I have a 2020 Longhorn with 55000 miles making the annoying whining noise. I took it to the dealer today, and they said the MGU needs replaced. I'm betting it's the tensioner. Fortunately, I purchased a service contract for my Ohio/Canadian truck with a voided Canadian manufactuer warranty. This video is very helpful for changing the MGU or the hydraulic tensioner. Thankyou for posting this.

Glad it helped. Mine ended up being the lower tensioner. Thanks for checking out our channel and good luck on your noise fix. :)

Can you remove the computer and transfer it to a new alternator, or you need the whole piece together ?
@EverythingStartsSomewhere10 күн бұрын
I’m not sure if the computer is some how linked to the alternator or not. If you find the answer, please post here and it may help someone else. Thanks for checking out our channel :)

what issue were you having?
@EverythingStartsSomewhere10 ай бұрын
I had a whining noise that got louder with increased RPMs. It turned out to be the lower pulley. Even though the pulley would spin freely and not make any noise when I had the pulley removed. But once the pulley had tension on it the whining noise returned. I replaced the lower pulley and the noise went away. Thanks for checking out our channel and good luck in your troubleshooting.

I am sure this is not a plug and play this will have to be set up with a advanced scan tool.

I only had the new one installed for a few hours and realized the noise was not from the alternator, so I took it back out. I’m sure there will need to be some computer setup needed. Thanks for checking out the channel. :)

Hen man where did you get the alternator? I can’t find it on the regular auto parts store and how do you know if the alternator is bad or is a computer issue
@EverythingStartsSomewhere5 күн бұрын
Thanks for checking out our channel. Check the description for this video. It has that information. Mine was a noise issue so I k ew it was not the computer.
@JoseGarcia-gn4ng5 күн бұрын
@ the alternator is expensive that is why l ask how to be sure that is what it is , l tested with the multimeter and that thing beeps once and a red light comes on and 0 readings show, l also use the magnetic tactic where you put a metal in front of the pulley and no magnetic force is feeling , l try this with my other pick up and I can feel the magnetic force pulling the screw driver

That's not an alternator, it's an electric motor. There is no alternator on the etorque.
@EverythingStartsSomewhere10 күн бұрын
You are correct, but if I name the video Ram 1500 electric motor removal, people will not find this video. For the past 12 months “Ram 1500 Electric Motor” was searched for 5 times, but “Ram 1500 Alternator” was searched for 3779 times. Thanks for checking out our channel :)

Did you use the old computer? Or did you get an alt with a new computer?
@EverythingStartsSomewhere2 ай бұрын
I put the new alternator on and started it up and still had the same noise. So I put my old alternator back on and eventually found the noice was from the lower pulley. So ended up with the same old alternator.

How did u change the belt?
@EverythingStartsSomewhere2 ай бұрын
It is in the video and it was a breaker bar on the bottom and the ratchet on the top. Then climbed on the motor and used my foot on the breaker bar and one hand on the ratchet and keep pressure on both and use the free hand to slide the belt off. :)
@rjs49ers4 ай бұрын
There is an easier way to remove the belt so you don't hurt yourself, release tension on regular tensioner then use a 5/32 Allen or drill bit thatll fit behind the tensioner via small hole that will hold the tensioner locked in place. Once that's in place and locked go back and with a ratchet and breaker bar release tension on 2nd tensioner, you will see the square slot where you insert the ratchet head. OH BEFORE THIS 2ND STEP, remove that middle piece he shows, uses 2 screws once removed you can do the 2nd step or 2nd tensioner release.

Thanks for the great information. I figured there was some other way to get the belt off but did not see the location for the allen wrench. Thanks for checking out our channel. :)

Do you have to reflash the alternator (computer) ?

Sorry, not sure as the alternator was not what was making the noise so I pulled the new one out and put my original one back in. Good luck with your Ram and thanks for checking out our channel.

Is there anyway anyone can help me, I have this exact same truck with that alternator, I have a wire harness that’s broken on the right side fender rail and goes down to a connector, bought the pig tail off eBay but only has ten wires and mine has 12. Need to know where to put the other two wires.
@EverythingStartsSomewhere6 ай бұрын
Thanks for checking out the channel, but I did not have to do any wiring on mine. Hopefully you will find a wiring diagram for it. Good luck.

Just replaced the etorque alternator but its not charging and it said stop/start unavailable. Did you run into that?
@EverythingStartsSomewhere9 ай бұрын
Sorry, I only had the new alternator installed for a few minutes. Since my issue was a whining noise as soon as I started my truck and still heard the same noise I shut it off and put my original alternator back on. When I did start it up with the new alternator I did see the same things on my dash though, but they went away when I put my old alternator back in. Good luck to you and thanks for checking out our channel. :)

Generator not alternator
@EverythingStartsSomewhere6 ай бұрын
Thanks for checking out our channel. And you are correct, but the search term Ram 1500 Generator receives about 1% of searches compared to Ram 1500 Alternator. Maybe I should add a tag for generator to cover anyone searching for that term. :)
