I'm in the UK, have a 2017 ninja 650 KRT performance. The akrapovic system sounded standard way too quiet almost standard, I removed the baffle today and now it's silly loud 😂 I can't believe how loud it is now 😂 baffle back in I think 😳

@@Englishbikerdan You know better than me that price also usually reflects quality. In these case, comparing 2 well known manufacturers, i believe you can justify the price diff in favor of Akr. Quality of the steel is better/behaves/ages better in case of Akr.. I, like you had BW products and in 1 week the downpipes aged a lot faster due to temp oscilations of daily usage. I think Akr is the way to go forward. Looks/fits better in the design of your bike. BW had a more generic look in the muffler area

Sounds a bit different than the typical inline-4. The reason is because cylinders 1+2 are paired, cylinders 3+4 are paired, and those pairs are plumbed into the muffler where they blend. Typical inline-4 exhaust systems are 4-2-1 so the pulses exiting the pipe are even. The 1-2/3-4 pairing is similar in effect to Subaru with their unequal length Boxer header pipes making a 4 sound grumbly. Another example was the 2003 Z1000 which paired 1-2/3-4 all the way to separate exhaust tips, with only a crossover pipe beneath. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4G6ZXxqf5J2ftU

However, they don't offer that 2018 model on their website but can be acquired elsewhere new. 1. How has it held up for you? Do you still enjoy it as much as the first day? Did it discolor? Is there another full system you like more for this bike, or wish you would/could have gotten? 2. I can't find a solid answer to this- do you know of any fitment issues of putting this 2018 exhaust on the 2021 model? And this is also catless- correct? Very much appreciated!

I've not felt that it needs it personally. Seems to be plug and play to me. Not saying you couldn't get the air / fuel mixture better with a remap but I wouldn't say it's something you have to do at all.

@@pushdword Interesting, I was always led to believe most bikes run lean from stock to get through the emissions laws and adding a system would make them run even more lean. There is a slight hesitation if you gun it in a higher gear and low revs, so it could be improved if that bothered you. I'll get in on a dyno at some point though to see what's what! Great video and comparison Dan! I'm considering buying same model. I live in Netherlands so not sure how strict people are here on this - are you OK riding without DB killer in general? Did you consider getting catalyst convertor? Do you know the affect on the sound?

Thanks Peter. I didn't get the catalaytic converter for mine. It is really loud without the DB killer though when you rev the bike but it's not too bad doing low rpm stuff. Riding this to Germany though was too loud. In the end I took the system off as I wanted a fully road legal exhaust for my bike. With the DB killer in, this exhaust is very quiet.

You don't need either, but the bike might feel a little better for it.
