Such a beautiful thing. Upgraded from Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 twin and the difference just blows me away!! The Scrambler is just incredible in fifth gear going 130kmph humming away at 3.5k rpm

This bike is very impressive. Like you, I am a fan of torque. One thing puts me off: the tubed tyres. I suppose something could be done to make punctures less likely. This engine is big enough for Thailand. Thanks for illustrating the engine's flexibility.

Its so true : Triumph make great bikes but they are to much expensive! If they wasn’t so much expensive: a Tiger 800 XRX would be first on my list to upgrade my CB500X. So i wouldnt buy a Triumph.

Hopefully you will get a ride on the 650 Royal Enfield soon Mark. I think we are only a week or two off getting them in Australia. I can't think of a better old school type bike for a Sunday ride and at a price that's within the reach of most. A lot of retro bikes are just too damn expensive. I totally get these bikes too. In fact I’ve just test ridden and bought one to fit nicely between my ZZR1400 and FE570 (a real PITA on the road). An off road mode to disable ABS I can understand for those wanting to leave the tarmac but traction control and a rain mode with a whopping 65bhp on tap? The ZZR with almost 140bhp more maybe but it’s just a gimmick/selling point on bikes like this IMO.

Got myself the new Sandstorm edition recently. It is heaps of fun. The suspension is pretty much perfect for our shabby British roads. It's all day comfortable and the exhaust is probably the best sounding of the modern classics. Looks-wise I think it epitomises Triumph cool. It's one of the lowest power bikes I've had for a long time, but it really is all about the torque. This thing can rip along. The handling is surprisingly nimble for what is quite a heavy bike. If I was going to change one thing it would be to add another 2 or 3 teeth to the rear sprocket. It would make 30mph in 2nd gear less 'chuggy', and make better use of the long gears altogether.

Anthony Micci Jr honestly not that great during my first experience. It was raining and 37F outside though! It’s the middle of winter where I live so only one highway ride thus far. I was getting blown all over the road, but I will say the bike has plenty of power all around.

How is the heat dissipation of the bike? Didn’t you feel the heat from exhausts?

Hi ashish, I thought id feel the heat from the exhausts,but no i didnt feel any,maybe you would notice it in hotter countries , ?im sure triumph have designed it to be ok all the best mark

Thanks Mark for you prompt reply. I thought likewise that in Indian summers heating would be an issue. However, bigger issue is the pricing here, which is more than £11000. Moreover, Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 being a hit, not many units of scrambler are being sold in India. That said, it’s a great bike. Cheers!

Strange review .. "great for cruising" " your not going to get speeding tickets " … no, unless you open it up !! these things have loads of go and can keep up with most bikes on most roads if ridden with a bit of commitment !! They are made for blasting around on not cruising .

This Bike is very interesting but it got a huge turn off (con) : it can only have one side case! This bike cannot have a side case on the right side, on the Exhaust side 👎🏼 Big issue for someone who want to travel!

These oldie Triumph bikes don't do anything for me. I think it looks fugly with that exhaust. It must be pretty easy to burn yourself! And it's probably pretty useless off road as a scrambler bike compared to say a KTM EXC500 or 300. Yesterday's Kwaker 900RS, a good retro bike brought up to modern standards, looked pretty good, but Triumph continually bringing out these old timer stuck in the long distant past bikes seem to have lost their way. They do it just because there is a market for it, plenty of old timers with cash. These bikes don't bring anything more to motorcycle design. Triumph should be spending their time and money innovating, producing better bikes such as a new Daytona. Not criticising Mark or his review, usual informative opinions, just this bike and Triumph. If I were to ride it which I wouldn't, it would get a huge thumbs down which is probably why I wouldn't ride it. Just not exciting, too slow and frankly boring.

@@markpulling12 Indeed! I so hope Triumph bring out a new Daytona. I would buy one. I think they were one of the prettiest sports bikes ever up there with the 899 and 1299 Panigales and of course they handle extremely well the old 675R did, and they are British! Btw I have a Sprint ST1050 so am not anti Triumph. I just get so annoyed when they keep reincarnating these stuck in the past not particularly good or exciting old timer bikes which should frankly remain in the past. I want them to produce new innovative exciting bikes. Thanks for replying and posting.

Alex, I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives that appeal to you, but don't bash the retro line just because you don't like it. These models appeal mainly to young riders, not old timers. And they're not that expensive either. Each bike fits a purpose (as you mentioned the EXC500 for example) and the purpose of the Modern Classic line is to give you an enjoyable bike that looks retro but packs modern technology, rides smoothly and is a pleasure to look at. I have a 2017 Street Scrambler and have yet to find someone that tries it and doesn't leave with a big smile on his/her face. 22.000km later and still rides beautifully, like brand new. Actually better than band new, since the engine had its break-in period. I don't expect you to try one, but respect those who love them. Cheers!

@@FlorinNitulescu_1 I can't think of any reason or purpose to buy this or any similar retro "scrambler" road bike. Technology and bikes have moved on. A bike like the BMW RNineT would be better. I just don't like that exhaust on this Triumph. Bikes like the Kawasaki Z900RS which Mark reviewed a few days ago were good bikes back in their day so I understand their modernisation even if they are not really my thing. But if I did want a proper scrambler I would buy a proper off road enduro, dirt bike of the type I already mention. Lets agree to disagree. These types of bike are not for me. I can't see the point in them, but nevertheless enjoy yours. Safe riding.
