Purchased a Hybrid Rav XSE and have had it for a few months. No regrets as far as performance, it's amazing. Had heard that the passenger seat was uncomfortable so that was a concern but it's fine, and i'm picky about comfort! Saving money on gas and less trips to fill it!

I am cheap so I would buy the bare bones LE Hybrid if I was shopping today. From everything I have heard the regular RAV4 has almost been made redundant by the new Hybrid. Next year they will be building RAV4 Hybrids in Kentucky to keep up with demand.

I suggest everyone rent the new Rav4 for a few days before commenting. After test driving a few at various dealers I was ready to buy. I found a Toyota dealer that was part of Toyota Rents. They had a new 2019 Rav4 LE available so I rented it for three days. I put 600 miles on it. I was able to easily achieve 33 to 36 mpg but drives between Sacramento and Reno on hwy 80 were so punishing that I could not wait to return it to dealer. The road noise was deafening from the concrete road, the slightest push on the gas caused a downshift that made the engine roar so loudly that you instinctively took your foot off the gas and the ride quality was beyond abusive, constantly bouncing and jerking us around the cabin. It made the ride home, driving the same road, in my 2005 Highlander a pleasure.
@omelborpon3159
@omelborpon3159 5 жыл бұрын
Jim Heck, that is useful input. Consumer Reports agrees with you that the ride and engine noise have deteriorated from the previous generation. After two or three years on the new TNGA platform on the RAV4, Toyota will solve some of the problems. (And please, Toyota, give us some really good driver and front passenger seats.) Your suggestion to rent before you buy is always a great idea when contemplating the purchase of any new vehicle, especially one you intend to keep for a while.

Jim, that's very useful info and good idea to rent! I also drive to Reno to ski a lot, so good applicable info as my 07 Acura MDX is great, but looking at better gaz mileage but not if punishing ride and loud... guessing the ybrid might behave quite differently though (quieter, lot more torq, no downshifting).

I own both. The Rav is best in town, while I like the Rogue on the highway. The Rav's more maneuverable and the cockpit ergonomics are superior. The significantly larger Rogue is more comfortable, quieter and has more room. Of particular note, the Rogue's front passenger seat is world's better than the Rav's.

In my country, since 2014, The Rav4 has always been offered with a CVT instead of an automatic. I still choose the Rav4 over the other crossovers, cause Toyota designed the CVT themselves. Brands like Nissan, Subaru etc use Jatco CVTs which we all know suck. In fact, there isnt a case of failed CVT in a Rav4 in my country.

I like the styling and prefer the 2019 Nissan Rogue SL fully loaded. My grandma got a 3 year 36,000 mile lease on her gunmetal gray 2019 Nissan Rogue SL with premium package. 34,620$ SUV. It’s a nice SUV with the panoramic sunroof, leather interior, heated seats, heated steering wheel, Nissan pro pilot assist with every single safety feature. Bose audio system with HD radio and Sirius XM, and has apple car play. Push to start, memory seats, carbon fiber door inserts, piano black interior pieces, garage home link with auto dim mirror, 360 around view monitor back up camera with rear sensors, rear cross traffic alert and automatic emergency braking. Has steering assist, blindspot monitoring, you name it.. this Rogue has all the sweet safety features and it’s cheaper than the RAV4. IMO you get more bang for the buck getting an SL Rogue than a XSE or XLE rav4 that can cost more than 40,000$. Not to mention the Rogue has the xenon headlights with fog lights, 19 inch alloy wheels, also has tinted windows, remote start, smart entry, and rear automatic foot activated power tailgate.

I drove the Rogue for a week as rental and it was okay but only got 27 mpg out of it and I HATED that the horn honks every time i lock it. I do think the Rav4 is overpriced compared to competition and much less wiggle room for out the door bargaining with dealers, I love the car so was willing to pay a little more than the competition.

With that kind of gas mileage, you will recoup the money you overspent very fast. Here in Canada, gas is 1.27$ a liter. Having a car that consumes 35-40% less fuel is a no brainer.

"Last(ing) longer" may not be the highest priority for everyone. The average new car buyer keeps a vehicle for seven years. While it may offend one's Puritan sensibilities that people purchase automobiles without considering how well it will hold up after a decade or more of ownership, doing the math doesn't necessarily suggest that long term durability is economically the best choice.

I debated between buying a Rava4 and Nissan Rogue. I like the shape of the Toyota rava4 however I bought a Nissan Rogue 2019 (non-hybrid). It came with a lifetime Powertrain warranty. So even if the transmission fails, it won’t cost anything. And the Rogue was way cheaper than the Rava 4 2019. There was a promotion, and for just 31k TAX INCLUDED, I was able to get the top of line Nissan Rogue with all the options. For the rava4, in order to get the same options than the Nissan Rogue, it would have cost me at least 37K NOT TAX INCLUDED. And at the time I bought my Nissan Rogue, the rava4 2019 didn’t even support android phone, only iPhone. And I love the Nissan Rogue trunk cargo divider utility. It allows you to configure your cargo space in function of your need

I had the opportunity to drive the top trim rogue and its not even a close race, the rogue has poor road visibilty, uncomfortable to drive surprisingly although new, its beginning to have issues already, the back door will not open automatically and has to be operated from outside just after 1.5 yrs old. The interior surprisingly is old even for top trim. The only difference is that, you get a remote start in the rogue in the top trim.

Had a rogue for a week and I kinda or I didn't like it. The Pros, its big, and comfy but way too underpowered. And I've been in the RAV hybrid, power was OK, it wasn't fast, sureb it could use a lil bit more power, but it is adequate, and I quite Like the truck stance it has, and I don't see any resmblace with a Cherokee, maybe in the back. And I've been seeing a ton of them here in Texas. So I pick the RAV.

If it were "a few bucks more," that would be true. But it may well be as much as $6000 or more comparing MSRP's of top trims of comparably equipped non-hybrid models. And that doesn't take account of the greater likelihood of discounts on the Rogue.
@TrubaMoya
@TrubaMoya 5 жыл бұрын
@@stephenhendricks103 For 2019 it's $800 difference between rav4 non hybrid and hybrid for some trims, for top trim it was under 2k. This will pay off very quickly. But the benefit isn't just with gas savings, it's better acceleration and quietness is what you get with hybrid.

I think the Nissan Rogue (and Nissan's in general) rate 7/10 in every competitive stat while other competitors from Japan and Korea are 9/10 or 10/10. So the Rogue is "oh-kay" but always "not as good" as competitor-X. The difference comes when you actually visit the Nissan dealer. When you can drive home with a nice Rogue for $5,000 less (15-20% less) than a similar Toyota (or Honda or...), many choose to live with the just "oh-kay" since nothing is really a deal-breaker, even if everything is not as good as the competition.

@legambaz
@legambaz 4 жыл бұрын
How do they drive though? These 2 SUVs are good for pure utility, and not something I would fall in love. They are not good looking in anyway, but at least the Rogue doesn't have that stupid 2nd chin of the Rav4 and the anemic looking butt. Agree the Rav4 should be more reliable as seen in all Toyotas. But I believe the Rogue may be nicer to be in as the last gen felt like a real SUV riding inside while all other Asian SUV felt like they're trying to make the car look tall while the passengers are really sitting low inside guess to preserve whatever handling ability they may come with. On the other hand, since these are purely for utility, reliability should come in very high here. The Rogue is rated as one of the most unreliable SUVs in America recently by Scotty. They have also killed off the hybrid version. I would be very interested to see Alex comparing all the Asian SUVs of the same range in 1 video. I believe that would give me a really good idea how they really perform in all areas.

Alex: I saw something on another channel regarding the tendency of CVT's to freewheel in downhill situations, and that they are not good choices for people who live in or near mountainous terrain because when it comes to modulating downhill speed, the vehicle is overly dependent on the brakes. Is this correct?
@MagnesiumPC
@MagnesiumPC 5 жыл бұрын
Some CVTs have these issues (particularly the ones from JATCO). Aisin has actually been developing CVTs that have some actual physical gears for low range and then switch for higher efficiency at high speeds. CVTs and Automatics don't behave the same way in terms of shifting (obviously) through the band, so its really just dependant on the CVT and manufacturer.
