Actually quite like it, weird thing, wish you guys had had the opportunity to compare the manual to the automatic. For some f'ed reason you can't have the same luxury trim in the manual as in the automatic! So the automatic that costs 3K more comes with ventilated front seats, I'm not sure, but is there another car in this price segment that comes with standard with ventilated front seats? Also, yes panoramic sunroof, but only the front one opens; the rear one does not. Otherwise really love this car, I can't compare to last years, but this model is fun and practical and also pretty good on gas when it needs to.

I've been having a debate with my friends between this, a base GTI, a Mazda3 Hatchback. All priced very similarly, all very different. The Mazda trades all the performance for luxurious cabin elements, the GTI is a good mix of both (but a pretty outdated cabin/exterior style, and a bit overpriced), and this is... well, a Hyundai. I might just have to get past my negative connotations re: the badge and just buy this, though.

Great review, guys! Honestly you did a great job of thoroughly breaking down where this fits into the craziness of the sport(y) compact segment(s). I definitely have a soft spot for this car, even more so with the subtle changes for 2019/N-Line. The Civic Si and GTI are both so great in their own regard, I'd need to test drive all of them to be able to pick one. But I'm really happy to hear the handling was so respectable for the price!

I dig the exterior. The proportion is on point. It's a very pleasant looking, not overly designed like the civic or somewhat controversial like the Mazda 3 rear end. The interior is typical Hyundai which is not bad. I would like to see a more premium design from Hyundai like what they've done with the palisade and the sonata. otherwise it's a well rounded vehicle.

Holy hell, you guys are at nearly a half-million subscriptions! The sky's the limit, eh? Hyundai has a really interesting offering with the MT base version (in the USA). For those interested in pure driving, the base offering is great. Like the Civic Si, Hyundai leaves out all of the more advanced safety features, in the base model, though. In the USA, buyers are forced into optioning in the 7 speed DCT for 1k USD in order to gain access to a nearly 4k USD option package that includes the nifty panoramic sunroof, more advanced audio, advanced safety features, etc. That bumps the MSRP above 29k USD. The Kelly Blue Book pricing (a US pricing guide for consumers) puts the target price about 2k less. I wish that buyers weren't locked into the DCT in order to obtain the more advanced safety features (VW doesn't hamstring GTI buyers with this bullshit with the 2019 models in the USA). If a buyer in the USA is OK with the DCT (I know nothing of its performance and reliability), then the pricing is competitive with the GTI Rabbit and SE models. The Civic Hatch offerings in the States mimic this optioning bullshxt, as well, requiring a CVT in the models that offer leather and anything nicer than the base audio unit. On the review... I really like clear / legible gauges that allow the driver to see, at the quickest glance, RPM and rate of speed.

@straightpiples never heard of this car till this review, after a LOT of test drives I was looking at the Civic Hatch, but after watching this video I did some searching for this car (not an easy find BTW) I tested it, and instantly fell in love and got one, so a big thanks! Keep the excellent reviews coming, you got my sub! Cheers EH! ;)

Eh technically it's more than those bc Hyundai actually puts a more powerful engine in and tunes the suspension more sporty. The other " Lines " are more of just an appearance package.

The base model in the US is different. First off it costs 24,000 (MSRP), and does not come standard with the Panoramic roof or heated steering wheel. There is only one option (package) that costs $3,800. That package includes a lot of great features like ventilated seats, wireless charging pad, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance and other safety features (things that people really want)....so combined you're looking at 28K for the manual and 30k for the automatic. That’s practically mid-range GTI money. If the base model of this Hyundai came with more standard safety features it would be a much better buy. The GTI has more HP, way more torque, nicer materials (and shockingly a better warranty).
@aarond16235 жыл бұрын
If you try to compare it based on features this would compare to a GTI SE making the Elantra GT N-Line $4,655 cheaper and even then the Elantra has features that you can't get in a GTI. You can't get a manual and the $3800 tech package with the Elantra GT N-Line in the US which is a bummer so you have to get the DCT. VW has a better bumper to bumper warranty at 6 years 72,000 miles vs Hyundai's 5 year 60,000 mile but it also has a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. You can't lose going either way.
@mexkdspEd445 жыл бұрын
Woah idk where in the US you’re shopping but here in Texas these are being advertised around 23k with options and the DCT.
@benvernick5 жыл бұрын
@@aarond1623 The only two features I can think of are the panoramic sunroof and the ventilated seats? Any others that I'm missing? You can't even get ventilated seats on the Golf R, have never understood that. But now you can get them on the new GLI, its very bizarre. I agree with you, can't go wrong, either way, both are great cars. Not 100% sure but I don't think the Hyundai comes with an LSD? I think the best bang for your buck would be to get a one-year-old GTI, let someone else take the hit on the depreciation, and you're still left with a 5-year warranty.
@benvernick5 жыл бұрын
@@mexkdspEd44 I'm referring to the MSRP. Take a look at Hyundai's website. Yes, I know you can get them for well less than that.
@mexkdspEd445 жыл бұрын
@@benvernick If you can get them for well less than that then it kinda defeats the point of harping on the price don't ya think, man? If we're talking about the actual prices you'll pay for these cars you're looking at much less than a mid trim GTI

So here in Australia we have: i30 N-Line with manual/DCT. i30 N-Line Premium DCT only. Trim changes/trinkets are the difference. i30 N manual only with two option packs to make it "premium". i30 Fastback N. Yes that's how's sold and it's manual only.

Love what Hyundai is doing these days. They're making some of the most attractive cars on the road. Stylish without being tacky or obnoxious. Tastefully styled. Their quality is so damn good now, especially considering you're paying thousands less than anything comparable. That's a big deal for most people who aren't made of money or looking to put themselves into more debt than necessary. As for that color combo, man that's so ugly. Granny burgundy over bland monochromatic black. Otherwise, KICK ASS CAR.

These are awesome little cars. You can do some basic bolt on upgrades, maybe a bigger turbo and push 240-270whp and the 1.6 holds very well. One of the best daily’s you can have right now. And since the 2019’s are 5 years old now they have gotten quite a bit cheaper compared to other Hyundais because no one really wants a i4 turbo manual fwd in North America except enthusiasts

Drove this the other day. Loved it but the equipment levels drive me nuts. The one I drove had all the safety equipment except blind spot monitoring (not available in the U.S. this year). Why? So of course there is a blank plug for this missing feature. Then there is a blank plug for the headlight adjustment feature. On the console they have heated and cooled seats (unlike the Kona) but no auto start stop (not in the U.S.) and no heated steering wheel (available in Canada but again not in the U.S.). It feels as if someone at Hyundai U.S. in California just picked things at random to leave off. Driving wise it was awesome but those little feature things make me question pulling the trigger.

Hyundai nailed the red accents in this car. Not over the top and just slightly more than subtle. This is hard to get just right, and they worked it out. Because of that this car comes across better than a GTI... They do need to pump up the power and get it in line with the GTI. But the interior is better.
