I want to clarify... I’m American and like Tesla.. but I’m tired of people always commenting: “oh, you should just get a Tesla because blah blah blah..” as though it’s the perfect choice for all drivers. Some people live far away from city centers, don’t have proper charging infrastructure to justify an EV, and want to preserve battery power for city driving to cut noise and emissions for inner-city residents. Tesla’s are nice, but not for everyone.. Rant over.🙄🤦‍♂️

@@TomHiel funny, we said the same thing back when we had the porsche, this was a nightmare to maintain. perasonally i wouldnt be buying an SUV anyway as I think they're pretty pointless, but yeah, i get your point, early Modedl Xs (and even some current ones) weren't the best for reliability, esp. those falcon wing doors.

Domenico Lamberti totally right. SUV’s are pointless. Especially when everybody drives one, there is no advantage in safety. And the always end up on their roof when they crash. About Tesla, I can write a book about that brand.... up to six months waiting for parts. And you need a lot of them because the quality is very poor.

Just had this car for the past fortnight after two 640ds, previous generation 7 series and previous S class. I’m staggered at how beautifully it drives; it’s hugely comfortable, the tech is mind boggling, it looks good with the 20’’ alloys and it’s fantastically well put together and understated. If you haven’t driven one, you will not know how good this car is. My only criticisms are that the electric range of the hybrid is poor with some reviewers stating it’s upto 36 miles; it’s more like 19-23 miles on a full charge and the interior with the heating switchgear looks a little dated when pitched against the S class and the A8. Otherwise, it’s one heck of a car.

Dunno why we can call it a “plug in hybrid” with a straight face if it doesn’t cover an average driving commute on one charge. If it can’t do 50-60 miles, it’s not worthy of that status, not really. To me, it makes most sense to have a PHEV if you can do all your normal driving (to work, to the shops, to your regular social activities, etc.) on electric power and only use the gas when you’re taking a longer trip, maybe into your nearby city or to a far-away shopping mall or, obviously, on a road trip. I would tend to agree that the new Model S Long Range is a much better buy than this, but that’s only because I can get over the mediocre interior for the sake of fully electric power. If I couldn’t, I’d frankly go for the less ugly and more interesting Lexus LS.

JS1 I dunno. I live outside Columbus, OH, which is a very drivable city. I feel like I’d certainly put up with some minor compromises for that kind of range out of a PHEV. Some would certainly make the argument that at that point BMW should just have made an EV, which I won’t deny, honestly.

I just can't grasp all the expense and effort that went into this powertrain for a 12kwh battery with 16 mile range. That equals maybe 5 miles of spirited sprints. Give me the M motor please until you put a real battery in the car.
