2019 Hyundai Veloster N VS 2018 Ford Focus RS | I Drove The Veloster N | He Drove My Focus RS
Is it fair to do a comparison between a Ford Focus RS and a Hyundai Veloster N? Well, it depends on which side you are, I am in the middle, if you own a Focus RS you will not accept such comparison, and if you are a Veloster N owner you think this isn't a fair comparison.
Here is what I like about the Veloster N:
- interior
-exterior
-exhaust sound startup
-seating position
-ride quality
here is what I do not like:
-low torque
-3 doors
-brakes
-seat cover
-no navigation
-rev matching
Overall the Hyundai Veloster N shows that isn't a push over but a true hatchback that can keep up with other hatchbacks.

I know this video is very long, but I had to since we have two cars to compare. The idea here is for both of us to experience each others car, no media bs, no lies, and just two car guys making a fair, and true argument for each car. Some might find this as unfair, but the Veloster N has very few, to none, competitors out there. The RS has some strong points, and also weak points, such as the interior, the technology inside etc. For anyone looking to purchase one, this is the only way to compare them especially base price and what you get. And please lets not forget, both these brands race in WRC. I hope you enjoy the video and please do not forget to subscribe.

Great video. However, you need to redo this video in the summertime, and take both cars into some twisty back roads. It is there where they both show just how good drivers cars should behave. I don't get the Veloster N in my country but I am considering both the RS and the i30N for my next car.

I’ve noticed that Hyundai fans get instantly butthurt whenever anyone says something remotely negative about their brand. It’s like they don’t see any flaws in a Hyundai, which is ironic to me, considering how new they are to making performance vehicles, or any decent vehicle for that matter.

Nice side by side comparison. Subbing. I’m a Hyundai fanboy. Sold them for 5 years after selling luxury brands from1999 to 2010. Then Luxury sales went to n the shitter and I switched to Hyundai. My store operated like a luxury store so it was a good match for my selling style. Retired from car sales in 2015 and bought my wife an Elantra Limited. Been very happy with it. Never has had to go back for any problems. 50 K miles and going strong. All I have done is replace 4 tires main Battery and front break pads!!! Thinking about getting me a new car this summer. These two aren’t even comparable 🤷🏿‍♂️ I think the n is a direct competitor with the mazdaspeed 3 , gti golf R, and focus st , the rs is in a different category. This is all a personal opinion. But with the N make 275 crank with the sports package your looking at about 230whp maybe a little more . When the Mazda speed 3 has 262 crank and about 225whp more or less. Same with the st being 245 crank and about 215 whp more or less. I don’t remember what the golf r has but I know the wheel horse power would fall into the 240-250whp range . The RS being 350 crank and about 285-295 whp is in a different catergory to me. But this is just my opinion

I feel picking on a car for not having factory navigation when it supports both Apple and Android integration is just silly. Google maps is far superior due to instant updates over any factory nav. @@SamCarLegion I don't understand your question and how it applies to my statement. The review listed lack of navigation as a con on what is one of the least expensive cars in its segment. Hyundai never claimed it had factory nav, and it in fact has something far superior, Apple car play and Android auto. You can choose from any navigation app you like, and it'll work beautifully. It'll also get updated automatically every time your phone updates, respond to traffic changes immediately, etc.

It is a con, when I drive to the US I need a navigation system, Canadians pay a lot for roaming so most people can't afford it. Now they are forced to buy one. I took it to the dealership 5-6 times and they would work on things and then it would come back with the same issue and they would act as though they fixed it. My friends and I eventually just laughed about it. The two other places I took the car wanted to load it up with aftermarket parts to resolve the issues but that also didn't work. I called it a day on that car. The engine itself was A++ but the rest of it left a lot to be desired. I hope yours stays solid my friend. No harm meant with my statement either. @@headcoatee Golf R is cheaper than the RS and it's AWD. Not to mention it's much more reliable than a stinking Ford. You probably don't know this but the RS is riddled with engine failure. It's gotten so bad that they decided to discontinue production. Hence, the cost of ownership is very high with an RS. The Veloster N is bang for your buck in comparison.

We know RS is a fail as a high mileage daily driver, will be interesting to see how well Veloster N packs on the mileage. I suspect this car is over engineered and given the light weight, it should age well.

How did you come up with that?
@npaul4171
@npaul4171 5 жыл бұрын
While still relatively early to say, preliminary reports from i30 N owners suggests that the Veloster N will be quite a robust car, stock or chipped. For that matter, the test units of Veloster N's being tracked to absolute piss suggests this car was built specifically for amateur track usage, and Hyundai seems willing to warranty the car in this circumstance. From a daily driving perspective, provided the owner understands basic things (such as not lugging turbo cars, not spooling until the oil reaches operating temp, periodically checking engine oil, running maintenance cycles appropriate to driving habits, etc.), I am personally willing to bet this will be an extremely reliable daily driver even if driven hard and tracked on a regular basis.

@npaul4171

@@SamCarLegion Hence why I said "suggests" and "willing to bet"...i.e., most of it is based on first-hand accounts of i30N (and IIRC base Stinger?) owners and during a relatively short period of time. If we want to get really technical, we probably will never know exact failure rates (e.g., for example, half a decade since the FA20F's release there is still debate regarding the frequency of EJ257 vs. FA20F failure rates, and debate regarding the exact rate of EJ257 failures has been ongoing for well over a decade without hard data.) Hyundai also has a favorable advantage in the sense that most of their recent cars tend to fare well on the reliability side (although not-so-much the resale side, which is certainly a factor for prospective owners to consider as well - cars like the RS, Type R, and STI will likely hold their value dramatically better than the N.)

It is unfair...MSRP Veloster N is 28.9k US. With 275 HP to the front wheels. Focus RS is ~34.9k. With 350 HP AWD. The Veloster N is priced and engineered to compete against cars like the Focus ST and the GTI. I really hate videos like these that pit slower cars against cars that are not only more expensive but are faster in every way ... What's next? Fiesta ST VS. a SS 2019 Camaro? You guys are a bunch of clowns.

@@Beanjuicethe veloster n is the top of the line for the Hyundai hatchbacks - Gti isnt the top of the line for VW so it makes no sense to compare to that. So technicaly isnt a full comparison, otherwise you would have a seen me alone with two cars.

Both of these cars have the faux engine audio, although it seems like many RS owners are quick to disable it (and I wonder if this may soon hold true with the N as well, especially as aftermarket exhausts/downpipes become more common.) My STI has a mechanical amplification system that uses a sound generator tube to pump noise into the cabin and it definitely causes the driver to shift earlier when compared to the same car with this amplification feature disabled. Ironically, the exhaust notes of all three of these cars sound quite pleasing on their own, so I've always wondered why Makers chose to go in this direction as opposed to using a slightly louder exhaust without augmentation as such?
