1. Remove fluid reservoir cap.
2. Remove inside filter using strong tweezers, needle nose pliers or a curved pick.
3. Using a large automotive syringe or suction pump remove as much of the old fluid from the reservoir (focus on sucking the dark colored dirt and grime debris from the bottom edges where they might be lodged).
4. Pour new synthetic DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid (Do not use anything that was opened more than a couple days prior!) A pint (16 fl. oz.) bottle was enough, I used almost the entire bottle (about 1 fl. oz. was left afterward).
5. Close the reservoir cap.
6. Remove the airbox completely to allow easy and direct access to the bleed valve.
7. Remove the rubber cap from the bleed valve nipple.
Note1: I would advice spraying a little brake cleaner or Simple Green to clean up the nipple and around the valve (if dirty).
Tip: If the bleed valve is not visible due to shifting joint covering it, you can simply push it towards the engine.
7. Attach one end of a clear 3/16" tubing (about 2'-3' in length), feed the other end thru the cap of whatever you are going to use to contain the old, dirty fluid in.
Note: Make sure the old fluid you sucked out from the reservoir in step-3 is in this bottle and feed the clear tubing end all the way thru the bottle's cap to the bottom of the bottle so the end is fully submerged in the fluid.
8. If you are doing this alone, using a piece of stick or tool that is about 2' (give or take a few inches) long, brace one end to the front of the driver seat while the other end keeps the clutch pedal pressed down about 80%-90%. If you have something a few inches longer or shorter, you should still be able to use it by moving the seat forward or back.
9. Using a 8mm wrench open (counter-clockwise) the bleed nut by turning only about 1/4 turn and then quickly close it by turning it back.
Note: if opened enough, you should hear a quick "whoosh" where the old fluid is pushed out and ultimately into the collection bottle.
10. Go back inside and the clutch pedal is more than likely sitting at the bottom. Pull the pedal up by hand and it should eventually bounce back to its normal position with tension.
11. Repeat steps 8 thru 10 until dirty old fluid is no longer coming out. Between each cycle, remember to check the fluid level in the reservoir.
Note: If you removed almost all of the old fluid from the reservoir and replaced it with new fluid by filling it all the way to the max line (or a tad above it), you should be able to get all of the old fluid out in about 4 to 5 cycles.
Important Note: Keep an eye on the reservoir and top it off all the way to the max line without exceeding it. The fluid level can be anywhere between Min and Max levels but should not be less than halfway between Min and Max levels. Also keep an eye on the bottle where the old fluid is being dumped to ensure it doesn't get full and spill out.
Once done, put everything back together and then go for a ride!
