After all, you get what you pay for.

You guys are in tune with the bikes the industry and the whole damn trend. Its like you guys know without asking. Something PD is known for. Shumi does not do justice. Slowly and steadily PD's whole philosophy of showcasing has changed. I'm about to buy a CB300R with a blind faith in Honda just coz I like it. Not because you guys could sell it to me. I wasted weeks for this review. Shumi your hero review was the worst so far. Apna show kharab karo dusro ka nai. Soon PD army seems to dissolve.

is a bike with a high initial investment, low maintenance and very safe and fun to ride, it is a bike for a very specific target audience, those who evaluate, investment, maintenance, durability (maintenance every 12,000 km), that is few problems, a lot of fun and very safe. The low weight means less injuries and the ABS with inertia sensor, makes it the safest bike you can buy

this is truely a nice bike and a nice product from HMSI after a very long time. (Thank God for that) Else we were destined to get Honda 4G 5G 6G and a resounding NaG for upto date bikes. I test rode this bike and its a Complete package. It has all the bell and whistles that you would need in today's time. The 2 Major things being USD forts and the Slip and Assist Clutch. The assist part is VERY VERY important. It makes a lot of difference when you are gunning down. The Claimed Milage is 39 for city and if i get anything upto that, i would be happy with as its quite close to my current bike FZ16. Its closest rival, Dominar returns 25. I have used Dominar for a month and i was bleeding money for petrol during that time. And did i mention its Light and agile for handling. That's a Must have when you are going to use the bike within the city for a major amount of time.

It truly is a special motorcycle. It's a Honda, it's the most beautiful two wheels this side of 7 lacs (till the Husqys arrive) and it's a very good package. Did i mention? It's a Honda! Mr. Shumi, you are a class of your own. The video is crisp and you know exactly everything you want to know to purchase this. Maybe give a little flak for the smallish fuel tank?. The old Duke 390 got so much of it. Apart from that, Me Gusta! Want more. Lots and lots and lots more.

It looks damn good and since its a Honda you know the build quality is going to be top notch.

That's probably what Honda is banking on too. It's sprightly in the city and most owners will be spending a lot of time with it in that environment, for which 30bhp, along with the light handling, is ample to effortlessly splice through traffic.

Sooo... A bike that costs more than the D390 but isn't as powerful nor having even half the features... Or a bike that is 1 lakh more expensive than the Dominar400 which can do highway rides and cruise just as easily for longer with a bigger tank, or a bike that doesn't even get tubeless tyres is VFM for you??. Let me correct you. The engine is VFM. Everything else is still RE level chutzpah! The INT650 is significantly flawed.
@roshanthomas9805
@roshanthomas9805 5 жыл бұрын
@@aamir.khan.1991 @Aamir Khan Firstly, the 650s make more power and torque than a D390. They cost the same and you get one extra cylinder with the 650. I have no idea how you called a D390 VFM but it seems like a TFT LCD display,LED headlamps and cheap lightweight plastics all around is what matters to you. The Dominar is definitely value for money and I agree. It's basically a D390 for 3/4th the price. But finally the engine is the heart of the matter and is what I look for in any bike.
@aamir.khan.1991
@aamir.khan.1991 5 жыл бұрын
@UCu-XzQudLiOCLiAlfv23Cgw More power, more torque but way more weight. The 0-60, 0-100 and the top speed runs are better on the D390. One extra cylinder but both are air cooled. Liquid cooling is way more consistent. Throw in the ice coolant and the engine runs cooler than the RE. Switchable ABS for some trail riding and a supermoto mode, both absent on the 650. And you are right. The superb TFT display and the hyper futuristic led lamps borrowed from the super Duke makes my purchase that much more cool. You might think lightweight Plastic as a con but is used exactly for that purpose, lightweight. That cheap plastic makes the Duke 390 single-handedly own the class by a superb power to weight ratio.. And I haven't even mentioned the USD forks with independent function or the standard metzelers that are benchmark for small capacity sport riding. Throw in an aircushion and you can tour on it just as well as the interceptor. So, what I am getting for the a slightly less amount than the interceptor is a machine that is practically faster, slightly better in city, way way better on the twisties, illuminates the road better at night and only marginally inferior on the long haul. I get better equipment by compromising on the engine size (the effect is negated by the light weight anyway). So the D390 is definitely not VFM when you bring the dominar in the picture. It can do a lot of it close enough for much lesser price. But calling interceptor 650 a VFM is a marketing gimmick you seem to have totally fallen for. Bigger engine annnnnd... that's it. The only thing interceptor can do better is torque cruising. You need to redefine your VFM definition.

@acsdarkflare1507 5 жыл бұрын
Depends on your need, if you ride regularly, just buy the Honda. It will be a pleasure to ride such a light bike in city traffic and also definitely more reliable than RE. If you only do breakfast rides or occasional long rides, you can buy the Continental GT. You gotta keep in mind that you have to pay more per service for continental GT as its 650cc, and also the insurance premium will cost you 9-10k per year (0 depreciation). Also you'll get better mileage with the CB300R. My suggestion just buy the Honda if you are buying.

So if it is for your daiky use and occasiknal long rides on decent to excellent roads it is 300R. You can easily eliminate 300f with just a TD of it alongwith 300r and 400z
